Super Junior is a family and I know this when...
When the hyungs walked Ryeowook to the bus stop because there were âscary peopleâ out there. They styled his hair and guarded him from strangers until he got onto the bus safely. And Kangin piggybacked him to school simply because the younger one was tired out from practice.
When Ryeowook and Donghae made sure the fruits were cut and peeled for their hyungs. Heechul said heâs not had to peel an orange for years now because there will be containers of fruits in the fridge with his name on it.
When Donghae was beaten up, both Leeteuk and Yesung felt incredibly apologetic that they werenât able to protect him. They tried to ease the pain by rubbing boiled eggs on his bruises and wounds.
When both Eunhyuk and Donghae were hungry in the middle of the night, Leeteuk brought them out to eat. Having only 5000 won (Around 5 USD), he could only afford to treat both of them and not himself, even though he hasnât eaten either. He even ushered them out after eating because the boys had ordered drinks and unknowingly so, Leeteuk didnât have enough money and thus had to ask the boss if they could have the drinks for free.Â
When Siwon realized that the boys used his facial / beauty products he made sure to buy them in a bigger size because he loves it when the members used them secretly.
When Donghae was still in highschool, it was Leeteuk who drove him to school everyday, whilst Heechul made omelettes for him in the mornings when during his examination period.
When Kyuhyun received the worst injuries during the accident, Leeteuk & Eunhyuk, who were also in the accident cried over Kyuhyun as they tried to keep him conscious. And when he came back from the hospital two months later, Siwon used to cry quietly whenever Kyuhyun changed because he could see the scars. All the boys were really shaken by the accident as Kyuhyun was in an extremely serious condition and they realized they almost lost him.
When Leeteuk insists on monitoring all the boysâ individual activities, even though it meant that he has to stay up the entire night, he would do so. The next morning, he would call them individually and tell them how they did.Â
When Donghaeâs father passed away, the boys called Donghae immediately and offered their condolences, comforting him and each of them left for Mokpo (his hometown in Jeollanam) for the funeral as soon as they could get away from their individual schedules.
When Henry once said in an interview that the biggest difference working solo and working together with the boys is the loneliness. When heâs on his solo activities overseas, heâs always lonely when he gets back to his hotel room. He said that really missed the boys and their chaos for thereâs never a single moment of peace as theyâre all noisy together.Â
When Shindong broke down on broadcast, admitting that he was afraid that fans might be embarrassed to like Super Junior because of his presence, the boys immediately jumped in to console him and said they canât imagine a Super Junior without his presence, talent, dedication and sacrifice. Ryeowook also mentioned that he was apologetic that it doesnât translate on broadcast and that theyâre always grateful for him. Eunhyuk said that theyâre worried about the emptiness left behind while Shindong serves in the army.
When Hankyung was still around, he got bullied once by people outside their dorm, who scolded him in Mandarin. Heechul was extremely angry and went outside to seek revenge for Hankyung. He later said âHankyung is living in a foreign country alone. And heâs such a nice friend too. It made me so angry, because they did that just because heâs a foreigner.â
When Leeteukâs father and grandparents passed away, the boys dropped everything and their current schedules to be with their leader. The day of the funeral, both Shindong and Ryeowook passed on their radio responsibilities to others to be by his side. At the time Ryeowook received the news, he was due to be on Sukira and he quietly shared with the listeners and asked for their understanding, relaying that he had to rely more on BTOBâs Minhyuk to direct the show. For the rest of the broadcast, he looked pained and his voice was strained from the news.
When Zhou Mi and Henry were added to SJM, all the 6 boys slept together in one room, like they were Kindergarten children, to get to know one another. He said that in the dorms, Ryeowook always cooked for all of them and they relied heavily on one another for support, just like a family.
Theyâre not just colleagues / coworkers. Their bond extends beyond that. These boys have spent at least a span of a decade or more with one another, living together, playing together, working together. Their families have businesses together. Theyâve been through the worst and best of times, weathered major storms and still came out strong, as Hallyu Kings. Theyâve become a family and I believe and pray that nothing will change that. If anything, I hope theyâll continue to walk down the road together, stronger than ever. And I believe that true fans will see them through whatever comes.
