building onto the idea that Joe and Cherry try to preserve the bond between Reki and Langa because they serve as reminders of their past selves. i’m caught on the fact that Reki and Langa frequently encounter Joe sitting at this counter.
Joe keeps coming back to this restaurant, sits at the same counter and orders the same thing, yet he’s alone. he’s reminiscing on the way things were before they got into skating and met Adam but it’s so painfully different now.
in season one Cherry mentions the fact that he finally has the opportunity to settle a seven-year grudge with Adam, while Joe holds his tongue — he isn’t outwardly angry like some or tolerant like others. but we see that, for him, this has been far longer than seven years.
in his eyes Adam never did anything personal to him, but he’s watched Cherry fall apart over the course of seven years, noticed the cracks forming in their relationship and did nothing about it. the second time Reki meets him in this restaurant, Joe attempts to console him into mending his relationship with Langa after their fallout.
