Bruh it’s so annoying that people are more interested in Leon’s ring and who’s he married to than the new character Grace.

And now with the DLC coming they’re wondering if it’ll explain who’s he married to. Like who cares!?

Originally I was gonna bite my tongue but the more I think about this, the more ridiculous it becomes to me so I'm just gonna say it outright: it really doesn't matter what the pairing is-- there's absolutely no build up to it. There was no previous canon relationship, nothing that showed their connection. No dates, no engagement, no build up to the marriage, nothing. Quite literally nothing but a scene that you can't even see without a freecam mod.

Even if hell froze over and pigs flew and Chreon finally went canon, I mean sure I'd enjoy that, but its not really how I'd want things to go. I'd want to see their first dates, get details about their relationship, see their engagement, their wedding, etc. I wouldn't want it to be a situation where their entire relationship exists off screen and all we get is a blip of a confirmation in an interview. And I don't get why anyone else would want that for their ships either, especially when you factor in the way in which RE treats it's woman characters because god fucking forbid he be married to any established woman character in the franchise because we all know at that point she will be treated as nothing more than Leon's Wife. She'll lose her identity, her agency, her personality, and everything that made her an interesting character and all both fans and Capcom will ever talk about for her in the future will be who she is to Leon, what she does for his story, how she helps him, etc.

And I don't know why people expect this to be shown in the DLC either? I mean I thought it was quite clear both due to the interviews and the fact that the ring requires freecam to even see that this was never intended to be a focal point. I'd love if RE showed more of the characters' personal lives and stuff like that, but they don't. They just don't. This is not a romance game, this is not a romance franchise, and even the existing/established romantic relationships in the franchise aren't really the focal point; they're more background information.

But all of that is to say I completely agree with you, Anon. There's so much to dig into with Requiem, so much to talk about, and yet people chose to fight over ship wars...

definitely I think he's not married and I'll stand by that, cause why the fuck would he in a good healthy state after got injected by elpis that he called as "better than any ages". Suddenly he just like okay I'll stay with grace and would die with her once the ARK destroyed itself. Leon know that even as an agent himself he need to move forward.....despite he see himself in grace it still irritating me he willing to die with her at the end.......that's not a married man...... He would be a worse husband to his wife....considering his action in this requiem.....older yes! But not good husband..... And I know marriage wasn't supposed to be perfect but it does not line up with how Leon act in this game. So I believe this still zombie game that even the characters didn't have a chance to talk about romance.

I acknowledge there's a possibility that his wife accept his line of job, but even the normal wife.....will never survive marriage with a man that constantly facing mission every mission. It's make sense if his wife in the same line of job but consiidering he still willing to die with grace in healthy state without a second to think about his wife.......

I will accept if he's really married but doubt Capcom will do that.......

On the subject of phones/texting, what kind of phone do you think Leon would have? Me personally, I'd say a Nokia PURELY because I read a fic that mentioned him having one and also mentioned that said Nokia survived Spain and it's just been burned into my brain because I remember having a Nokia and one of them absolutely WOULD survive the events RE4, I feel it in my bones because I dropped mine down the stairs once and it kept working for two more years afterwards.

I have amazing news: we actually do have an answer for this, at least in the 2006/Infinite Darkness era. He had a Motorola Razr V3!

Prior to this, I could definitely see a Nokia. They were popular for a reason and he could even use it as a weapon if he needed to because those things are damn near indestructible.

I think I want to add a few more things.

Honestly, compared to all these ship wars (which are very common on my X timeline), what I actually hope for is that the Resident Evil lore would explore more of the characters’ life stories.

For example, with Chris and Claire, we already know that they are orphans, and later Chris chose to join the military.

But for Leon, I’m honestly very interested in his childhood background. He’s half Italian, but why does his name sound so American? Did he originally have an Italian name that he later discarded? I don’t know why, but I feel like this part of his story could really be explored more deeply, haha.

Especially considering that Leon’s parents died because they were involved in a “crime-related” tragedy. And the police officer who saved Leon… what happened to him? Is he dead, or is he still alive? If he died, didn’t any of his friends or colleagues —Leon’s adoptive father’s friends—ever try to look for Leon? Or what about the criminal network itself, since Leon was the child of the victims they killed?

And honestly, whenever Italy is mentioned, I can’t help but think there might be a small connection between Leon and the mafia—hehe.

Oh, and is this true:

As for Jill, I haven’t explored her lore that deeply. But one thing that interests me is her relationship with Carlos. I kind of hope Carlos is still around and eventually joins the BSAA, but well… that’s up to the writers.

Also… I feel a bit uncomfortable about Albert Wesker’s obsession with Rebecca. I mean, Rebecca joined S.T.A.R.S. when she was still quite young, right? Maybe in her early 20s or even younger. And Wesker is obviously older than her…

So why would he keep a photo of Rebecca in her sports outfit inside a book? Honestly, I just can’t wrap my head around it…

At most, all we can really do is write fanfiction where all the characters are present.

But yeah, these are just some random thoughts. I just hope we’ll get to learn more about the backstories of the other characters someday.

Agreed, I love to get more background on the characters' lives, especially the details about their lives pre-RCI.

For the Redfields, it gets a little interesting. In the original lore (so this may or may not be canon at this point; nothing that says it is, but also nothing that says it isn't so it's pretty up in the air), Chris was from New York and their parents are killed in a car accident when Chris was 20 and Claire was 14. Chris had joined the Air Force straight out of high school because he didn't know what to do with his life and didn't want to go to college. But we don't get any further details on what happened with their childhoods like did Chris raise Claire after their parents died? We don't know.

For Leon, things are a bit more complicated. His first name (Leon) is taken from the 1994 movie Leon: The Professional, which inspired other characters and things in the series too (Rebecca was inspired by Mathilda, and Leon's gun is named after that character as well) which is about an Italian-American assassin. The name Leon is Greek in origin, but I believe its actually more popular in Europe than it is in the US anyway. Kennedy is typically and Irish or Scottish surname, but the early material was quite clear about Leon having been conceived as Italian-American. There are a variety of potential explanations for this-- assuming Leon has his dad's last name, his mother could be Italian and his father could be Irish-American, so that could be why he has an Irish surname. Its also possible that Kennedy is just the Americanized approximation of whatever his original surname was.

Speaking from personal experience, Americans who can only speak English have a hard time pronouncing non-English names or words. And especially back before the digital age, when people would immigrate to the US, their names would be completely fucked up and misspelled by American officials who couldn't be bothered to fill in the forms correctly. Both sides of my family immigrated to the US and all of their names were so fucked up by the US officials that they changed them, so my surname only sounds American because it was changed to fit the English language. So that's the name that's on my birth certificate, but its not the name my grandparents and great-grandparents came to this country with. And the "further" you stray from the sounds of the English language, the worse the fuck ups become. Both Italian and English use the Latin alphabet so the "Kennedy" family would fair a bit better, but speaking from experience when you get to languages that don't use the Latin alphabet, it becomes borderline indecipherable as the Americans just approximate the sound the letters make but it doesn't match phonetically. Also possible that the devs just didn't care about that aspect as much haha.

There's also some interesting Jill lore too-- she's French and Japanese-American. Her father was a French criminal, and that was how she learned to pick locks. And her mother was Japanese! She had family in Japan that came to visit her in RC and she showed them around. Or at least this was what we were told in the original lore, but I think that's just a rare fact these days as I don't even think most people are aware of the fact that Jill is half-Japanese, or at least she was supposed to be but Capcom whitewashed the hell out of her.

☠️ Hunk telling Nighthawk to go and leave him during RE2 4th Survivor is the first time we see him respond with any emotion or concern for anyone else other than his mission.

☠️ Nikolai and Sergei Vladimir were friends and fought together in the soviet war.

☠️ Sergei Vladimir and Ozwell E Spencer were also old friends which is how Sergei came to rule over the UBCS in the first place. He was completely loyal to Spencer.

☠️ Chris bulking up between Code Veronica and RE5 was a direct response to Wesker being able to beat him so easily. He wanted to get stronger despite Wesker possessing superhuman strength.

☠️ Claire and Leon have a really shaky relationship thanks to Leon’s loyalty to the US Government. He doesn’t deviate from this until RE6 when he decides to defend Helena Harper and sympathises with her actions.

☠️ The knife Leon carries in the RE4 remake is the same knife Marvin gives him in the RE2 remake

☠️ Jake Muller said he was trained by an unnamed mercenary, some speculate this could have been Hunk as he became a mercenary after the Umbrella trials in 2003

☠️ The metal band Ice Nine Kills made a song based on the Resident Evil franchise called ‘Rainy Day’ (and its very good I recommend)

☠️ For Hunk to snap necks the way he does would require a hell of a lot of strength

☠️ Also in the RE3 Remake, we never truly find out who Nikolai’s client was and Jill never does the ‘detective work’ on it either. It’s theorised that it was Sergei Vladimir as he is the only person Nikolai had any kind of contact and relationship with.

☠️ There is an unofficial Resident Evil 4 inspired puzzle game on the Switch called Safe Room where you organise items into differently shaped grid boxes. Perfect for those that enjoy the satisfaction of good inventory management.

☠️ Crimson head zombies are a mutated variant of regular T-Virus zombies that can happen sometimes if you ‘kill’ them. But they are actually the midway point between a regular zombie and a Licker. (Note the sharp claws)

I guess it depends on what you mean by changes. I think Capcom does sorta change their RE characters a fair amount (at least the men... can't say the same for the women...) and Capcom does have some batshit insane freakiness aspects, but just not a whole lot in RE. DMC is kinda wild sometimes, I mean they've got part of a whole interview dedicated to discussing the character's uh... johnsons.... but I think they should make DMC and RE even more freaky like let's canonize mpreg guys. I guess technically mpreg went canon in 2004 for RE 'cause of the plaga thing with Leon in 4, but I think they should go even harder.

[X] is on the wiki, but is it true? The wiki is no longer a decent source of RE lore. There's a lot of missing information and things not included for some of the characters since the source material is not generally accessible so people writing the information probably haven't heard of them. Additionally, the writer of the wiki seems to have taken a lot of creative liberties. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask, and I will do my best to provide an answer with a source!

Are the novelizations canon? Yes! Each CGI movie has it's own supplemental material released for it. Degeneration has Angela's Diary, both Vendetta and Damnation got a novelization, Death Island has a manga, and Infinite Darkness has a prequel comic. Note** generally in the fandom, a lot of older fans will refer to the SD Perry novels as "the novels" which causes a lot of confusion with the canon novelizations-- the SD Perry novels are not canon.

How can I watch the CGI movies? If they are not available on a streaming service you have, DM me and I can help you find them.

Where did you find the novelizations? I bought and imported them from Japan through various websites, and paid more money than someone should ever have to pay for a paperback novel for them, courtesy of Capcom and their refusal to make things available for the series outside of Japan lol.

Where can I find the Infinite Darkness comic? You can purchase all of the currently available ones from Midtown Comics. If purchasing them is not an option for you, DM me : )

Was Leon actually in STRATCOM? Yes, other accounts will say this is a misconception but that's just false. It's true, but buried in some obscure lore. Bruce's profile in Survivor states that he's part of a "secret military organization" run by STRATCOM that fights bioterrorism. Sound familiar? The AUPIT, which Leon was a part of as confirmed by Darkside Chronicles, was also described as a "secret military organization" prior to the official confirmation of it's name in DSC. As such, we know it's the same organization.

Regarding Wesker & Rebecca-- Please don't send me asks about this anymore. I've answered this question over a dozen times but I get asked about it almost daily. You are welcome to go back and read the previous posts I've made about this. To put it bluntly, people love to make something out of nothing. It's an Easter Egg, and there's really no significant in-universe meaning for it whatsoever. That doesn't mean it's not weird (to say the least), however, but I think people are really missing the point with this. This is not a reflection of Wesker, rather it's a reflection on the developers and the people working on this game who thought this would be "ok" to do as a "joke". RE has a very big misogyny problem both in the games and behind the scenes, and it's frustrating to see people try to ""cancel"" a fictional character over an Easter Egg rather than hold the real people doing disgusting shit accountable, or even just acknowledge it at all. I implore everyone to go read some of the interviews with the developers.

Go look at how they "joke" about sexualizing all of the women characters, read the RE6 guide-- especially the part about Sherry-- & how all the costumes were decided for the women, look at Jill's RE5 concept art and their explanation for how they chose the device location, read the DI interviews where they scrapped a whole modern design for Jill & gave her the anti-aging shit just so that men would find her "hot,"-- the photo of Rebecca is just another example of this. It doesn't really have anything to do with Wesker specifically, but it has everything to do with why the adult men working on the game think it's ok to sexualize teenage girls and repeatedly objectify the women in the franchise over and over again.

Generally speaking, I probably won't answer it because I like to keep this blog as a positive space and I want to talk more about the ships I enjoy rather than the ones I dislike. No offense, ship what you want to ship of course, but I... wouldn't really have any input on your ship haha.
