Where the Heart Went Back Home 2
Pair: Becky Lynch X Finn BalorĀ
Plot: Becky and Roux join Finn at Waffle House after a hard day, where Rouxās silly chocolateānose boops and Finnās gentle teasing finally make Becky smile again. A small group of kids asks Becky for photos, and Finn quietly watches her be warm and patient with them.Seeing how tired she is, Finn invites Becky and Roux to stay at his house for the night. Roux is ecstatic during the house tour but gets sleepy, so Becky tucks her into the guestĀ room. Later, Finn brings Becky Barryās Tea and Tayto crisps ā things she loved in Ireland ā and she opens up about what happened with Seth. Finn comforts her, then plays old videos from their Ireland days, and Becky eventually leans into him for quiet, familiar comfort.
okay so um⦠this part was really soft to write?? like itās just becky finally breathing again and finn being that quiet steady comfort she hasnāt had in forever. and i had āI Wonāt Give Upā by Jason Mraz playing the whole time because the vibe fits perfectly ā that gentle, loyal, nostalgic energy that matches their ireland memories and the way finn shows up for her without pushing.
this chapter is basically becky remembering who she used to be⦠and who she still is. and finn being the one person who never stopped seeing her.
hope yāall love it ā” š„ŗā¤ļø
Beckyās voice was still hanging in the air, soft and shaky:
āTonight just got a whole lot more interesting.ā
Finnās smile widened just a little ā warm, familiar, the kind that made Beckyās chest tighten in a way she hadnāt felt in years.
āAlright then,ā he said, tapping the table lightly, āBecks, Roux⦠sit. Eat with me.ā
Roux didnāt need to be told twice. She slid right back into the booth beside Finn, practically bouncing. Becky sat across from them, still trying to steady her breathing after everything that had happened.
The waitress dropped off their plates ā waffles, hash browns, bacon, chocolate milk for Roux, coffee for Becky.
Roux immediately dipped her finger in her chocolate milk⦠then reached up and booped Finnās nose with it.
Roux giggled. āYou got chocolate on your face!ā
Finn wiped his nose dramatically. āOh no! Who did that?!ā
Roux squealed as Finn reached over and tickled her sides, making her laugh so loud Becky had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing too.
Becky watched them ā watched Rouxās joy, watched Finnās gentleness, watched the way he made her daughter feel safe without even trying.
And for the first time in days⦠Becky smiled.
He didnāt say anything.
A group of little kids ā maybe six or seven years old ā approached the booth, wideāeyed and whispering.
One girl stepped forward. āUm⦠excuse me⦠are you Becky Lynch?ā
Becky blinked, then softened immediately. āHi sweetheart.ā
āCan we have a picture?ā another asked, clutching a tiny notebook.
Becky slid out of the booth, crouching down to their level. āOf course you can.ā
She took pictures, signed napkins and notebooks, asked each kid their name, told one girl she loved her sparkly shoes, told another she had the coolest dinosaur backpack sheād ever seen.
The kids giggled and hugged her before running back to their parents.
Finn watched the whole thing ā the way Becky made time for them, the way she smiled even though her heart was breaking, the way she knelt down so the kids wouldnāt feel small.
Roux tugged Finnās sleeve. āMommyās really nice.ā
Finn nodded, eyes still on Becky. āShe always has been.ā
Becky returned to the booth, cheeks pink from smiling. āSorry. They were sweet.ā
Finn shook his head. āDonāt apologize. Thatās who you are.ā
Becky looked down, flustered.
Roux whispered loudly, āFinn was staring at you.ā
Beckyās eyes widened. āRouxāā
Finn laughed softly. āSheās observant.ā
Finn leaned forward, elbows on the table, voice gentle.
āYou donāt have to go back to that house tonight.ā
Becky swallowed. āFinnāā
He shook his head, steady and warm. āYou and Roux can stay with me. Just for tonight. Just until things settle.ā
Roux gasped. āWeāre going to Finnās house?!ā
Finn smiled. āIf your mommy says yes.ā
Becky looked at Roux ā hopeful, exhausted, still a little puffyāeyed ā then at Finn, who looked at her like she wasnāt a burden, wasnāt a problem, wasnāt too much.
Just someone he cared about.
She exhaled slowly. āYeah. Okay. Weāll stay.ā
Roux squealed, bouncing in her seat.
Finn smiled ā soft, relieved, warm.
āAlright then,ā he said, standing and grabbing the check. āLetās go home.ā
And Becky felt it ā that quiet, familiar pull in her chest.
The one she hadnāt let herself feel in years.
The one that felt like Ireland.
The one that felt like Finn.
Finn held the door open for Becky and Roux as they stepped out of Waffle House, the warm lights glowing behind them. Roux practically skipped across the parking lot, her little dinosaur backpack bouncing with every step.
Finn unlocked the car, and Roux gasped like sheād just discovered treasure.
āMommy! Finn has a COOL car!ā
Finn laughed. āItās just a car, Little Champ.ā
āNo,ā Roux insisted, climbing into the backseat, āitās cool because you drive it.ā
Becky shook her head, sliding into the passenger seat. āSheās obsessed with you.ā
Finn glanced at her, eyes soft. āI donāt mind.ā
He started the engine, and the soft hum filled the quiet night. Becky leaned her head against the window, watching the streetlights blur past, her chest still tight from everything that had happened.
Roux, meanwhile, was having the time of her life.
āFinn, do you have snacks at your house?ā
Finn smiled through the rearview mirror. āProbably.ā
Roux gasped dramatically. āFinn, you need a dog.ā
Becky snorted. āDonāt encourage her.ā
Finn chuckled. āMaybe someday.ā
Roux kicked her feet happily. āCan I see your room? And your couch? And your fridge? And your swords?ā
Finn blinked. āMy what?ā
Becky sighed. āShe thinks every wrestler has swords.ā
Finn laughed. āWell⦠I do have one. But itās decorative.ā
Roux squealed. āYOU HAVE A SWORD?!ā
Finn shook his head, amused. āYouāre not touching it.ā
Roux crossed her arms. āIām gonna look at it.ā
Finn grinned. āYouāre just like your mom.ā
Beckyās cheeks warmed. āDonāt start.ā
As they turned onto Finnās street, Roux finally settled, her voice softening.
āYeah, Little Champ?ā
āThank you for letting us stay.ā
Finnās hands tightened on the steering wheel ā not in stress, but in something gentler.
āYouāre always welcome with me,ā he said quietly.
Roux smiled, leaning back in her seat. āMommy said tonight is interesting.ā
Finn glanced at Becky again ā that soft, warm look she remembered from Ireland.
āIt is,ā he murmured. āIt really is.ā
Becky didnāt look away this time.
Finn pulled into his driveway, the porch light glowing softly. Roux gasped again.
āMommy! Finnās house looks like a movie!ā
Finn laughed. āItās just a house.ā
āNo,ā Roux insisted, āitās cool because you live in it.ā
Becky smiled ā tired, but real.
Finn stepped out and opened the back door, lifting Roux out of her seat. She wrapped her arms around his neck automatically, her curls brushing his cheek.
Becky watched them ā watched her daughter cling to Finn like heād been part of her life forever, watched Finn hold her like it was the most natural thing in the world.
And something in Beckyās chest shifted.
Finn set Roux down gently. āCome on. Letās get inside.ā
Becky followed behind them, heart pounding, unsure what tonight meant but knowing one thing for certain:
Her daughter felt safe with Finn.
And maybe⦠she did too.
Finn unlocked the front door and stepped inside first, flipping on the lights. His house was warm, cozy, livedāin ā exactly the kind of place Becky expected him to have. Roux gasped like sheād just walked into Disneyland.
āMommy! Finn has candles! And plants! And a big couch! Andāā
Finn laughed. āCome on, Little Champ. Iāll show you around.ā
Roux grabbed his hand immediately, her tiny fingers wrapped around his. Becky followed behind them, watching the way Roux practically floated with excitement.
Finn pointed around the space. āThis is the living room. Couch, TV, bookshelf⦠and no, you canāt touch the sword.ā
Rouxās eyes widened. āYou DO have a sword!ā
Finn sighed. āDecorative. Very decorative.ā
Roux giggled and moved on, already distracted by the soft wool blanket draped over the couch.
Finn led them into the kitchen next. Roux gasped again.
āMommy look! He has a fridge with water in the door!ā
Finn smiled. āYou want some?ā
Roux nodded, so Finn filled a tiny cup and handed it to her. She took a sip, then immediately leaned forward and booped Finnās nose with her wet finger.
Finn blinked, then tickled her sides. āOh no! Who did that?!ā
Roux squealed, laughing so hard she nearly dropped her cup.
Becky leaned against the counter, watching them ā watching Finn crouch down to Rouxās level, watching her daughter glow with happiness, watching the gentleness she hadnāt seen in years.
Finn continued the tour, Roux skipping beside him, Becky trailing behind.
āThis is the hallway,ā Finn said. āBathroomās there. My roomās at the end.ā
Roux peeked inside each doorway, her energy slowly fading. Her steps got smaller. Her eyes got heavier. Her little hand tightened around Beckyās fingers.
Finn glanced back. āSheās getting sleepy.ā
Becky nodded. āItās been a long day.ā
Finn pushed open a door. āAnd this is the guest room. You two can stay here tonight.ā
Roux wandered inside, rubbing her eyes. āItās prettyā¦ā
Becky stepped in behind her, brushing her daughterās curls back. āCome here, baby.ā
Roux didnāt argue. She lifted her arms, and Becky scooped her up, her little head dropping instantly onto Beckyās shoulder.
Finn watched quietly ā not intruding, not offering to take her, just giving Becky space to be her daughterās safe place.
Becky laid Roux gently on the bed, pulling the soft blanket over her. Roux curled up immediately, clutching her dinosaur plush.
Becky whispered, āGoodnight, sweetheart.ā
Finn stood in the doorway, voice low. āSheās out.ā
Becky nodded, brushing Rouxās cheek one last time before stepping back.
Finn flicked off the lamp, leaving the room in a warm glow.
Becky stepped out, closing the door softly behind her. Finn was waiting, hands in his pockets, eyes gentle.
āSheās comfortable,ā he said quietly.
Becky exhaled. āYeah. She is.ā
Finn nodded toward the living room. āCome sit for a minute. You look like you need to breathe.ā
She followed him down the hall, feeling something settle in her chest ā something she hadnāt felt in a long, long time.
Finn led Becky into the living room, the soft lamp light warming the space. Becky sat on the couch, pulling her knees up, still processing everything that had happened in the last twentyāfour hours.
Finn disappeared into the kitchen for a moment.
Becky stared at the wall, breathing slowly, trying to keep herself from unraveling.
He set a small plate and a mug on the coffee table in front of her.
Becky blinked. āFinn⦠whatās this?ā
Finn sat beside her, not too close, not too far. āSomething you used to love back home.ā
A steaming mug of Barryās Tea.
And a little bag of Tayto crisps ā cheese and onion, the exact kind she used to rave about in Ireland.
āFinn⦠you kept these?ā
Finn shrugged lightly. āI order them sometimes. Makes me feel like homeās not so far away.ā
Becky swallowed hard, her eyes stinging. āI havenāt had Barryās Tea in⦠God, years.ā
Finn nudged the mug toward her. āDrink. Itāll help.ā
She wrapped her hands around the cup, inhaling the familiar scent ā warm, earthy, comforting. It hit her like a memory she didnāt know she still had.
She whispered, āThank you.ā
Finn nodded. āAlways.ā
They sat quietly for a moment, the soft hum of the house filling the silence.
Then Finn spoke, voice low and gentle.
āBecks⦠what happened with you and Seth?ā
Becky stared at the tea, her fingers tightening around the mug.
āIt wasnāt one thing,ā she said softly. āIt was⦠everything. Slow. Quiet. Constant.ā
Becky took a shaky breath. āWe stopped talking. We stopped laughing. We stopped being us. And last night⦠when I texted you⦠Seth saw something he didnāt want to admit.ā
Finnās jaw tightened, but he stayed still.
Beckyās voice cracked. āHe saw that I cared. That I always cared. And he couldnāt handle it.ā
Finn swallowed. āBecksā¦ā
She shook her head. āI wasnāt cheating. I wasnāt doing anything wrong. But Seth saw the truth before I did.ā
Finnās eyes softened. āAnd what truth is that?ā
Becky looked at him ā really looked ā her voice barely a whisper.
āThat part of me never stopped loving Ireland. And part of me never stopped loving you.ā
Finnās breath caught, but he didnāt move. Didnāt push. Didnāt take advantage.
He just sat there, steady and warm.
āIām sorry,ā he said quietly. āIām sorry you had to go through all of that.ā
Becky wiped her cheek. āIām sorry too.ā
Finn leaned back slightly, giving her space but not distance. āYou didnāt deserve any of that pain.ā
Becky looked down at the tea again, her voice soft. āI donāt know who I am right now.ā
Finn nodded. āThen let me help you remember.ā
Becky closed her eyes, letting the warmth of the tea and Finnās presence settle into her chest like something sheād been missing for years.
Roux was asleep in the guest room.
And Becky sat curled on Finnās couch, holding the mug of Barryās Tea heād made her, letting the warmth settle into her chest.
āWait here,ā he said softly.
Becky blinked. āFinnā?ā
But he was already walking down the hall.
She sat there, confused, sipping her tea, listening to the soft creak of a cabinet opening. A minute later, Finn returned with something tucked under his arm.
A small, old external hard drive.
āFinn⦠is thatā?ā
He nodded, sitting beside her. āI kept everything.ā
He plugged it into the TV, scrolled through folders labeled Bray Gym, Training 2011, Indie Shows, Ireland, and one simply labeled Becks.
Beckyās chest tightened.
It was grainy, shaky ā clearly filmed on an old phone.
Becky, nineteen, hair wild, laughing as she tried to run the ropes.
Finn, younger too, holding the camera, teasing her.
āYouāre leaning too far forward, Becks!ā
āIām TRYING!ā she yelled, laughing.
Finn laughed so hard the camera shook.
Becky threw a glove at him.
On the couch, present-day Becky covered her face. āOh my God, turn it off.ā
Finn smiled. āNot a chance.ā
Becky and Finn sitting on the floor of the Bray gym, sweaty, exhausted, eating Tayto crisps straight from the bag.
Becky nudged him. āYouāre not sharing.ā
Finn nudged back. āYouāre not asking.ā
Becky laughed ā that bright, unburdened laugh she hadnāt heard from herself in years.
Present-day Becky swallowed hard. āI forgot about that night.ā
Finnās voice softened. āI didnāt.ā
Finn hesitated before clicking the next one.
Becky recognized it instantly.
The night after their first kiss at the train station.
Becky sitting on Finnās couch in Bray, hoodie too big, cheeks pink, talking about her dreams ā WWE, championships, wanting to make her family proud.
Finn filmed her quietly, smiling behind the camera.
āYouāre gonna do all of that,ā he said in the video.
Becky looked up shyly. āYou think so?ā
On the couch now, Beckyās eyes filled. āFinnā¦ā
Becky set her tea down, wiping her cheek. āI donāt even remember half of these.ā
Finnās voice was low. āI remember all of them.ā
Becky exhaled shakily, leaning back against the couch. āI feel like Iāve been carrying so much for so long.ā
Finn nodded. āThen put it down for a minute.ā
She just shifted closer ā slow, gentle ā until her shoulder brushed his arm.
Finn froze for half a second, then relaxed, letting her lean into him without making it weird, without making it romantic, without making it anything except what she needed.
Becky rested her head lightly against his shoulder.
He just let her be there.
Let her remember who she used to be.
