Okay, here goes. So I was watching R5 on R5 the other day (the one about The R5 Family) and came across this one moment, the first two gifs. At first I was like, oh hey’s that’s so cool, she tattooed an R5 lyric on her arm. But then I took a double take. I don’t know if any of you have ever noticed, but I sure did. As you can see, this girl has faint but visible enough scar marks on her arm. Scars. Cuts. And then I remembered this other moment from R5’s Q&A at Amsterdam, the last four gifs. It was about this girl telling Rydel that R5 saved her life, as you can see in the third gif. And then in the next three gifs, we have Ross’ reaction. The whole time, Rydel kept saying “Aww,” and “You guys are so sweet,” but that was it. She kept repeating those words because she obviously did not know what to say or how to react to something like that. Ross, on the other hand, was shocked at first. But then he made this expression that I can’t quite describe. Rydel then asked Riker to hug the girl, which he did instantly, Ross doing the same even though he wasn’t asked to. Rocky and Ellington wanted to as well, but couldn’t, because they were too far.
Point being, these are only two of the girls that R5 has saved. But imagine, a girl or boy out there, all alone, ready to give up, feeling like life isn’t worth it. Then s/he finds this one family band from California/Colorado. S/he listens to them, watches a few interviews, looks at a few pictures, and all the rest. Life gets a little better after that. Or a whole lot better. This band just so happened to have saved this person’s fucking life.
I am, honestly, not afraid to say this out loud. I am one of those people. There were days for me in which the world felt like it was ending, and no matter how much optimism I try to obtain, it was just not working. But I saw these group of people and my life changed after that. All I’m saying is, they probably don’t know it themselves, but the effect they have on people can be so powerful. So, R5 Family, I just want to take this chance to give you all a big virtual hug. It might not be a real one, but I just want you to know that I’m here if you need me. I’ll always be. And we can continue on with this journey, together with R5.
Because that one family band from California is one of the reasons we stay happy. And they are one of the reasons why we look forward to waking up the next day.
