doesn’t give a shit about the lives of slaughterhouse workers: how they are usually on shitty contracts, are usually poor and people of color (PoC), how they don’t have basic working rights, and how often times they are undocumented.

doesn’t give a shit about how big, rich, Western, white countries go into other countries: usually (again) poor, underprivileged, native areas that are (again) usually inhabited by PoC. This takes land away from the people in that region or country and gives it to a) the livestock and/or b) the crops raised for that livestock.

doesn’t give a shit about the fact that animal product consumption is causing deforestation: there are undiscovered plants and other things in these areas that could help with medicine, not to mention that rain forests and other land contributes to 20% or so of the Earth’s oxygen. This effects not only non-human animals, but human animals as well.

doesn’t give a shit about the people back in their homes: in rich, white countries like the United States who live next to these factory farms. How their water quality is shit, the air quality is shit, the soil turns to shit and how they have higher rates of ailments that don’t effect people who don’t live near factory farms. This also leads to the areas being more poverty stricken.

doesn’t realize that they too (unless they fancy themselves to only live on meat, dairy, milk, honey and other animal products) eat the same exact fruits, vegetables and other plant-based foods that those same farm workers pick for a plant-based diet.

today at christmas dinner my sister-in-law was claiming that eating meat actually helped us humans develop our brains, like as in our evolution... which m

(damn that ask went away too soon but!! basically is there any evidence that eating meat helped us humans to develop out brains further… because i was kinda speechless when my sister-in-law came up with that claim)

This is a really common thing meat eaters love to bring up. It’s hard to say definitively, but the evidence we do have largely supports the notion that cooking improved our brains, not necessarily the meat itself. Regardless, it’s a really bizarre thing to get hung up on, since what our ancestors did as hunter gatherers and what helped their development is utterly irrelevant to a person living in the 21st century who very much does have the choice to go vegan. Faced with this argument I usually don’t even try to dispute the claim, since it takes too long. I usually just say “okay, well that was great for them, but why exactly does that mean you have to eat meat now?” When we’re trying to formulate our ethics I think we should aim just slightly higher than our cave-dwelling ancestors who very likely just ate whatever they could kill with a spear… Including each other.

Yeah I eat meat. But I also buy ALL of my meat from my mom’s best friend. She massages her pigs on the daily. All of her animals are free range on a 100 acre farm. And they’re killed quickly and humanely. So nah. I won’t go see that movie because they abuse animals. Not all meat comes from animals that have lived in a cage their whole lives.

Did you know that the less people eating meat, the cheaper produce gets for everyone.

Eighty percent of the children who go hungry live in countries that have a surplus in food production, but remain hungry and die of starvation because the grain surplus is exported to be fed to animals in the western world

You wanna fucking talk about poor people and what they eat? 4 Billion people on this planet live on an almost exclusively plant based diet due to poverty.

Even the fucking UN is urging people to abandon meat and dairy diets because of how fucking unresourceful animal agribusiness is.

What about how livestock currently uses up  a third of the Earth’s fresh water??

Maybe If you took your head out your fucking ass for a second and realized that if everyone ate a Western diet, we would need 2 Planet Earths to feed them and maybe took the time to read about the environmental impacts of a vegan vs meat eating diet you would realize maybe, just maybe, your diet has more to do with “the severe damages we’re causing to our own planet” than you fucking think.
