Okay so I want to say that I am so happy and surprised at how well received my trident was ! ! ! I dd put a decent amount of work into it with some help of my friend with the sanding (could not have had it done for the con if she didn’t help) so I am ecstatic that my hard work was noticed ! ! !

Constructing Towards Degradation: Day 3

Below is my artist statement

Look around yourself and what do you see?

There are infinite responses to this question and each one is as true as it is false. Things are always changing and nothing can truly be perceived as it is. Entropy is always in effect, and for the past couple of thousands of years, so have been humans. We are always trying to combat this chaotic force that is constantly occurring. Buildings are constructed, forests cleared, gardens cultivated, and architecture left abandoned to be reclaimed by the nature that it tried to impose itself upon.

Architecture is one of human’s most pressive ways of combating or retaliating against what is. It’s done out of need as well as want but no matter the intention it creates a change that in a matter of time will just be a memory. The basic process is always the same. Once a space is chosen plans are drawn up and the space is quickly redefined. Its use and how to interact with it has been instantly changed by someone deciding to give it a purpose of their choice. As the building is created the foundation can be seen in the place of what was there before and as the progression continues to that of the final building, layers of memories are obscured by what is now there.

Eventually anything built will either crumble and fall, or be renovated, fixed again and again till it is either completely different than what it once was originally, or is destroyed with the intention of it being replaced with something new. The fact that change is ever present means no one can truthfully answer the question asked above. The human mind stores memories just as well as the land does, without even trying to patches are made to it or it disappears completely with just a trace left that something was there, till even that can be erased.
