So I just fed Pisces, and noticed he has a small lump on his left side. I don't think it's anything swim bladder related. He's swimming fine, still has a healthy appetite, and is extremely active. Could it be a cyst or tumor of some sorts, and is there anyway to ease any discomfort he may have? Could it just be he's getting old and lumpy? I've had him over a year, and he wasn't some spring duck when I got him either.

Today marks a day since I've owned Pisces, and honestly my life and happiness has changed for the better. To some he's just a fish, but to me he is my purpose to not give up. After all, if I died, my mom would over feed him to death... not to mention what his tank would become... /shudders. Anyway.... happy 1 year anniversary Pisces, my grump face. <3

tbh I’d love a horror-comedy about a retail worker accidentally becoming a ghost/demon hunter because they’re just so unfazed by difficult and weird and bellicose customers that evil entities aren’t much more of a challenge.

So, this morning I got up to feed Pisces and noticed that Waldo, my assassin snail, was clinging to the water surface. He had been acting strange the night before, and upon further conversation with my LFS, we came to the conclusion that he had an air bubble in his shell. The poor baby.

Anyway, before I even fed Pisces, I watched in utter horror as Waldo let go of the water, and fell straight onto the gravel at the bottom- landing on his shell. I heard the crack of his shell, it was such a sad sound.

I immediately rescued him from the tank to see what the damage was, and noticed a large crack along his shell. I put him in a small container to monitor how he was doing. He seemed to be okay before I left for work, but when I came home, he was on his back and unmoving. 

I brought him to the LFS to see what could be done, but alas, there was no hope for Waldo.

Since I had gotten Waldo at this LFS, they replaced him at no charge, and I now have a much larger, heftier snail named Romeo.

One of my favorite LPS is a chain. And after reading this I’m sure you’ll all tell me, “it was a chain what did you expect all they care about is money.” I understand this, but I like to believe that the employees at this chain actually care about the well being of the pets in the store- aquatic or not. Every time I’ve mentioned an animal or fish looking ill or distressed they always do something immediately, whether it’s separating a parakeet from getting picked on, or removing a fish from a tank to quarantine so they could see what’s wrong, to inspecting betta and immediately giving them proper medication. However, last night… last night was not okay. I was admiring the lovely Dumbo betta they have and happened to glance up at a GORGEOUS dragonscale betta. He was floating on his side at the top, flapping his fins uselessly. The poor thing was bloated beyond belief , and I immediately suspected a swim bladder problem. When I mentioned it to an associate she responded, “oh that’s OK. It happens all the time.” …..?! If it happens that much, you’re feeding them way too much! If it happens all the time, then fix it! As a fish owner and beginner hobbyist, it really hurt me to see this one associate out of many who care to just disregard the health of this betta.

This is what I get from my local chain store every time. But it’s not from overfeeding. It’s from once a week feeding and once a week water changes.

The training for chain stores is literally watching a video that shows you how to tie a fish bag. You can never expect anything from them.

It's so sad. If the aquarist was there I'm sure it would've been taken care of immediately. Last time I was there I informed her that the female bettas they had near the males had severe stress stripes, and she moved the males away. When I checked back before leaving a half our later, the stripes had faded considerably.
