Horace SCANNED the vast GARDENS outside the house, watching an EMPTY suit of clothes without a BODY pass by him, which he later REALIZED was an INVISIBLE person. He then STARED at the GIGANTIC house, TALL and LOOMING over them. Perhaps it was even LARGER than his OLD mansion. He WHIRLED around to look at his ESCORT, the STRANGE girl in the LEADEN shoes. He’d never felt so ALIEN to a place, and yet he felt . . . at HOME, with people who were LIKE him.

Compared to the other peculiar, Horace was quite SMALL. The boy’s ocean blue eyes FIXED on Victor, full of WORRY and CONCERN. Victor was like an older brother to the peculiars, so why would he even think of LEAVING? He was perfectly HAPPY at the children’s home, or so it SEEMED. The smaller boy saw no reason why the other would want to LEAVE, considering the DANGERS that awaited him outside the loop.
