  ❛ and short. this is the first time i’ve not been able to reach the top shelves in about -thirteen hundred years. there’s an omnivise up there. blockish, kind ‘a rough like… - like sandpaper, but less grating. ❜ there’s also one two shelves down, but the doctor’s nothing if not stubborn. and she’s going to keep stretching for it.

Aleister sees the item’s copy on a lower shelf. Reaches out to retrieve it and to brandish it in full sight, “Like the one right here, maybe?” Her expression is dead-pan, but there’s tones of amusement to her voice as she offers the omnivise to the Doctor. As a mutant, Aleister’s known shape-shifters before. It’s not really anything new, but, “Can you not control what you look like?”

It’s been a long night, just shy of eleven-thirty as Aleister Martel drags herself into the bar. Dressed from head to toe in exclusively black clothing, she’s a small thing. Barely two inches over five feet and pushing just past a hundred pounds. Silver jewelry in her face; rings through her bottom lip, septum, nostril and eyebrow. Perhaps not as noticeable in comparison to a bruising eye and a swollen lip, but with her hood up and uneven black hair hanging in her face she wagers the marks aren’t too conspicuous. 

She slides into an empty stool at the bar and orders a whiskey, neat. She’s sore, and tired in a way that means she won’t sleep without some assistance. But there’s money in her pocket, the promise of rent paid and the more important knowing of where her next fix is coming from.

Her drink arrives and Aleister keeps to herself.

It’s rare for Nolan to be home these days, and even rarer for them to spend any amount of time together. Aleister’s been trying her best to keep her too-clingy nature stemming from a fear of abandonment from smothering him, doing her best to give him space and distance. It’s been hard, but she thinks she’s managing.

So, she’s surprised when he joins her on the couch while she watches David Lynch’s reimagining of the television show Twin Peaks. They sit in silence, but side by side with a shared blanket over their laps. Aleister even dares to hold his hand for a time. But a couple episodes in and she starts to grow weary from the night’s lateness and the moderate amount of mixed alcoholic drinks she’s had, starting to nod off and slip in and out of consciousness. 

She finally dozes, and asleep doesn’t notice the way she curls up against Nolan’s side with her head against his arm.

It’s been months. Months since she’s seen or heard from Aleister. Yes, Rain can’t really be mad because she’s left Aleister many times before. Taken every possible opportunity to extract herself from this situation, but they’ve always ended up back together. Every fucking time. 

But she’d thought it was finally done. Apparently, she was wrong again. She’s looking at her ex, and the way she’s standing there with her knuckles white gripping onto her bag, and Rain feels a familiar stab in her chest. She’s never been the drugs kind, really. But she knows that feeling of being completely fucking lost. Her response is usually rage, though. There’s something pitiful about that. There’s something pitiful about this, too.

The goth doesn’t say anything. She steps aside, door still open, and shrugs. It’s an invitation. Stay, or leave. It’s not like she’s going to chase after Aleister. But she isn’t going to turn her away either. 

Honestly, Aleister hadn’t expected Rain to comply. She has no reason to, not with the way things ended between them, and not with the way they’ve fallen completely out of touch. Seems no matter what happens, they just can’t get away from each other. The thought is as comforting as it it unsettling.

She slinks into Rain’s home, ashamed to be seen this way. She hates to be at the mercy of other people, and at the same time doesn’t want to feel like she’s taking advantage of anybody. Right now, she feels like both and she hates it.

“Thank you,” she murmurs quietly once inside. She stands in one spot, not wanting to get water everywhere. “...Can I borrow some clothes?”

He saw her relax, at least a little. He had an intuition that she rarely relaxed very much. Tension seemed to be a part of her. It was alluring, in a way. It sharpened his desire to cuddle and soothe her.

He nodded. “That’s fair.” Diapers were a hard limit for a lot of people, so he was pleased she had an open mind on the subject. He was sure others would be done with him simply for asking.

“I planned to keep it fairly low key for the first session. I have a room in the hotel across the street. I thought we could start by giving you a bath. Then I could hold you and tell you a story.” It took a measure of self-command to say that out loud without faltering. He wasn’t usually so open about the childish things he wanted to do. But he believed firmly that shame was a waste of time. They were both there for the same reason, so there was no point in being evasive. “It’s a loose outline. I’m amenable to any additions that might interest you.”

“A bath sounds nice,” Aleister informs him. Relaxing and soothing, both of which she could use these days. She is a little nervous about disrobing in front of him, but she knows that will pass once her clothes are off. She’s always nervous about showing her body, even with steady lovers.

Speaking of steady lovers, she’s never had one bathe her or bathe with her. Aleister has struggled with intimacy issues for some time now, and she’s not sure why she’s finding the idea of exploring that with a stranger more appealing than with somebody she knows. Perhaps she feels less judged.

“I like stories, too. Were you wanting to start right away?”

“We can skip the feeding,” he agreed. Food was a profoundly sensitive subject. That was why it was erotic to him, because letting someone feed you was an act of deep trust. But he more than understood why Aleister might not be comfortable with it, especially given their new acquaintance.

“I’m not interested in sex today,” he said. “Perhaps later, depending on how we both feel.” He felt the possibility of sex would add unnecessary pressure to their interaction. He didn’t want Aleister to worry about impressing or seducing him. What he really wanted was to hold someone, to protect and care for her, if only for a short time. He craved the oxytocin rush of nurturing. “What’s your opinion of diapers?”

Aleister recalls their discussing no sex on the first meeting, but hearing Hannibal say it out-loud helps put some remaining nerves to rest. “That makes me feel more comfortable,” she admits genuinely, some of the tension stored in her shoulders visibly easing away. 

He seems reasonable. Kind, yet firm. Exactly what she thinks she may be looking for. “I don’t know about diapers. But I think I’d be willing to try. We’d have to see how I feel.” She doesn’t mean to be evasive or difficult, but she’s new to all of this. Though Hannibal seems more than capable to guide her through it.

“Did you have anything in particular you want to do? Or are we just winging it?”

It’s pouring down rain outside. Flashing lightning and rumbling thunder join the sounds of water pelting the apartment’s shoddy roof. The metal roof makes the storm sound far worse than it actually is, but Aleister likes the sound of it. It’s like being wrapped in soothing noise.

She’s physically wrapped in an old, worn blanket draped over thin shoulders, her head resting upon Riley’s own shoulder. There’s a rare smile on her face and she’s quiet; all cozy and snuggly.

“Yeah,” Aleister murmurs in reply. ‘Just don’t think about it’. If only it were that easy. She’s in abject agony. Her entire body-- her muscles, her fucking bones hurt. She can’t stop shaking and sweating, nor can she hold anything down without vomiting. That isn’t even going into the anxiety and crippling depression she keeps experiencing. Bouts of uncontrollable weeping. And all she has to do to stop all of it is use.

It’s a nightmare, and she’s trapped in it.

“I’m literally in hell.”
