“You cannot understand what it is like being newly married, desperately wanting to be a good wife, all the while feeling constantly inadequate, like there is something wrong with me.”
I don’t think the Bridgerton writers could’ve summed up comphet better than in this scene with this exact wording. The fact that Francesca KNOWS that something is not right but can’t put her finger on it.
I love that they didn’t portray Francesca as completely clueless in her journey to where she is going to end up in season 5, this pre-build up, especially this scene, shows that she is fully AWARE that her feelings for John, her marriage, her expectations for herself don’t line up with what they should be.
Even though it’s so painful to watch as a queer person because it hits too close to home, this anger Francesca feels is basically repression before she even realizes what is going on with herself. Some sort of shield protecting herself.
And the fact that she vents to Michaela about this is probably because she can feel that Michaela possesses some type of freedom that Francesca doesn’t have and it works so freaking well because they’re basically two sides of the same coin.
The scene where Francesca will come to realization in season 5 will probably be so beautiful, i genuinely can’t wait for the new season.
Franchaela my darlings you’re so nuanced and so beautifully written.
BRIDGERTON
Season 5 | Official Announcement
getting a queer female led happily ever after story in the most popular formulaic straight romance tv show right now is huge actually
Next season, love begins again.
franchaela in bridgerton s03 → s04 → s05
Love begins again
Homophobia is so weird because wdymmm you saw Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza with the knowledge that they were gonna HUNCH on our screens in the near future, and the response was outrage?????
Homophobes don’t have their priorities together, and it SHOWS
HANNAH DODD as Francesca Bridgerton S04E03 | The Field Next to the Other Road
The height difference. The staring. Francesca stressing. Michaela serving face. John. This food is so fucking GOOD LOIS

idk what we’ll actually see in canon but the idea of francesca losing control, in any way, because of michaela is soooo good, that woman derails her
francesca is known to her family and the viewers as being almost perfect, she’s composed and neat and everything that’s expected of a woman in her society, sure she’s from an extremely privileged family, but by all accounts she’s… boring, calm and collected, chosing a good but not very interesting husband within the expected rank, not a big role in her family, not the most or least loved, she’s just… there, she has trouble understanding people but does well enough, doesn’t raise her voice or argue much even when she disagrees
but then michaela enters her life and that composure is derailed, michaela and francesca have had two scenes together and we’ve already seen frannie do things we’re not used to, she has to gulp and catch her breath and really work to remain in control, this just happens when they exchange two sentences together, literally
imagine what will happen when michaela touches her, says something she’s not supposed to say, comes a little too close, the neat, composed perfect child will unravel, she will get angry, upset, she’ll blush and stutter and scream and lose control
she’ll feel extreme highs and lows for the first time in her life and she won’t understand, her family won’t understand and wonder why francesca of all people is losing it, but one day francesca will get it and that process will be such a satisfying watch
Legend has it that if you say "Good Luck Babe" three times in front of a mirror, Hannah Dodd appears behind you and tells you she wants it in Bridgerton because she thinks it makes sense for Francesca
francesca’s book isn’t totally about second love, it’s about the guilt of a second love. it’s not that she has trouble moving on at all, it’s the fact that she wants to move on with john’s cousin. the major conflict isn’t isn’t “if,” it’s “who.” so the guilt factor being extrapolated into a sapphic story and the second love factor being given to violet makes so much sense to anyone with 3 braincells
Yea, I'm sorry, I want Francesca to be a little homophobic. Idk how to explain it coherently, but as we know, Francesca is very "these are the rules of society, this is how a Lady should act, this is what a Lady should want, these are the expectations of a Lady" how she has internalized these standards that she holds herself to. So, for Michaela to walk in and throw that shit out the window, she gets angry for lack of a better word. (From interviews with Hannah, I think this is kind of the way we're going) she loves John, so she won't say it out loud but the Stirlings are not dumb they'll put the pieces together and maybe Michaela confronts her about it and that how they finally talk about it and move past it towards their friendship before everything happens.
Don't yell at me if you don't agree. I love discussing theories.
it's the mutual yearning for me
