Apologies for the long wait for season 2’s documentation, life got hectic.

Here we have the archive notes for season 2 and the one shot, as well as some formatting and missed references from season 1.

Patch notes for season 1 include:

Layout reformatting to be slightly more consistent

Addition of newspaper journalist to media section

A new category has also been added for season 2 to cover the behind the scenes stream. This is specifically for unused assets that I am not counting as canon unless it crops up in future seasons as for some of them the lore has changed since the asset was created. However, I am including it as canon if it is an asset that appeared in the show and the resolution wasn’t clear enough to read properly.

Another note to say I have included the alternate names of months in the archive even though I think technically they are not used in universe as they were a typo by Leland that was riffed on. I have included them because I personally enjoy them and want to make them work. I have ideas on how to make them work that I will discuss in a separate post.

BY SEASON Season 1 One Shot Season 2 Season 3

Currently rewatching episode 1 of drawtectives season 2 (for my mental health) and at around 20 minutes in they start joking about them all dying together at the end of season 3. And obvi season 3 was not at all in the works when they made the joke, but I am getting really worried that Julia might have remembered it when writing Midnight Alley.

Evidence beyond the circumstantial includes:

Midnight Alley's plot so far is set up with a built in Impending Doom. Good plot pacing for this kind of thing is obviously to have them racing against the clock for a last minute save as close to the active danger as possible. As far as setup for a holding hands as the flames consume them in a sacrifice to save innocent lives go, this is a pretty dang one.

Jancy's whole situation. We are getting snippets of info about Jancy that puts our unquestioning faith in her into question, while she is otherwise out of commission from the events of season 2. Based on the trailer, it felt like she knew more about what was going on than setting up the murder mystery. I trust that she has good intentions still but I feel like we are setting up for a moment that the Drawtectives could initially see as a betrayal. Obvi Jancy's ambiguity doesn't have any direct bearing on whether anyone will die, but it would make any noble sacrifices very poetic/dramatic.

Eugene's whole situation. My guy can actually talk to ghosts and give them the ability to possess animatronics (other machinery, perhaps?) That is a huge built in Lore Mechanic for the gang to continue to play their characters and affect the world from beyond the grave, even if it's a temporary. (Also, for a guy whose whole deal is helping others move on, he is NOT good at that to the point where he gave his CAT a JOB. Killing the Drawtectives could actually destroy him. Again, potential for huge drama)

From a very meta perspective, it would be entirely reasonable for Julia to want to move on from Drawtectives at this point in her life. As much as I love the show, she just had a whole ass baby. If ending Drawtectives means a happier Julia and New Rad Julia Projects, I'm a happy fan. (More Drawtectives Also Good Yes Pleaseeeeee, but if Julia wanted to end it, killing the gang would make it pretty unambiguously over rather than leaving it as a perpetual option to continue and having people ask about it)

Anyway, obvi this is all just a guess, I have faith that whatever the hell Julia did is incredible. Part of the fun of a detective story is trying to figure out how it's gonna go. I'm excited to see what happens when it comes back from hiatus!!! :]

Huh, so I haven't been engaging in all that much meta theorizing since Episode 1, but you make a compelling case op.

If I may address your second point specifically, in relation to my current most prominent theories; that The Snake is possibly benevolent and more than one person. Jancy absolutely has the potential to be in on the conspiracy, and causing a high-profile incident with a hero and a villain is a great way to draw public attention to Midnight Alley's flooding problem, and potentially get more resources allocated to fixing it.

This would, however, mean that the threat of death for the Drawtectives would be entirely accidental. Miscalculating the amount of time the Valve could be missing for before the bulkhead becomes unsealable, that sort of thing.

It would significantly up the ending drama to go from a race against time to a diffusion of tension and then to a far worse race against time.

Personally I don't really think they would do a full TPK, but the threat of such is extremely compelling.

Post E6 update

We have another seven characters added to the board, and an important bit of history revealed to us by the exterior of the Fish Market, The Snake's theoretical benevolence is gaining more evidence by the minute.

Fun fact, this is the first time we've had interactable characters who are Clients, rather than Employees, of Alley Buisnesses/Services.

Catherine's full name remains on a pseudonym tag for obvious reasons.

And the Scuttle Bud Record has been added to the Keeper's Guild, as it gives us our current date, since Fleur stated it was due today.

And a smattering of notes discussing the distressing fact that the alley apparently flooded quite badly last year, and that none of the residents have yet found that notable enough to remark upon.

Theories:

-These are pictures of people who successfully got a date (then why is that one guy alone??? on Valentine’s Day????)

-These are people who genuinely caught actual fish somehow (then why do so many people come here in pairs???)

- These aren’t actually real and Ms. McClure put them there to trick people

- I’m just thinking too hard about a background shot because there’s not much to theorize about in this episode

Well if they did successfully get a date there is a pier or wharf or some such right outside the building:

Maybe if it goes well at the Gazebo you hire some gear and have a fishing date?

And the solo guy is content not to be in a relationship so he took himself fishing for Valentine's Day.

Hey y'all,

Since it's gonna be awhile til we actually find out, I wanna know what y'all think this "Abandoned Building" could be, since it's distinctive shape Caught my eye ever since I first looked at the map.

And while we're at it, there's some interesting stuff in this area.

I'd be willing to say that "Loom" was a Business once inhabiting the Abandoned Building, and that "Trance River" is the unmarked body of water to the southeast of our map.

But it also appears that what is now the Fish Market may have been the "Crows Nest", which given it's position in relation to the river and the Alley's history could have interesting implications about it's original purpose.

And last and perhaps most disturbingly, we have a flood marker on the side of the building, where the only dated level also happens to be the highest.

Not much to add this time due to certain charming orcs finessing their way around the investigative process.

For starters we have the addition of two of Spire City's Bravest,

And the only known employee of the Lost Orc, who has been given a POI tag for these reasons.

We got a look at The Snake!!! (or 'one of' if the theories serve)

and as per the peoples clamoring, Porcino has officially been moved to the 'Tectives section!

And there he shall remain barring extenuating circumstances.

okay. more things to say. drawtectives s3 spoilers under the cut.

I hate to say it but I’m suspicious of Kragor. I mean, all the other characters were heavily focused on the task at hand and the other drawing challenge had to do with solving the mystery… but Kragor seemed 1) unconcerned that the snake was burning even though he had spent so long on the sweater and 2) interested in kind of… wasting the drawtectives’ time? Obviously it wasn’t a total WASTE because he’s so lovely but it does feel like everyone else, even skeet, was interested in getting to the bottom of things, while Kragor was just reminiscing. Maybe he was waiting so that the person in the hat could get in place? Maybe he was unconcerned because he knew the fire was going to happen (or set it himself?) He’s so kind to the drawtectives that it makes me. Nervous. That’s not how things usually go…

See he's so charming that it completely distracted me from the fact he kept redirecting them from doing any actual investigation.

By the end of the episode we have no knowledge of:

Who had access to the roof.

People in the vicinity with access at the time of the incident.

Accelerants used and where they may have been acquired.

How quickly the fire was called in and by whom.

It's all well and good to say The Snake lit the fire, but we're trying to figure out who the snake is.

Kragor may very well be entirely innocent, just genuinely excited to engage in creative processes with new people, but given that they were supposedly let in to investigate the cause of the fire, the fact he distracted them from doing so is suspect.

As noted previously, there's no reason The Snake can't be more than one person.

HELLO HELLO ITS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH AGAIN!!! DRAWTECTIVES SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT :3

OKAY SO. THIS COULD MEAN NOTHING BUT I NOTICED SOMETHING.

So in episode 3, The Snake wrote all over the gallery on spray paint, right? And what’s noticeable about this is that 1) the writing is either in all caps or printed out and 2) The Snake’s signature has their name signed with a little snake as the S.

Now, the note in ep 5.

This is written with lowercase letters AND the signature doesnt have the little snake S. Which means either they’re just varying the way they write because handwriting differs when you’re not using spray paint….. or this wasn’t written by the Snake who vandalized the art gallery.

So are there multiple snakes? Is someone trying to throw the drawtectives off the path? Am I looking into this too deeply? WHO KNOWS!!!

I had attributed the all caps to it being easier to write that way in spray paint.

But the signature.

I genuinely had not noticed the little snake S.

But the fact the note is signed in all caps also,

It's a good way to obfuscate a signature.

There is absolutely no reason to assume that the snake is only one person, you are entirely correct.
