Jumper

A fic written for the 2019 @planceminibang​​. You can read it on AO3 here!

Summary:  Winning the ten-thousand-year war and cleansing the Galra Empire of Haggar’s influence had come at great cost to the Voltron Coalition: Paladin Lance of the Blue Lion was lost. In her grief and ingenuity, Pidge constructed a device that could help send the Paladins’ memories across space-time to the past in order to prevent the tragedy. Here’s the thing, though: only Pidge’s memories made it back in time. Here’s another thing, too: Lance seemed to really, really want to stay dead.

Once a promising fighter pilot candidate with the best skin in the Garrison, Lance Serrano is now relegated to languishing in cargo training during the day and locking himself in the library at night, sacrificing his self-care for a pile of textbooks like the nerds he used to make fun of.

He doesn’t even bother talking to the other late-night regulars – the boy with the Rubik’s Cube, the girl who chews her pens too loudly, or the Sadako-wannabe who’s always the only other person in there at midnight.

Friends will only distract him, and he needs to study.

He grabbed her hand and tugged her down the road, running. “Come on!” he said, darting between buildings with the practiced ease of someone who had spent his life exploring the town. He didn’t know why that group of men was chasing this girl, but he felt the sudden, inexplicable urge to protect her and help her escape.

“This way!”

Pidge was beyond excited, and if it wasn’t for the fact he had mentioned the A.I to her, one would think she had had a little too much caffeine. It was adorable, nonetheless, to see her like this, especially considering a few hours prior she was barely saying a word. 

 He led them down the multiple corridors he had taken in his hunt for the supplies, before stopping Pidge in her tracks when he recognized the lab. 

Pidge quirked a brow, bemused. “You broke into a lab?” 

“What?” he gave her a sideways glance. 

”Oh, no. The door was already unlocked when I tried it.” 

“That doesn’t make it any less wrong, Lance.”  Despite what she had said, she was smiling.

Here’s my submission for @madiletio and @rosieclark ‘s fic for the @planceminibang ! I wish I had more time to give the lineart and background more justice but regardless, this was a fun piece to work on. I’m a sucker for Pidge getting excited over tech and Lance thinking it’s adorable.
