I’m actually so happy with how that Luffy drawing turned out!!! It’s like I’m back in high school when I used to draw more backgrounds ehehe
ONE PIECE! ONE-WORLD! AROUND THE WORLD! 🌏
If I can survive... will I be able to make an impact on someone's life some day? Just like that guy?
Fan letter has captured my heart (I love outsider pov and the concept of this was so beautifully executed, wholesome af), and I know I am not alone.
But while lots of people talk about Luffy influencing big-brother marine’s choice to steel himself and go back for his brother, I also truly love how every time Luffy makes a chaotic move in that battle, it frees someone.
It’s completely unrealistic, in a sequence that absolutely highlights the terror and horror of war when you can’t hope to compete with the power of the main combatants. But even in that scenario, even in a war in which he himself is wildly outclassed, Luffy brings hope and freedom completely incidentally to the people around him.
The only reason big brother marine is alive to make any choices is because Luffy’s ship falling frees him from beneath Oars Jr’s leg. The only reason the marine brothers aren’t obliterated between Mihawk and Crocodile when they clash is they are tossed aside by Luffy finally freeing Ace.
Luffy isn’t trying to help them. He could not care less for some random marines in that war. But it creates this beautiful aura of freedom that follows Luffy around, and you could say it’s just the Nika-ness of it all for the canon crunchy explanation. But it is just that Luffy is forever and always a force of good in the narrative, and it’s comforting. It doesn’t need to be realistic. I love him.
"There's no platonic explanation for this" <-you need to be nicer to your friends. Right now

Love Luffy's adverse childhood experiences TM 'cause they really do be ranging
No parents, interesting relationship with grandfather (only known relative at the time)
Raised as a feral village child and then by actual criminals in a cabin in the woods and THEN he lived in a treehouse with two ten year old boys with no adult supervisors to make sure they don't literally perish (this is a seven year old, for those unaware)
Fighting grown men who happen to be Seasoned Criminals on the regular with these two ten year olds
Uhhhh he got mauled by a bear that one time
He nearly drowned several times
He almost got eaten alive by a Sea King, and he witnessed Shanks getting his arm eaten to save him
Nearly being murdered several times by grown adults (and Ace)
Falling down several cliffs. If I remember right he was pushed at least once (???)
Several hours of very literal torture in a row and then nearly getting murdered (again). He was possibly also aware that the residents of Grey Terminal could hear his several hours of screaming and that they didn't do anything about it
Speaking of the residents of Grey Terminal, some of 'em be murdering each other in broad daylight. I'm sure he's witnessed this at least a few times
Being swallowed whole by a crocodile
Surviving genocide by fire. Which he was also tricked into helping start
One brother got murdered
The other brother was at least slightly suicidal even if he never acted on it
It's implied that there were periods where Luffy didn't have the best food security. I'd also argue that after Garp took him out of the village, even when he had enough food to get full, he only really ate meat and rice, which is like, not enough nutrients? I hope Makino brought vegetables when she visited like frfr
[I'm sure I'm missing things, but the list is extensive as it is]
He stabbed himself in the face once for clout, does that count?
Like. As a Psych major???? This is just fascinating. It's a case study too wild to ever see in a textbook, at least in my experience, but the way these things play into his character has always seemed so realistic to me. Props to Oda ig. I doubt that he knew all of Luff's childhood from the beginning and yet he's such a consistent character
i just read the metamorphosis and it was fucking devastating. there are so many readings you could take, ive heard people say kafka intended it to be about depression which is something that he struggled with and i heavily fw the trans reading, but personally i primarily read it as being about disability. gregor wakes up one day physically unable to work and his family reacts with not only shock but disgust and horror. it's not even that THEY now have to work where they didn't before; we see at the end of the story that working doesn't really bother them. it's about his presence in their house. now that he's disabled and can't work, they dehumanize him completely, even denying that it's him at all. they act like having to take care of him is this horrible act of sacrifice they're performing - and they don't even actually take care of him, they leave him alone all day no matter how badly he wants company, they don't clean his room and instead let him live in filth (in fact they put their junk in there making it more of a mess), they throw things at him injuring him further, and they don't feed him properly to the point where he dies of malnutrition.
to me the saddest part was when grete said (not verbatim) "if it were truly gregor then he would've known it was impossible for us to live with a thing like that, and left already." bc fuck man. yeah of course gregor just gave up and died after that. how could he go on. his sister used to love him more than anyone else. is it the worst and most selfish thing in the world to want to be cared for by your own family.
aro spec culture is loving being aro AND LOVING THR COLOR GREEEN!!!!!! #MYGREEN
