Raymond Cauchetier, photographer who changed the way we saw films, dies in Paris.

Raymond Cauchetier, a French photographer who documented French New Wave directors and actors, has died. His photographs, taken mostly behind the scenes, captured the essence of the movement. His portraits of Jean Seberg, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and others captured their, dare I say, Je nest says quoi, intriguing the world to check out the films of the New Wave of directors, Jean Luc Godard, Francoise Truffaut, and Claude Chabrol.

Raymond Cauchetier put the bait on the hook and caught the world on his line. Thankfully the films were everything his photos promised.

I only recently learned who he was because most of the photographs I had clipped out of American film magazines were uncredited.

He died on Monday in Paris. He was 101.

The cause was Covid-19,

A note, Truffaut claimed that the New Wave would never have happened without the work of American's Ruth Orkin and Morris Engle, whose The Little Fugitive was their inspiration. It's a great short film that captures Brooklyn like you thought it was.

Or at least the Brooklyn, Morris Engle experienced growing up.

Just another note, Ruth Orkin, was a hell of a photographer and a real inspiration to me as well.

Hey there, this is the teaser, or as I like to call it, the bug for our new feature-length, documentary, Hello Dummy. Get ready, because here it comes!

I have a couple of words on this guy. 

I met him at the Riott House in L.A. I was stuck there by some record company, and he lived there. Every day he'd come down, around 1:00-2:00 pm, looking for his driver. Where they went, I never knew. Each day he had on a different, which I guess you could call outfits. It was a highlight of my day to see him march through the lobby. He was resplendent in bright colors, bold patterns, with a matching turban. Eventually, we'd nod a greeting, and this gave way to a mumbled hello. 

One day his car hadn't arrived. Traffic has always been an issue in Los Angeles. In a bit of a huff, he sat down next to me. "He knows when I get picked up." "Hmmm, Traffic," was my response. He complained about traffic, and I was stumped on what to say. So stupidly, I said, "that's a lovely turban..." "Lovely!?!" his upwardly gesturing hands, mimed the shape of the turban, "This, isn't lovely! I don't do lovely! This outfit is glorious!" I agreed. It was glorious. "Personally, I don't think I could pull off such a glorious outfit." He gave me the up and down, "It would take more than an outfit to make you glorious!" True. 

It still would. Mr. Penniman's car arrived, and off he went. A few days later, we bumped into each other by the elevators. Little Richard left me with three bits of advice, #1 Invest in some nice shoes. You can't build a building without a foundation. #2 Don't wear shorts unless you are going swimming. And finally, #3 Never, under any circumstance, wear Khakis. I try to follow the first rule, but built as I am,  for comfort rather than speed; numbers 2 and 3 are not really in my cards.

I’m visiting my uncle at the senior village and who do I find holding court? Jerry Mahoney! Telling tales of Hollywood and early Television. Some hilarious stories of KnuckleHead Smiff and his amazing romantic life with some of Hollywood’s most beautiful stars. I was just amazed that he was still around. Evidently, Paul Winchell invented an artificial heart and as long as you replace the batteries you could carry on forever. Just 2 AA batteries. Waterfall of the Fall creek, next to the ruins of the Ithaca Gun Company. Though Annie Oakley and John Phillip Sousa we’re big fans of their double barreled shot guns the company failed and all its materials were shipped to Sandusky, Ohio. The water fall provided the power for the plant but years of water run off containing extremely high levels of lead poisons the land and river below the falls. Though hundreds of thousands of tons of contaminated soil and rock were removed in the 1970s the water is still unsafe to drink and the land where the factory stood cannot be developed. Squirrel Facts: episode one

The eastern gray squirrel (most frequently seen east of the Mississippi River, which basically means the eastern half of North America or for our neighbors to the north, east of Lake Superior.) is best known for Its ability to plan for the future. A savings account for food. In the fall, the gray squirrel spends each day gathering nuts and seeds and hiding them so it will have enough food to last through the winter. This behavior is called "scatter hoarding." (Imagine your computer desktop)

The squirrel buries food in hundreds of different locations (if another squirrel or animal finds some of them, the rest will still remain). The squirrel cleans each nut or seed before it is hidden, which leaves their very own personal scent on each one so that the squirrel can find it later in the winter (even through a heavy blanket of snow). Which also means that when two squirrels meet this conversation often arises, “Dude, did you eat my nuts?” - - - “uh... me? Nah, I bumped into that Natalie squirrel and she had a mouth full of nuts, you know - mating season and all.” For younger humans this conversation might cause some giggles, but for squirrels they know exactly what nuts they are talking about.

Even with, “Scent tracking” not all nuts or seeds are recovered (since a squirrel saves more food than it needs). These abandoned nuts and seeds then grow into trees and a forest is grown (squirrels are responsible for planting more trees than all of humankind - so take that, Johnny Apple Seed!
