Emma: It really is the best one especially if you just heat it a little and put whip cream on top! YUM.
Pippa: emma, I am straight up drooling now
Absolutely.
Lets see what you’ve got then..
Name a challenge and I’ll take it.
Text: Wrong Number // Open to anyone
Emma: I love pumpkin pie. It's my fav.
Emma: It's Emma Bishop btw.
Pippa: Same. All other pies are garbage compared to pumpkin
Pippa: Pippa Van Delle
Hm. We’ll see. Do you drink?
Absolutely.
Looks like it’s just me and my laptop this weekend. Along with a marathon of The Facts of Life. Yours?
My weekend was full of cramming. God, I fucking hate tests.
Text: Wrong Number // Open to anyone
Emma: I can't do this. I'm heading back to King, thanksgivings not really a real holiday right?
Pippa: I'd agree. I don't know who you are, but I'm buying a pumpkin pie. If you need some, I gotchu
“Assumptions make an ass out of you and me. Yet here you are, assuming things again. Why should I share my cigarettes with you, bella?”
“Parla Italiano? It’s no fun to smoke without company!”
Oh lord. Well, I have so many papers due and I’m desperately trying to study for my MCAT early since I’m not a Premed major. Life is so busy and I don’t really like it.
I totally feel that. I wish I could just hop on a plane and find a beach somewhere.
“I suppose I should. It does seem beneficial in the long run. We? Who said anything about we? And cigarettes. I’m not a US citizen, I don’t feel like having my visa revoked.”
“I would agree. Cigarettes? Alright, I’m down. I’ve got a lighter.”
Anya forced herself to blink back the tears she felt forming and gritted her teeth together, shaking her head at Pippa’s words. Pippa was such a precious part of Anya’s past it was breaking her heart that her old friend had such hope that the two could still get back what used to be there. Like Anya’s father had never broken her and reduced her world to scripted conversations and pretenses or hidden her mother’s grave from her. Like she’d never spent days in a hospital’s intensive care unit after trying to kill herself like her mother had. How could she tell Pippa all that? She wanted that memory of the two happy for herself and it made her sick to think Pippa genuinely held so much hope.
“Pippa…” Anya started, forcing herself to keep her voice from cracking “You’re one of the very few good memories I have in my life. You’re… you’re a reminder of better times and I know you think you won’t be disappointed but you will. There’s no more Anya. The things that made me me when we were younger aren’t there and I don’t want to be the one to hurt you. I… You’re precious to me and I don’t want to ruin you so just… please. I don’t want to hurt you even the slightest”
Pippa couldn’t possibly imagine what Anya had gone through. Had it been worse than what she experienced? What could be worse than watching your sister grow more and more sick everyday and then having her die in your own arms? Pippa shook her head. Anya could have easily gone through something worse than that.
Pippa bowed her head. She couldn’t come up with a response. She’d lost Anya, but something inside of her couldn’t let that happen. The wheels in Pippa’s mind were turning, and suddenly her face lit up. The brunette looked back up at her friend. “Alright, you’re not Anya anymore and I’m not really Pippa anymore, so I say we introduce ourselves. I’m Pippa Van Delle, pleasure to meet you.” Pippa smiled weakly. She knew her attempt to become friend with Anya was useless, but it was worth a shot.
James & Pippa
The bonfire night was surprisingly colder than anyone would have expected and everyone was taking generous amounts of alcohol to keep themselves from freezing- James included despite the fact that he was used to the cold. He liked the whole idea though, bonfires and the sorts were always enjoyable and, as he went to take a seat by the bonfire, he was pleased to find Pippa already sat there with a cup of some drink in her hand and, quietly sneaking up behind her, he pulled her into a hug, ruffling her hair with a grin,
“There you are loser” He laughed “What’re you doing there all by yourself?”
Pippa couldn’t help but scream as James came up behind her. “Oh my God, James! You scared the shit out of me!” The surprised look on her face quickly turned into a smile. “I’m just over here drinking the night away and trying to keep my toes from freezing? Who the Hell throws a beach bonfire in the winter?” The girl returned to her spot on the bench and patted the spot next to her, motioning for James to sit with her. “Come sit with me.”
“Alright, alright. What do you need? You aren’t an asthmatic, are you? I intend on smoking like a burning building.”
“Well, since it is a group project, I was hoping you could contribute to the group part of that. What are we smoking?”
How have you been holding up? Mid-terms killing you?
Mid-terms hit me like a train. I didn’t believe in God til I passed my Arabic, French and Italian tests. How about you? How have you managed to survive this Hell?
“So, you expect to come here, into my domain, and push me around as though I were some low rate sex worker with little hard line rules? You hurt my head..”
“What? Dude, I just need your help with this project.”
Sleeping. And more sleeping. What about you?
I’ll probably be doing the same. I seriously need to catch up after this week, it’s been crazy.
Anya was just about ready to call herself a cab and get away from the bonfire as soon as possible when Pippa managed to catch up to her, blocking her way as Pippa stood in front of her with a frown on her face. How could Anya even begin to tell her that everything had changed? That the friend Pippa used to know basically ceased to exist after her mother had died and the two had drifted apart.
“Look” She began, forcing herself to swallow the lump in her throat as she faced Pippa “I don’t know what you were expecting but things are different alright Pippa? I… I’m different. The person you used to know doesn’t exist anymore so just… just save yourself the hassle of disappointment and leave”
It broke Pippa’s heart to hear what Anya was saying. Why didn’t she want to be friends? “You changed? So what? Everyone does. It doesn’t mean I’ll like you less because you aren’t the same person as you were at ten. Frankly, I’d rather not hang out with a ten year old. I’ve known you forever, there’s no way I’ll be disappointed. It’s unconditional, baby.”
Pippa pushed her hair behind her ears and offered a hopeful smile. She had been so happy to reconnect with Anya, and she really hoped that her childhood friend would feel the same way.
