The family and I took a hike up to an old extinct volcano.  We didn’t make it all the way to the top unfortunately, but my husband and son had a great time looking for lizards and horny toads.

I really did want to hike to the top and I felt like I could do it.  We got about half way before turning back.   I felt fine at the time, however, I forget that I am 5000 feet above what I’m used to and the climb up to the top of the volcano added another 1000 feet.

I believe I should start carrying my mace as there are wild animals out here.  I did have to worry about mountain lions and bears in California, but there’s usually so many people out that I’m sure most the wild animals are away from the trails.   Here it seems a bit more remote and while I don’t have to worry about bears, I do have to worry about javelina’s.

On the way back down I had a butterfly pose for me and saw a gigantic grasshopper.  I’ve never seen one that size.

On the short drive home, I started to get a massive headache and extreme exhaustion.  Yep, I did too much too soon.  I really think I should be done acclimating by now, we have been here 3 weeks!   However, my body is telling me I need to slow down.   Okay, Okay, I will listen… for a bit anyway.

Moving Time

I have been back in California for about 6 years now.   This past 6 years has been full of life lessons and growth.    I do really love it here for it’s geographical location.  The ocean is only 30 minutes, lots of hiking spots and the weather is fucking awesome.  However, it’s extremely expensive to live here and honestly California isn’t what I remeber it to be.  California has changed.   Maybe…

Sometimes I when I have bouts of depression I write poems.  I wrote these a couple months ago and decided to attach it to my photo’s.

Before I share, today I got to really thinking about my own creativity and how I wish I could be more creative but I struggle a lot with taking what I picture in my head and expressing it outward for all to see.   I try and usually get a muddled version or sometimes even nothing like I envision in my head.   Which is partly why I enjoy photography so much.  I am able to take how I feel about an outward scene and create a version that’s to my liking whether I keep it true to form or edit for a more fantastical show.  My writing is usually dark and short due to only being able to tap into it when I’m feeling at my lowest.

So, without any further ado…..  Enjoy!

Okay, so my page states I’m a bit controversial, yet I have yet to post anything controversial.   With the up coming election,  and the proximity to me and having been a long time resident of Vallejo in the past, I thought I’d check out the Bernie Sanders Rally.  To be honest, since it’s Vallejo, I actually thought it might be a good photo opportunity and thought maybe it would get a bit rowdy.   However,  the rally turned out to be quite peaceful.  Granted I think the whole Vallejo PD was there along with whoever the men in the black suits were.

The line to get in was long and from what I heard took a couple hours to get through.   My mom came with me so we opted to get a beer and a martini while we waited out the line.  We did see some interesting characters while walking through.

  Mom had the idea to go out and ask the people in line where they were from.  She asked 30 people and of the 30 only 4 were actually from Vallejo.  I know 30 isn’t enough for a good statistic but still was surprised by those numbers.

Apparently, the Bernie Rally wasn’t just for Bernie supporters.  We saw some Trump fans too.

  The line dwindled down and we could hear the not so distant cheers to something Bernie must have said, so we headed past the gate into the area Bernie was speaking.   Our bags and person were thoroughly checked, in fact I don’t think I’ve had my bags checked so closely.. even at the airport.   There wasn’t as many people as I thought there would be, but not a bad turn out.

  I’m glad I went, if only to be sure that I don’t agree with most if any of his politics.  To be honest, politicians are just that; Politicians and anyone can run their mouth.   I’m tired of politicians in office.  I’m tired of people who get offended easily.  I’m tired of people not researching what is said in the media, by our governments, on social media etc etc.   I’m tired of people policing everyone and getting laws passed and therefore creating less freedoms as individuals.    I could go on and on, but I won’t as it sounds way too negative and I prefer to keep negativity away.   So here is my small contribution to still not being very controversial, but hope you like the report on this rally anyway.

My sister got married back in April, but I couldn’t make it but she had her wedding reception at her house a couple weekends ago.    Since this is her first wedding, I had to go and I figured I could see more of that side of my family while there.   I have to admit that  I had forgotten how beautiful it is in Arizona.  I missed it and was glad to be able to drive across.   We drove straight through to Kingman, AZ.    In Southern California the weather was a bit eerie.  We could see the clouds and rain to all sides but our left which was sunny.  We were headed straight for what looked to be a storm……  Side note:   All the photo’s on the way to Arizona were taken with my phone and while my husband was driving…

We hit a nice down pour and this is what we got after we went through it.   All the way to my sisters we hit pockets of rain,  that seemed to only be raining at that spot.

We stopped in Kingman after about 10 hours of driving to get some shut eye.  Note to self, don’t stay at the Motel 6 again.   The next morning we continued on our way.   I kept my self busy by snapping pics every time I saw something I liked.   Unfortunately since we were on the move I didn’t capture everything I wanted.   Oh well,  life on the road I guess.

We stopped at the Roadkill Cafe to get some breakfast and that was quite a nice stop.  Not only was the food good, but the service was excellent and they had all kinds of stuff to sightsee and souvenirs to buy.

While sightseeing, my family apparently got into some trouble lol.

We finally reached Pinetop, AZ and checked into our much nicer hotel.  We then visited my dad and his girlfriend for bit and then headed to my sisters for nightcap.   It was fun to watch all the kids meet for the 1st time and then my niece and nephews put on a dance show. :)    The next day on Saturday was my sisters reception, I got to see my aunt and uncle and my dad and his girlfriend and all my sisters & her husbands friends.   They BBQ’d and even had a DJ and bounce house.  It was a great day and night.  Lots of fun with my family.   Reminds me that we need to keep in touch more often and hopefully my niece and nephew can come visit us in the summer.

On Sunday, the day we were headed back home to the North Bay, California.   We all went to Darbi’s to have breakfast.  Another place that had some great food, but expect to wait to get a table, it seems to be pretty busy all the time.

In Flagstaff, we got some snow and a 2 hour delay due to an accident.   I looked on the GPS and the next exit showed an alternate route down Route 66.  Although, we went down a dirt road marked “Private”  “No Outlet”.   Many others turned around at this point but we continued on and found the onramp to I40 just passed the accident.   Not too bad!  I think the people living on that dirt road didn’t want freeway traffic going through.  What do you think?

After taking that Route 66, we decided to take Route 66 instead of Interstate 40.    All the way to Kingman from Flagstaff on Route 66.  Very pretty countryside.   The following photos were taken with my camera, but again, while my husband was driving so it was hard to get some good shots, but the challenge was fun.

I do wonder about those people from the photo above living out in the middle of nowhere.  I can’t imagine living out that far, but I guess everyone has their reasons.

The following photo’s were taken just outside Needles, CA.   The sunset was hidden behind the mountains, but I think I caught a nice glimpse.

We drove straight through this time and arrived home around 4:30am on Monday.   I had such a good time and was a nice little getaway.   I need to do more of that.

In April I piled the kids in the car and we took a trip to Redding and Shasta.   My dad was working in Redding and he was excited to show us around and take us up to Lake Shasta and Mount Shasta.   It was a hot desolate 3 hours but we made it in time for dinner and then to bed for our big day ahead.   On Tuesday, I met up with some other photographers at Kirby Cove.   I had never been there before and fell in love immediately.    There is camping amongst the trees and the ocean and the San Francisco view only steps away.   Oh, and I can’t forget the swing that I tried to get on and fell off of.

I did some exploring of the old bunker that used to have guns attached awaiting any ships that might try to come through during the war.

After that, I went on the beach took some photos of the ocean and this wood box.

Then came the part I was waiting for.  Getting some photos of the Golden Gate Bridge at night.  I have never really shot at night so this was exciting.  I even managed to get the Bay Bridge in the shot.

Thought I’d try for the Bay Bride with Coit Tower.  Got it!

All in all the day was great, met some really nice people and the weather couldn’t have been more cooperative.

Kirby Cove On Tuesday, I met up with some other photographers at Kirby Cove.   I had never been there before and fell in love immediately.

Over the weekend, I went on a photo workshop with a landscape photographer I admire.  We took all back roads through Sonoma County to various spots to photograph.   It had been raining and was a grey day with some drizzle.

The countryside was gorgeous as usual, but I just wasn’t feeling it that day.  I enjoyed the views and made note of some wineries to check out.    I did learn quite a bit on some technical aspects of photography and of my camera, which was worth it’s weight in gold.

Personally, I’m not really that thrilled with the photos I captured, but here they are.   I will be back to shoot again and to do some wine tasting along the way.

Wine Country Photo Workshop Over the weekend, I went on a photo workshop with a landscape photographer I admire.  We took all back roads through Sonoma County to various spots to photograph.

My BFF came out to visit me yesterday.   I haven’t seen her in months.   Despite it being slightly overcast, we headed to the beach.    On the way, we stopped off in Valley Ford and had lunch and couple drinks at Dinucci’s Italian Dinner.  Francine was friendly and sassy which always makes a dining experience fun.

Next, the Beach!   Landed at Salmon Creek Beach in Bodega Bay.   It was beautiful out.  We hiked down and saw the creek was in full flow into the ocean which with our drought I had yet to see happen.  The waves were a bit violent but were stunning.

  Once we had hiked down to the beach, we found a spot that was dry and laid our sheet and stuff down.   As we were getting settled a wave came in and soaked the sheet….  Oh well, never a dull moment at the beach!   Here is a selfie with the water still at my feet.

Next we stopped off for some salt water taffy and wine tasting.    At Gourmet au Bay, we I had a flight of white and Marti had a flight of red.  I really wasn’t too impressed with the wine we tasted so headed over to the Tides.

At the tides… we had a snack and some spiked coffee.   It was great to chat and relax as we watched the fog roll in.   Finally we took a trip to Sebastopol to check out a vintage store but was closed by the time we got there.  All in all it was a fun adventurous day.

On the news, they mentioned that the erosion has uncovered some of the seawall and some lost stairs dating back to the 40’s.

Of course, we had to go, it was a great excuse to go into the city.

Once we got there, it was actually quite warm and sunny.  We walked down a path right onto the old seawall and stairs.

  We then headed down the beach and found an interesting lookout.

  After taking in the rays and listening to the soothing sounds of the waves while my boys ran all over the rocks, we started to head back and the sun hid behind the clouds.   We were having a little break in between rain storms.

  Kylan found some sand dollars and Devon decided to write a message in the sand.

  After this journey we were hungry so headed back to the car to find some food.   We did find a place with great atmosphere in Washington Square; the funky music,  delicious whisky ginger drink and pool table will bring us back.   I didn’t get photo’s of the Bar n Grill….  maybe next time.   All in all was a great day in the city!

It’s been warm the past few days so this past Thursday, after school, I took my youngest son to the beach.  I was really needing the soothing sounds of the wave for a little stress relief and make some photo’s too.   Usually when it’s warm and sunny at home, Bodega which is a 45 minute drive,  is foggy and cold.   Not this day!   It was gorgeous, perfect for exploring and hiking.    We stayed until the sun was almost gone.
