Exposing the truth about these amazingly loving, loyal, creatures. Dedicated to showing their real personalities, the sweet, docile, trainable, amazing companions they are and dispelling myths and social stigma through images and stories I find. Defending the rights of Gorda, who may not be technically mine but has definitely become my family. Gorda is a sweet, loving, 7ish year old red nose pitbull mix who's family lost their own forever home. Her new owner was faced with the threat of losing her due to an accidental altercation with another dog (who was leashed at the time but has a history of being aggressive and territorial) and general breed discrimination. She needs rehabilitation to be around other dogs off leash and we're working on that. She's definitely been used for fights and bred for fight dogs before and even spent a year living on the streets and in a stairwell before her old owners took her in. She's an absolute LOVE around people and no one's ever known her to attack or even growl at a person. Still, the old condo association wanted her euthanized because she's apparently somehow a more threatening breed than a pointer mix. When it came down to it, we left our home and found another where Gorda is welcome; even though it took 6 weeks of motel hopping to get there. The more I blog and look into defending Gorda, the more I see faces of this wonderful breed that, like her, deserve equal rights and treatment. The way people act towards pitbulls (and indeed all "aggressive" breeds) strikes me the same as when I see racism in people and it needs to stop. I will also post links to rescue organizations and dogs I see for adoption because I want to see everyone home with a loving family. Thanks for all the Gorda support so far! *All images are either mine, credited, or found on the internet and thus assumed to be in the public domain. Smokin’ Joe’s had an amazing Christmas (Pittmas?) & we hope you did too! Thanks everybody for joining us last holiday weekend; we love and appreciate all of you!
To those of you who haven’t come yet, we welcome you and look forward to meeting (and meating; fill you full of meats, it’s what we do) you when you’re in our neck of the woods!
#ThrowbackThursday to Xmas eve at #SmokinJoes #BBQ where we bribed MOUSE WITH BACON SHOTS (they keep those for dogs as it’s a dog friendly bbq) until he let us make him Santa <3
Last weekend’s Pig #roast #pigout was a true feast! We ran out of food well before 4pm, so thanks everyone for attending and pigging out with us!…..And keeping the bar packed well past 4 lol! We love you all!
Look how Mouse attentively “supervises” the cleaning of the Pig House and packaging of leftover meat shreds lol!
Lol <3 1 of my fave places to eat and 1 of my fave pitties (he’s just kisses, bacon, and obsessed w/chasing sticks-I <3 how dog friendly this place is since it makes me feel less socially awkward when I have dogs to hang out with. People make me so nervous sometimes I can’t leave the house for days & they help get me over agoraphobia (good food overrides it too); in FACT, this pitbull led me to both their bbq &their import shop
Me: Winter 2008 visiting from Rome, about a year before the "possible shadow" found in my brain at the age of 23 was diagnosed as a brain tumor. Shorty was the first therapy dog I was exposed to and a source of my strength during brain surgery #1.Me: Fall 2009, on another brief visit from Rome....
Happy Easter to all from, Me, Gordita! My mommy has posted about fundraisers on this page and many others before, but they’re almost always about helping us dogs. Helping rescue dogs gives her life purpose she tells me, and without her I definitely would’ve been put down by a “shelter” years ago. Because of her I’m now always warm and safe, I sleep on a very nice mattress, and I never have to worry where my next meal is coming from!
My mommy has been very sick for a long time though, and things are getting worse so she has to keep looking for health treatments and peace elsewhere. I’d really love to go on these adventures with her, and see her have a place of her own where I can live with her full-time again! It’s a large goal, but no amount is too small, even a share!
God bless everyone, and I hope you all have a pawsome day with your fur babies <3
This was my pure bread when he was just a puppy. His name was Grateful and he was perfect. I lost him about 8 years ago to cancer. When we had to put him down we had his paw put into modelling clay. Me and my dad both have his paw tattooed on us and mine is inside my left arm so that he’s always close to my heart. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I was coming home to him.
To the poster-thank you for sharing and bless his memory <3 This photo is adorable!
I lost the dog I grew up with for 15 happy years to cancer and that was over a decade ago, so I agree we never miss them any less. She had Grateful’s coloring, only she was a GSD mix.
Every $1 truly counts even if you can only donate $1 it is all very much appreciated!!!
Read the story below for Satan’s story :D
Hello Animal Lovers,
Max Munroe and I (Kim Tyborowski) are in need of some MAJOR help!
We are in need of donations for our sweetheart pup, Satan, an almost seven month old American Staffordshire Terrier, that needs urgent surgery. Max and I were so happy and lucky to find the most gentle, obedient yet playful pit! Don’t let his name fool you! Satan’s playfulness got him into his current position though about two months ago when he ran after his favorite bone and accidentally hurt himself by hitting his knee off our door frame. We took him for his first visit to his primary veterinarian and was given rimadyl, a common anti-inflammatory and we also decided to put him on a glucosamine supplement. The veterinarian said that we shouldn’t worry being that he is young and resilient.
About a month ago, we decided to take Satan to the local dog park here in State College, PA for his first time. He played his little heart out. We noticed that he was limping more than usual and decided to continue the rymadyl until he was neutered yesterday (Nov. 4th). Satan showed no signs of pain except for his limp. When we went into pick him up after his successful neuturing, our veterinarian explained that she felt a largely swollen, lump in his left, hind leg and that we needed to have him X-rayed.
Today (Nov. 5th) we heard some heartbreaking news from an orthopedic veterinarian, who was very honest with us. Dr. Mason explained that Satan had ruptured his anterior (cranial) cruciate ligament in his knee. We were given three options on surgery but nothing could actually help our poor pup. Dr. Mason was very honest with us in saying we need to see a specialist, in Pittsburgh, PA who is more trained with puppies in order to fix this knee issue. This is a common occurance with most older dogs but what makes Satan’s injury so rare is that any change in the knee can greatly effect the growth plates and cause the leg further problems if not surgically corrected the proper way.The cost of the entire surgery will be around $3-4,000 but ANY DONATION will help us tremedously!
We are in need of desperate help in funds to give Satan a happy and healthy life. We do not want to see him lose his quality of life at an early age. In an extreme case without surgery, Satan will be in unbearable pain and on medications for the rest of his life. We simply just can’t afford this expense as young adults and we definitely didn’t plan for this accident because really, who does?! It’s hard to believe that one day your puppy is chasing leaves and barking at the mailman and the next day he can’t even run up the steps.
With the help from donations, we know that we can help him get the adequate surgery that he will need.
Max and I love our puppy with all of our hearts and it upsets us to see Satan in pain.We thank everyone reading, sharing, liking and donating. To the people who know us best, they know Satan is our whole world and we would do anything to make sure he has the best, most comfortable life any dog could ever have.
Sincerely,
Max Munroe and Kim Tyborowski

To everyone who has helped with donations for Satan, we would like to say thank you! He finally got his surgery in Southern California. It has been a rough 24 hours so far but we are hoping that everything heals well. We are still trying to raise the money to pay off the surgery. Anything will help.
