i work at the magnus institute, not sure if that's considered doxing myself for saying that? but i do. doxing can't be worse than what actually happens in the archives, honestly.
anyway. enjoy your stay? i suppose?

i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
people with ARFID and people with very few autism safe foods and people with contamination OCD and people in ED recovery and everyone else with a complicated relationship with food that no one takes seriously GET BEHIND ME!!!!!!!
Kyle,
How do you check things? Usually you do it with your eyes, and since I have eyes everywhere, I can check whatever I want.
Massive invasion of privacy, I Know. That's kind of the point.

Hello young one. It's been many a week since the death of my sister, your lover. It feels like yesterday I met her with my children, children who are now grown and near grown, children who stay from the work she gave herself. Children who have lost their Aunt.
I offer you a hand and a room shall you wish for one, I offer you peace in a garden she once found peace and joy in. I offer you plants from it to create your own garden. Come as you wish and as you please Dauphine for you may not have married, yet you were hers and that makes you family. Come visit if you wish, know you will be family.
Keep yourself safe is you can Dauphine, do not meet an early end. May you be watched over by whichever Gods you worship and may Fate be kind to you in her weavings.
Kindly,
Elide Cieri
(The letter is old and in Italian, it's an old form of the language, there are small marks where tears may have fallen on the page. The letter is free from it's envelope as if it had been opened and read by the recipient. There is a forget-me-not drawn in the corner of the page.)
(( @alive-immortal ))
this one i found on my desk at work. this is the only other instance of dauphine being mentioned i've found, and she seems to be important. at least she was, to someone. maybe she went missing? not sure. she's most likely read this letter, though. either that or someone read my mail.
forget-me-nots seem to be a theme. are they asking me not to forget them? are they saying i will be forgotten?
... i'm going into the archives and the library today to see what i can find. there has to be something.
Thank you for showing me your room when you visited. It was lovely to get to know you and your children. It's weird, how kind everyone is here to each other. I get being kind to children however being so kind to everyone is strange. Well actually I'm a child to you aren't I?
Thank you for the dress, it was quite lovely, I didn't think that I would ever own something this beautiful. It's quite a lovely dress. You asked me what I'd want to be when I grow older. I think I'd like to sing. The younger girls say that I sing the best lullabies.
What's it like being married? Is he kind? He seemed kind. I didn't think men could be that kind. Your husband seems so kind in a way I've only known few to be.
I don't think I'd wish for a husband. My mother told me I'd need a husband before she died, though when I asked Vivienne she said it's my choice if I ever marry or not. A choice I don't think I've had before.
Was it your choice to marry him?
Do you think I could visit you sometime? I'd like to meet the dogs you told me about. Vivienne has several and they're quite lovely things. I think I'd like to have one someday. I doubt Vivienne would allow me to have one myself. Do you think she'd let me have a dog?
How are your children doing back home? I hope they're well. They're good children, happy children.
Kindly,
Aria Ward
(The letter is in Italian, an older version of the language, the writing is sloppy as if she's not written many letters before. There is a small flower pressed into the letter as if Elide had pressed it in the letter after she read the it. The flower is a forget-me-not.)
(( @alive-immortal ))
again, thanks sasha for helping me translate.
right now I'm trying to figure out a timeline of these letters. they're certainly... old. i remember being told that they might have been dated around the 1600s? or at least according to vivienne. i had to look back through the other letters i've received, but it's been a bit difficult. they're falling apart and borderline disintegrating. need to find a preservation technique.
i've been looking for them. nothing's come up yet. ... here's hoping.
I've been informed you've taken in another child. Do you even have room for more children, mother? It seems as if every month you have at least one new child in your home. Why you insist they all have their own rooms with your record of how many you take in I will never understand. Here I sit in my garden reading a letter about another child you've taken in. You've given her what was once long ago my room I've heard. I have no issue with that, mind my words not.
I've been informed her name is Aria, a pretty name, I'm sure she'll do well in your home. I must meet this Aria who has what was once my room, maybe I'll show her where I hid things when I was younger. Oh it would be nice to visit again. My own children are growing, I'll need to bring them to meet their grandmother, won't I? They'll meet you and they'll meet their aunts and uncles.
Do you have a last name for this girl or is she simply Aria? You've given them all a last name, haven't you? I remember not what it was since I came with one myself when I landed at your door. Oh how long ago that was.
You must learn to pace yourself with children Mother, your body may stay young, but you are aging, you need not children running around causing mayhem each and every moment. You will not listen to my worries, that I know. You will tell me that you are perfectly capable of caring for as many children as you are entrusted with.
I will visit in a month's time to meet this Aria and I will bring my children with me as well as my husband if I am able. You have only met him twice and he is just lovely. You know, I'm sure that your late husband will have no worries with you moving on Mother Vivienne. You have been a widow so long and with so many children to care for you must be needing more hands.
Love your daughter,
Elide Cieri
(The letter is in Italian, an older form of the language, the letter is written in beautiful handwriting and the paper is yellowed with age and old. There are drawings on the letter, butterflies around the bottom of the page likely done absentmindedly by Elide.)

Had to phone a friend for translating this one, since my online one wasn't working as well. Shout outs to you, Sasha.
I'm still not sure how I'm getting these letters. Or... Why. But I'm going to. Something tells me I need to.
as in the institute? i think we still do walk-ins. mostly just so we don't have to actually do any paper work.
just don't be surprised if my boss looks at you like he wants you to combust on the spot. we have... a lot of statements. but i'm sure one of the assistants can get you. i technically can't, since i haven't been trained for it.
but it can't be that hard. talking to people is totally easy.
uhm. i mean. i take the tube to school? and then back to get to work. ... okay maybe i don't do your statement.
my boss might not take the tube. i swear he lives at the archives now. well, actually- one of us is currently living at the archives. something about an infestation at his apartment? i dunno. they don't tell me anything.
i find bugs delightful, personally. mostly arachnids and insects - butterflies specifically.
we had a worm infestation a little while ago. i remember a lot of CO2 and ... a corkscrew.
apparently two coworkers had to go to hospital for worm injuries. ... they haven't let me come back into the office for a little while. which is stupid, since i'm pretty sure everybody else is back by now.
You won't find anything on Aria Kalliope Ward or Dauphine, not anything you will think anything but myth of I'm quite sure. They died centuries ago. Aria before Shakespeare even published his first work and Dauphine before the blossoming of the 1600's. Not many outside myself keep collections that far back.
I can tell you of them if you wish. It's been a while since I knew them, though I have their records and writings still.
Kindly,
Vivienne Athanasiou

then how- how can i possibly have a letter from her? it's old, sure, but- the paper is pretty well preserved. ... mostly. that... bit just. came off. ... yeah.
regardless. there's always something about somebody. i can find something. ... but it'd be helpful to have some background, i think.
The preservation is my doing. I have no clue how you found it, I wasn't aware it was missing from my archives. I tried to save as many of their things as I could.
The farther back in time you go the more people are forgotten. It is why I keep my Archive, to remember people I have known.
I could tell you whatever you wish from how I found Aria to her death to how she met her dearest Dauphine. I am much impressed with how your technology was able to translate the letter, it was written so long ago and Dauphine as much as she tried was never the best at Italian.
oh, trust me. the translation needed some tweaking. had to phone a friend on a few phrases, since even google was having problems. but that's not important.
so you have an archive that goes back as far as pre-shakespearean? or even farther? and- and you knew them? how are you contacting me? what year is it for you? from your perspective, how long ago did they die? what's your relationship to them?
if you preserved the letter, how did it get to me? why did it get to me? who wants me to know about these people?

I've seen the most beautiful butterflies today in the garden, oh how you would simply adore them. I know it was your plan to plant a lovely garden here at our home. You never did get your chance to do so.
How cruel of Death to take you from me so soon before you got your garden my dear. I sit here some days wondering if I hear your singing in the birds as the butterflies float past.
There is much I wish I could say. Your sister is here, she wishes to study under myself and learn how I make my lace. She is quite adoring with your spark of mischief. How red will her hands be by her death do you think my love?
Oh the neighbors are insistent I get a husband like a proper lady. I am sure one of these days I will bite them shall they demand it anymore. I have no need for a husband, I have no wish for a man to ruin my peace.
I leave you to your Heaven my dear, or your Elysium as your mother says.
Bisous,
Dauphine
(The letter looks old and slightly worn yet in a wonderful condition. It was sealed still in its envelope by way of a pink wax seal of a butterfly. The envelope was addressed to Aria Kalliope Ward with no address to be found and no return address. Casey is likely the first to have read it since it was written. The entire letter is in Italian besides the greeting and sign off which are done in French)
( @alive-immortal )
i ... well. i hope all of those translations were... right? google translate isn't known for being accurate. you should see how it does scottish gaelic. but... wow.
i don't think this was meant for me. it doesn't have a date, but the letter is old. like, going to crumble in my hands, old. not sure how i got ahold of it. no return address. im looking around for Aria Kalliope Ward, but nothing yet. will keep updated.
maybe i can find something in the archives? i mean- magical envelopes appearing out of nowhere have to be logged someplace.
regardless - i don't think that Aria ever read this. ... maybe i can find dauphine.
