It’s the one year anniversary of Jari Niemelä’s death.
Jari Niemelä (2 July 1962 – 13 August 2016), originally of Kokkola, Finland, was both a print and radio journalist, author of several books on local history and member of Tampere Municipal Council.
He was also a Pispala activist, editor-in-chief of Pispalalainen magazine and a noted member in such societies as Pispalan Moreeni and Lauri Viita Society (dedicated to Pispala’s poet laureate).
Above Jari Niemelä as depicted last year in a memorial graffiti on the wall of former Lielahti Pulp Factory.
Vaakon Nakki, the legendary grill at Pispalan valtatie 37, was established in 1962.
