♡ INTRODUCTION: Hiya, I'm Kelper (She/they/he)! Welcome to my hoard of Pinky Monkey media. After seeing various plushies of the mascots on Ebay, I immediately fell in love with these guys.

Currently, I'm slowly going through the old Pinky website through the Wayback Machine, and I'm using this side-blog to store everything I find interesting! (Please be aware that I do not speak Japanese, therefore any translations shown are done using Google Translate....)

♡ WHAT IS PINKY?: Pinky is a mint-flavored tablet candy sold by Koikeya (formerly known as Frente International). It originally released in 1997, and came in small, cute portable packaging. Sometimes, you could find the occasional heart-shaped tablet shaped too! (It became a rumor that if you shared it with your crush, your feelings would be reciprocated.)

These types of fruity mints were discontinued in Japan by 2018. But in 2020, they have now been revived as "Pinky Fresh." It seems like their marketing has shifted towards being more "healthy and functional" through the use of Lactobacillus LS1.

Additionally, it seems like the fruit flavored ones have been revived around 2023. Although, they are now primarily being sold in Taiwan's convenience stores through a local company (U.C.B.M). These candies come in brand new packaging, and do not seem to include any heart-shaped ones...

♡ WHO ARE THE MASCOTS?:

Meet Pinky Monkey (ピンキーモンキー) and Fresh Monkey (フレッシュモンキー)! Starring in a plethora of packaging, commercials, and merchandise, these two monkeys have become a core part of Pinky's branding. I'm not entirely sure when they were first created, but I assume they started appearing around the early 2000s. Pinky Monkey promotes the fruity flavors, while Fresh Monkey sticks to the more minty ones. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with. You will have a Pinky whether you like it or not!

There were three different ways to enter the giveaway, either through the internet, mobile phones, or by sending the postcard itself!

Prize A was a set of Pinky Monkey & Fresh Monkey plushies (limited to 10,000 winners), while Prize B was a mobile phone strap of either Pinky Monkey or Fresh Monkey (limited to 90,000 winners)!

✧ Fresh Monkey - Character Profile ✧ Meet Fresh Monkey, the mascot for Pinky's minty flavors! Fresh is mainly characterized by his bright blue bandana scarf, and shining starry eyes.

From the commercials, Fresh appears to be friendly, carefree, and quite ditzy.

Additionally, Fresh seems to enjoy activities like eating, traveling, driving, and spending time with Pinky Monkey.

Listed below is Fresh Monkey's character profile taken from the official Pinky website during 2002.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the full extent of Fresh Monkey's character profiles. Compared to Pinky Monkey, aspects like Fresh's height, weight, birthday, star sign, blood type, and favorite foods seem to have been lost to time. (Hopefully, with further digging, we can at least discover his birthday! Any "new" information will be later added to this post.)

Nowadays, Fresh Monkey has become the main mascot for Japan's Pinky Fresh revival (2020)!

Sold in local convenience stores and drugstores, Pinky Fresh is intended to make you feel refreshed while keeping your gums healthy. In most promotional material, Fresh Monkey can often be seen alongside toothbrushes and a series of sparkles.

♡ Pinky Monkey - Character Profile ♡

Say "hi" to Pinky Monkey, the mascot for Pinky's fruity flavors! Despite often sharing the spotlight with Fresh Monkey, it's not difficult to see that Pinky was intended to be the company's primary mascot (the brand is quite literally called Pinky, after all)!

From the commercials, Pinky has been shown to be friendly, kind-hearted, generous, and extremely ditzy.

Additionally, Pinky appears to enjoy things like eating delicious food (mainly fruits), traveling, biking, picking flowers, and spending time with friends.

Listed below is Pinky Monkey's character profile taken from the official Pinky website during 2004.

Personally, I find the Gender section to be the most intriguing part here. Beforehand, I had simply assumed that Pinky Monkey was female due to the numerous instances where Pinky Monkey and Fresh Monkey appear to be romantically involved. However, imagine my surprise once I saw the updated character profile during 2006.

It seems like Pinky Monkey's gender was "changed" during this time period. Therefore, I will be referring to Pinky Monkey with (she/her) pronouns from now on.

Aside from these character profiles, not much else is known about Pinky Monkey. However, it should be noted that a short film about her background does exist! It's titled "The Day Pinky Monkey was Born" and was produced by Kenji Eno in 2006.
