I gotta say this, but I don’t really blame Merlin for Morgana’s descent into villainy.
Why?
First of all, Merlin was a young, inexperienced sorcerer in hiding, that too right under the noses of the royals of Camelot, the very people who could have him executed with just one sentence. Now, put yourself in his shoes.
You meet Morgana, a beautiful lady, who discovers that she has magic. But all her life, she had been taught to despise it, to fear it, and her own initial reaction to it at first was hatred and fear. She is also emotionally volatile, and may outburst. Why would you tell her? She is a high ranking noble, unlike you, a lowly manservant, so if she ever accidentally reveals your secret in a fit of rage, you’d be executed. Of course, you wouldn’t want to die. Also, Morgause manipulated her hatred and fear of Uther and the wounds he created, rather than focusing on her alienation. Merlin tried to help her as best as he could without revealing his magic, such as when he told her to go to the Druids to learn more about her magic, so he did try to help ease her isolation. He also saved her life, going against the Dragon’s warnings, because he thought of her a friend. His actions were never born of malice or hatred; but rather out of love and understanding, even if at times it were agonising.
And what about the time he poisoned her? Well, for anyone who’s watched the show, I’m pretty sure they know the context; Morgause had put a spell on Camelot, which would put everyone to eternal sleep and kill them with Morgana as the anchor. The choice was either to kill Morgause, which was impossible at the time, or to kill the vessel, aka, Morgana. Had he not poisoned her, the entirety of Camelot would die. He clearly didn’t want to do it, but he had no choice. You could see the pain, guilt, and heartbreak in his eyes while doing it.
So, it was Uther’s intense hatred of magic and Morgause’s manipulation that led her to the dark side, not Merlin not telling her an incredibly vulnerable secret of his that likely wouldn’t have changed her course, but may have instead made him an easier target.
Okay, but why has no one considered the possibility that maybe Arthur doesn’t lift the ban on magic, but Guinevere does?
Like, I’m imaging that after Merlin returns to Camelot after Arthur’s death, they’re all grief stricken, but after a while, Gwen calls Merlin, and discusses with him for a while. She doesn’t blame him for Arthur’s death. She knows it was inevitable. He is, after all, the “Once and Future King”. She tells him how she knows that he has magic, and he admits it. But she’s not mad. No, not at all. She decides to lift the ban on magic, and asks him about his thoughts. He says something like, “I was born with magic. It was never a choice for me. I didn’t choose to have powers that I’d need to keep hidden lest someone finds out and persecutes me. I agree with you”, and he tells her about that line he said as the Dolma, that “There is no evil in magic; only in the hearts of men” or something like that, and she’s surprised cause how do you know that, you weren’t even there, you were being held captive by her, and then he reveals that he was the Dolma all along, and then they laugh about the fact that he was a woman, and then they lift the ban, and magic users can live freely in Camelot, now Albion. He reunites the powers of the old world, and the new.
I also like to imagine that she’s like a badass swordswoman, and when she goes out to fight, she takes Merlin with her, cause you never know when you need a hot adorable sorcerer in battle with you, and he just protects her from the evil sorcerers. Like, I’m imagining some evil magic users just taking her sword from her with their magic, and saying how they could take her clothes off the same way, making her uncomfortable. But they don’t realise that that seemingly weak little “servant” beside her is Emrys, the most powerful sorcerer to walk the Earth, and he’s boiling with rage, cause wtf, how dare you threaten my bestie and make her uncomfortable, and just strips them of their armour, leaving them in their underwears (bonus points if it’s winter), and uses said armour to beat them up, and they’re just being whacking by flying pieces of armour. And they’re trying to counter it with their own magic, but his magic is too powerful for them. They don’t even realise that he’s Emrys, but once they see how weak and pathetic they are against him, they ask “You’re Emrys?” and he just fucking owns it, like “Yeah, duh”, and they’re all like, please forgive me, I didn’t realise, but Merlin’s just like, y’all sexualised my bestie, fuck no. She lifted the ban and helped you lead free lives, and this is what you do to her? And he just takes Gwen’s sword from them and returns it to her, then crumples their own swords and pushes them back with his magic, leaving them unconscious.
I desperately need something like this, and this is canon, fight me.
the difference between how different characters perceive nico is so freaking funny
The cast of the argo II during MoA/HoH to nico: Who. Who tf are you. Why are you so terrifying. Are you human. He’s going to kill us in our sleep. Why is his sword emo.
hazel: yes that is my brother 🥰 he is absolutely delightful 🥰 he’s so scrawny lmao lemme get him an apple
jason: in the nicest way possible, have you ever considered going to therapy?
percy: WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN A JAR GET OUTTA THERE YOU CRAWL FASTER IM TRYING TO RESCUE YOU YOU LITTLE SHIT IF YOU DIE RIGHT NOW I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU
Honestly, Percy and Nico’s relationship is hilarious. They be like:
Percy: Nico, let me take care of you! You have to take a shower! You’ve been outside for months!
Nico: No, I won’t!
And it’s literally like; I will either kill YOU🔪, or I will kill FOR you🥰
Okay, I’m sorry, but I’ve got to get it out of me. Percy does not hate Nico. Nor does Nico anymore. And Percy never, and I mean never, treated Nico unfairly, or with apathy. He may think so, but he didn’t. Percy said that he sort of sounded like his mom to Nico in The Titan’s Curse. And we know how amazing of a mom Sally Jackson is. Percy decided to take on the weight of a whole dam prophecy. For Nico. Percy was so worried for Nico when he went missing, that Bianca had to reach out from the Underworld to help him. Sure, he got angry at Nico sometimes, but only two times. Both were reasonable. Percy and Nico were both manipulated by Hades, so the first time was technically Hades’ fault. The second time, well, if someone decided not to tell me who I was when I was an amnesiac, I’d be pretty mad too. And Percy just thought of wringing Nico’s neck, he didn’t actually do it. Plus, Percy never believed that Nico was dead in MoA, and the only person who whom he believed for like that was Annabeth, so it’s obvious that he does love him like a little brother. And when Percy saw Nico for real, out of the Bronze Jar, his heart stopped. It may not be literal, but the sight of him like that hurt him so much, he felt like that. Plus, he wanted to rush over and check whether he was alive or not, but couldn’t otherwise, well, the giants. Also, Percy only allowed Nico to call him “Seaweed Brain”, other than Annabeth, as seen in Un Natale Mezzosangue. When Alex and Thalia called him that, he reprimanded them. Not for Nico. Also, when Percy saw him in TSATS, he was ecstatic to see him. Also, Nico himself stated that when Percy had invited him for cake and ice cream in BoTL, he felt a spark of true friendship. And Nico even went to his house with Will for advice. Like, if that is not the most brotherly thing ever between brothers, then I don’t know what is. In TLO, Percy also used his wish from the gods essentially to help Nico, and give him a home. Never, and I mean never, forget that.
Edit: Also, in MOA, Percy was right by Hazel’s side on saving Nico. He legit said that ‘Nico certainly didn’t deserve to die’. Also, when they had to pay tribute to Dionysus, it was more of a choice between Nico and 6 million. He could have chosen to keep all the money, and not pay tribute to one of his least favourite gods EVER. Instead, he decided to help save Nico by paying the tribute, and thus getting the gods help to defeat Otis and Ephialtes.
Nico: The Ocean is a soup.
Percy:
Percy: Do elaborate.
Nico: What are needed for something to be a soup?
Percy: Erm... Water, salt, some form of vegetation, and personally I prefer some meat in mine.
Nico: *Tilts head*
Percy: The Ocean is a Soup.
Nico: The Ocean is a Soup.

Oh my gods guys!!! I just realised, Will Solace, Nico’s boyfriend, son of Apollo, his full name is William Andrew Solace. So, what are his initials? WAS, Will’s initials are WAS. Rick really had his moments, didn’t he?
