It's good to be bad.
Jade only giggled as he bounded off. He was a good dog, albeit one she couldn’t predict. He was the only one that could surprise her, a property almost solely unique to him! But as he started to leave, those thoughts of something wrong got bigger and bigger. Something WAS up.„ but she didn’t know what it was! Out of nowhere she pulled her earmuffs close, and put them on, just before the sounds happened. As if she knew what would happen. But she didn’t, did she? She couldn’t have known about the sounds! Either way, at the noise, Jade suddenly grew worried. She didn’t need to be worried for Bec, he was a superdog, there was nothing that could hurt him! Nothing could ever hurt Bec. But she was worried for herself. Even with Bec there, she wasn’t so certain about her own safety. Especially not with such a weird sound. Granted, she had heard weirder, but she didn’t wait for something to happen. With a sudden look of determination, she ran over to grab her rifle, holding it as she ran out and did a youth roll, absconding from her room. If she thought right, she was fairly sure she knew where everything was coming from. Just before she had heard the gunshot, she was already out in the main area of her house, and at this point, he knew it came from outside. It was odd, though… That yelp? It sounded familiar, and yet she wasn’t certain it was Bec. It shouldn’t be him. He could teleport. But what worried her more was who shot the gun? Assuming that Bec was fine, she doubted someone would shoot themselves. And she knew Bec didn’t need a gun. This is what caused her to hesitate before opening the door to outside. Whatever was out there that shot that bullet would likely have more where it came from, and she wasn’t as fast as Bec. Sure, an expert markswoman, but that foreboding feeling didn’t go away. Whoever this was was bad news. Even so, after taking a deep breath, she slowly opened her door, peeking out to see if there was anything unusual outside. Outside was a guess of course, but she’d know if anyone but Bec was sneaking up behind her, right? She didn’t want to be seen, not until she could assess the situation! And so, very slowly she looked out from her door, to see everything she could with it open only partway. Examining the ground, examining where she was fairly sure she heard the growling from, and the yell that she wasn’t so sure she even heard. Even so, her earmuffs were still on, still making sure that her hearing would stay intact. She was absolutely silent at this. This wasn’t something her grandpa could fix for her. She was going to have to do it herself, and prove that she could last on her own!
Straight down the hallway Jade was peering down with the utmost of caution was Bec. The dog was sprawled out across the hallway floor whimpering and crying in pain as red seeped from the white fur at his stomach. Despite Jade's attempt to go unnoticed Bec smelled her, so with a whimper of pain lifted his head and woofed in greeting before thudding to the floor to resume his pained whines. Now though his tail was sliding across the floor, back and forth in a slow rhythm. He was wagging his tail even as his breath shuddered between his cries. Obviously Bec was hurt and the source of his hurt stood not three feet from him somehow hidden in the shadows which were cast fom the light above. "Bad dog, worst friend." Sounds of a rifle being reloaded echoed through the air as Jade stepped out of the shadows wielding the very same rifle her double had. The Jade now cocking her rifle was unlike the Jade inspecting the scene from her bedroom. The second Jade was obviously older, dressed in a black shirt with a white spirograph on it and a pleated black skirt which fell to her knees. Last, but certainly not least, a pair of white dog ears-BEC'S dog ears, stood atop her head. Rifle now reloaded Jade now pointed it at her younger self across the hall and put her finger on the trigger. "Aim at me and I'll have no choice to shoot. I won't kill you, you need to be alive, but it won't feel good to get shot in the arm, especially at this distance. And besides, you don't want to shoot me! I just saved your life a WHOLE lot of hurt. Of course you don't know that yet, but it's true, Woof!" Jade flashed her younger self a smile as she stepped back again, drawing even with Bec. She spared him a quick glance and then knelt down beside him and rubbed his neck. "Our Bec gave us quite a bit of trouble not long from now. He didn't mean too of course, he wasn't quite himself. In fact, you could say he wasn't himself at all but only a part of something much greater and far more sinister than our former friend." Despite being shot by the Jade now scritching behind his ears Bec's tail began to wag faster and he was doing his best to lick Jade's arm. Would that he could, he'd be toppling her over just to lick her face. "I know what you're going to ask? Why? Why shoot this Bec and not the one who's part of the trouble making.? Thing is, we did. We ALL did. John, Dave, Rose and myself but he was too powerful. He had powers WAY beyond a little bit of teleportation, powers which fucked us over pretty good time and time again. In the end, this was the only choice we had. The only way to save everyone, to make a difference of any kind, was to go back in time and nip this in the bud, as it were. Now, I'm sure you're also wondering why I'm telling you all this, and that to as a simple answer. I AM you and you will be me." Jade let the idea of this process for her younger self a bit before beginning to explain again. "I remember when I was in your position not too many months ago. I was so excited to start playing a game with my friends, not to mention all the birthdays coming up. I had worked so long and hard on John's present. Ah, memories, but I digress. Point is, I also remember the minutes leading up to this moment here. You, I, had been woken up by Bec just like every other day. But, unlike every other day we started to have a bad feeling about the future. We could't identify what it was, we just knew it was something REALLY bad. Then, before we could do much besides wake up a little there was a terribly scream, a gun shot and then a cry, Bec's cry though we didn't know it at the time. Or, couldn't believe it anyway, Bec could protect himself after all. He could teleport, he couldn't be shot! Sadly, we were only half right" The older Jade, who was only a couple months older than the one at the other end of the hall but had seen so, so much more: The age was on her eyes, stopped petty the slowly dying Bec and stood up. "Bec could teleport, yes, but not get shot, no. Teleportation powers don't mean much when you have them for yourself. " She pointed toward her dog ears by taking one arm off the rifle only to replace it a moment later. "I also have some neat space powers which enhance the teleporting ones. Instead of teleporting somewhere random I know where I end up, same for anyone else who changes the space there in. I know that makes no sense now, but it will. Now,before I go, and go I must, there is one more thing you must know about what I remember about today. When I was you, I remember finishing the job. I imagine he'd die either way, but like this his death would be much more slow and painful. He would suffer and cry, his cried becoming more painful, weak and broken as time progressed. Or, at least that's how I always figured it, so when I was you, I shot him and was glad of it." The other Jade stepped back again, half drenched in shadows but still apparent. "And just in case you don't believe a word I say, here is more proof." She pulled back her long, black hair to show her human ears covered with the very same earmuffs her younger self wore. "Good bye me, and good luck" With that the older Jade stepped back and disappeared completely, leaving the dying Bec at the end of the hallway.
