rewatched the Santa Paws series yesterday; both 1 (The Search For Santa Paws) and 2 (The Santa Pups). Although Santa Buddies does loosely follow the same storyline, I consider it more its own thing as part of the Buddies series because of it including the classic buddies group. While yes, Santa Paws is a prequel series to Santa Buddies, they have little to do with each other besides being set in the same universe and worldbuilding. Even the two Santa Paws movies have very little in common plot-wise or cast-wise, but i’m sure Robert Vince had good reason for this.

Putting logistics aside, I like these movies a lot. The songwriting is some of the greatest I’ve heard from most films i’ve watched, even outside of the Airbud cinematic universe. the way they build off of classic christmas songs is really inspiring. I did sort of miss the classic buddies group, but the new characters, especially in 2, are still very charming. i might be wrong, but i’m pretty sure Charity shared a voice actor with Rosebud, so it felt like some of her personality shone through. I did think it was weird how the majority of the group were girls, and only one was a boy, but for some reason he was still the leader. i’m not going to claim anything is going on here, but it does seem like there’s a pattern going on throughout the franchise, with there being debatably no, or very few movies where Rosebud is the leader. but who am i to question Robert Vince.

Overall a solid 8/10 for the two movies i think!

Due to the CGI they used back in 2011, it wasn’t at its best. It was little bit uncanny and Pip’s spirit form barely resembles that of a Beagle. The retake is where his ghost form has some features and markings similar to a real Beagle puppy. He is also given different shades of grey and blue to give him that spiritual aura.

Even for a hellhound, the choice of using an English Mastiff is unique and fitting since the breed is intimidating. This is due to its original purpose of guarding and even used for warfare. A fresh breather from the common breeds used as villains for movies, such as the Doberman Pinscher and Rottweiler. I decided to have the skulls have a mysterious aura glow from the inside, to represent his demonic energy and the many souls he has consumed.
