I think in the wake of the Isla Vista shooting, it's important to note that this is a cultural issue. The shooter's (Elliot's) opinions are in no way unique or necessarily rare, which makes this an issue for society at large rather than one warped mind. The problem is not that all men act or think in this way, everyone reasonable knows that already. However, it is that Elliot's opinions were never challenged, rather they were reinforced by like minded individuals while the majority remained silent. Cultural extremes will remain possible while we allow them to, and men specifically need to make it clear what behaviour they find acceptable from their peers. We are as much builders as built by the culture we live in, and it's important to remember that.
