My mini shinai shiai
I MISSED THE SEMINAR WITH UCHIMURA I AM SAD EVERYONE SAID IT WAS SO EPIC DAMN MY ACHILLES.
@gentlekendoist since I was sitting out and still need to practice for the tournament, he figured I may as well do some good ol' suburi practice ☺
@ghostsofkezan Kendo dojos do! It can be hit to signal the start and end of an exercise or in some tournaments, they hit it at the start.
I sat out of team practice to heal my achilles
So my sensei said I owed him 500 suburi by the end of practice. A sensei from another dojo was kind enough to stop by every so often to adjust my suburi and let me hit him sometimes to check. I think my men improved a ton just from that. I don't know how many I did since I stopped counting after 500 but my arms hurt.
I also got to hit the dojo drum many times. I think that was the best part.
So this happened tonight. Usually shinai survive this but here you can see the shard of bamboo flying off. Also, don’t mind my kakishibuzome keikogi/hakama set.
Flashback to me accidentally demolishing one of our cheap dojo bokkens 😅😅
I'm so sad it's been dry here and one of my shinai had 3 snapped slats all of a sudden 😭
I made a kendo diary instagram!
First team practice and I want to run away to hide in a mountain

Men-kote-men uchi
Some other things that I can't even remember

Pair up for shikake-waza practice
Kakarigeiko repeated until drum hit
Kirikaeshi repeated until drum hit
100 hayasuburi
I'm tired.
I can feel it coming...
The burn out. I've only just started extra sunday practices but I've had only kendo on my mind for so long that I can almost feel that wall that everyone has to overcome whenever they dedicate themselves to something.
I need to keep my focus on whatever it is that's on the other side, though it's hard because I can't see it right now. But I trust that it's there.
OKAY LIKE. WHY.
Just not a fan of kaeshi-do right now.
Signed up for a seminar with 3 time All Japan Kendo Championships winner, Ryoichi Uchimura. Not sure what it's going to entail but I'm also going with a bunch of friends so it should be a good time.
Of course I have a team practice the very next day, too. 頑張る。
Jiu Jitsu Instructor Lets Adorable Little Girl Beat Him
Did I ever post the rib shot I took at team try outs a few weeks ago? Had to stop the match for a hot second to hiss.
I survived my first sunday practice
Though to be honest it actually wasn't as bad as normal practice. There was a lot more variety like agility ladder, and variations of kirikaeshi, but because there were SO many people, enough that we had to line up in 3 lines across a 2 court dojo, there was a lot of resting while you wait for your turn.
It was oddly fun and even though I didn't eat at all, I had a surprising amount of energy. I did hear recently from a coworker that exercising while you're in a fast gives more energy though I'm not sure where that energy would be coming from.
Only got 6 more months of Sunday practice to go before the tournament.
So weirdly enough...
Doing a horrifying amount of basics compared to the rest of the dojo and then doing very long jigeiko made me less tired than other practices. My sensei said he believes I can win the tournament but I really need to sell my hits.
See, when I strike, if it feels bad or my opponent blocks, I tend to stop and back up to a safe distance to try again because in my mind, it wouldn't get the point. But really, if I shouted a ton and really make it look like I believe I got the point, judges have a tendency to be persuaded to give it. So I guess I need to start being more dramatic and commit to whatever I do.
Which honestly is such a good way to live life in general.
My FEET. They hurt. Feels like plantar facistis or something. I helped out with non-bogu today instead and just received. My sensei called me out and after explaining I couldn't do footwork nor put weight on my foot, he accepted it but he still looked disappointed.
