Halloween is so utterly distinct from every other holiday because it’s literally just about being weird and spooky and having fun. There’s horror movies on tv constantly and the stores are packed with decorations of spiderwebs and fake blood and you can dress as some rotting blood-splattered ghoul and that will be seen as awesome. Baking shows feature challenges where you compete to make the most disturbing and terrifying creations possible. Even commercials and ads often feature horror tropes and monsters. You can celebrate however you want, too; there’s no requirement for family gatherings or specific foods you have to eat or a certain way you’re expected to feel. The world just becomes a little strange and creepy for a month and then goes back to Family-Friendly Happy Times. It’s like Socially Mandated Goth Month and it makes me feel at home
Weirdest experience I ever had with this is with a customer at work.
It’s not an uncommon occurrence for men in their 40s and 50s to refer to their wives as “old bags”, so whenever I do the whole “Would you like a bag” spiel, there’s a 50/50 chance they will point to their wife and say “No thanks I have one right here” or say “Nah I left her at home” Or something else awful and then wink at me and call me darling or sweetheart and just make me want to be smited by god right in that second.
However there was one customer that came in and did this whole song and dance. Not out of the ordinary. What was, however, was how he then followed it up by going “I’m kidding, I’m divorced ha ha.” Then, his face drops and he turns to his friend with a look of absolute horror and goes “Wait, that’s probably why. Do you think that’s why she left me Andy? Because I said things like that?” And then proceeded to look like he was re-evaluating his whole life as his friend led him out of the store.
TL; DR = Boomers are weird and this one was given a glimpse behind the veil of self awareness in a Tesco Extra

same concept: Akatsuki are supernaturals. but they aren't all vampires in that one :3c and Reader is working at a club/bar that they own. i need to get my butt back to writing it 100%
i'm screamin tho that ppl still like to read NYAVS. i read through it a couple years back and tbh? it holds up pretty well! i wouldn't mind eventually going back and rewriting the chapters and actually giving the story some plot and whatnot, but i have like three fics that i'm trying to work on rn (including Dead Until Dawn) plus a oneshot that i've been trying to write for over a year oopsie poopsie~

as we know the higher up you are the closer you are to god. this means when clouds form in the sky they actually develop sentience and immediately start cannibalising each other to get more divine power. when a cloud is strong enough it does gain psychoelectric abilities but it also gets too heavy and begins to die, blaming the ground for ripping it from the heavens and attacking with its thunder on the way down. nevertheless its pieces descend like whale fall spreading the last of its divine light into the earth

Y/n has moved back to her hometown and is living with her brother after a terrible breakup with a guy who is five hundred different Red Flags. You get a job at a local convenience store and work the graveyard shift because you just need something to make you money to get back on your feet.
Around 4/5am one morning a man comes in that you don't pay much attention to. He's about your age, wearing a hoodie and sweats, and tapping away on his phone. You just keep doing what you're doing and wait to see if he actually buys anything.
When he comes up to the counter, he still doesn't look up at you, playing something on his phone. Whatever. You scan his stuff and say what he owes.
That's when he pauses. He looks up from his phone with a small look of surprise that turns into a creepy little smile when he takes you in.
For a moment he doesn't do anything and you're just like, "Sir? Cash or card?"
"Right," he says slowly as he takes out his wallet and taps the card to the reader.
No other words are exchanged and you watch him leave, both confused as fuck and HELLA creeped out.
You have no idea who that man was, but he never forgot about you.
You, the sweet little girl a year younger than him in high school who tried to reach out to him when he was sitting by himself. You, who were the first to show him some semblance of kindness in the hell of that institution.
You, who he had no idea how to react to. No one was nice to him, not guys, never girls. Except Toga, but that didn't count.
He wanted more of it. He wanted you to look at him and notice him and talk to him more. You were just so not like him, so nice, so sweet, so fragile.
He wanted to break you.
If anyone asked him if he bullied you in high school, he'd say no, of course not. That's not what that was, but there's a reason you left the city. There's a reason that you moved across the country and started new. You didn't want to by anywhere near him -- especially because you didn't know how to deal with your own warring feelings toward the man that had terrorized you for four goddamn years.
Whenever you thought about him, you knew that you hated him. You knew you were scared of him.
So why did you always get butterflies in your stomach every time he looked in your direction back then?
Fear, you told yourself. It had to be fear. Terror of that little stick of a man with unkempt blue hair and red eyes that you still saw in the corner of your eye sometimes.
A man that looked nothing like the one that smiled at you that night. No, he was taller, bulkier. His hair was long, white. It couldn't be the same loser incel that you knew, right?

Right?
You try to reason with yourself, but more often than not, you find that those red eyes in the corner of your vision aren't just a trick of your mind when you head home from your shifts.
One thing I appreciate about my cat son is that if he, who knows how it feels to be trapped in a room, so much as begins to suspect that I, his father, am trapped in a room, then he will immediately do everything in his meager power to rescue me
