Maki is used to patients requesting her for the most inane reasons, but this time, she might not mind so much.

Beautiful and aloof, Maki Nishikino was considered one of the most popular residents at the best hospital in Tokyo. Many speculated that at least part of the greater freedoms she got compared to others in her year stemmed from her parentsâ ownership of the hospital. They were right, of course, and Maki hated it.
She was skilled in medicine, but not exceptional. It wasnât her passion. Maki tried her best not to dwell on that, though. There was nothing she could do about it.
âNishikino-san?â Just as she was deep in thought, a lower-level resident tapped her on the shoulder.
âWhat is it?â
âThereâs a patient requesting you,â they replied, motioning across the busy ER. âBed three.â
âIâll be right there,â she said, rolling her eyes. So much for getting caught up on paperwork. This wasnât uncommon either. If patients found out that the daughter of the owners was there, theyâd request her. It didnât make much sense to Maki, but it was what it was.
âHoshizora Rin,â she read from the patientâs chart. âInjured playing softball?â
âOh, good, Rin requested the pretty doctor, nya.â
Face flushing, Maki put the chart back, taking a better look at the girl sitting there. Injured wrist propped up, eyes sparkling with energy, short, orange hair...Not that Maki could really judge the choice to dye it an unnatural color, given her parentsâ disapproval of her own scarlet locks. This wasnât the time to be admiring a patientâs looks anyway, she chided herself.
âYou shouldnât say things like that,â she muttered as she examined the wrist. âJudge your doctors on their medical skills, not their looks.â When she was younger, Maki wouldâve gotten much more flustered at that kind of comment, but sheâd been able to tone down her reactions as she aged.
âBut itâs true,â Rin protested. âYouâre very pretty, Nishikino-san.â
Mumbling under her breath the rest of the exam, Maki breathed a sigh of relief when she was able to ship the girl off to radiology. Likely a broken wrist, nothing too catastrophic. She didnât know why a couple little compliments from a stranger got her so worked up.
âWell, just sign these papers and you can go,â she found herself saying a couple of hours later, gaze focused on the bright yellow casting material instead of Rinâs face. âBe sure to call if you have any concerns, and schedule a follow-up with a doctor.â
âI do have one question,â Rin said as she signed the discharge papers with her good hand.
âWhat is it?â
âDo you want to go on a date with me?â Rin asked, adding a ânyaâ on the end, as if for added cuteness.
âThatâs a highly inappropriate thing to ask your doctor. Besides, I donât even know you.â
Rin pouted, and Maki commanded herself not to be swayed. This was ridiculous.
âAt least sign my cast. Draw something cute on it.â
âDraw something cute on your cast? Youâre in your twenties, not a child.â
âPlease, Maki-chan...â
Maki heaved a sigh, signing her name and doodling a little cat next to it, since Rin seemed fond of acting like one.
âThere,â she said, straightening up and choosing to ignore the newly familiar form of address.
Similarly, she chose to ignore it when Rin slipped her her phone number on the way out.
A few days later, she sent a text to the number sheâd been given, saying yes to the offer of a date. Her parents were always encouraging her to try socializing and putting herself out there, even if Rin probably wasnât what they had in mind.
Months later, Rin still hadnât tired of calling her pretty, or of bothering her in the ER, though thankfully not as a patient anymore.
That was one special request for her that she didnât resent at all.
Semi canon compliant drabble set towards the beginning of Carry On, shortly after Baz arrives at Watford. Simon decides the best way to keep Baz from doing anything suspicious in the middle of the night is to crawl in bed with him to keep him there.
Ship: SnowBaz

Simon Snow was gorgeous even while sleeping, Baz thought to himself. It was criminal, really. The way his curls fell over his forehead, and that dumb little grin that appeared on his face. Probably dreaming of snogging Wellbelove. It was sickening, the way theyâd always acted around each other. Almost too happy, like they were putting on an act specifically to torture him. That was ridiculous though. As quickly as Snow had picked up on his vampirism, he was surprisingly oblivious to Bazâs affections.
Baz frowned, gaze still lingering along every plane of Simonâs face. His lips were so soft. They looked like theyâd be perfect to kiss. He wouldnât trust himself not to bite them. For that matter, he wouldnât trust Simon not to kill him the moment they touched. He shifted farther under the covers, cursing every damn cruel twist of fate that had forced them together. No matter how many times he repeated it to himself over the years, whispering âIâm in love with Simon Snowâ over and over when he was alone, it never stopped feeling any less terrifying and surreal.
Just as he was starting to drift off to sleep, he saw Simon stir, eyes opening. Baz forced any hints of fondness or longing from his face, adopting his usual sneer. There was no hope of pretending to be asleep, so the best he could do was to keep from letting it seem like heâd been staring.
âAny particular reason youâre staring at me?â Simon asked, voice barely above a whisper. Clearly, heâd noticed.
âDonât flatter yourself, Snow,â Baz scoffed, rolling over onto his other side, facing the window. âAs if I could stand looking at your face that long without it making me ill.â
For a long couple of moments, Baz dared to hope that that might be the end of it. He still wasnât up to his usual strength after the whole ordeal with the numpties, and he really wasnât in the mood for a long, agonizing argument in the middle of the night. But, of course, he couldnât possibly be that lucky.
He heard Simonâs bed creak quietly, and then footsteps on the floor between them. Before he could even puzzle out what was happening, there was an unfamiliar weight in the bed next to him, and then Simon fucking Snow was sprawled on top of him like some sort of guard dog. For the life of him, the only thing that Baz could figure was that he was planning on hurting him somehow, muttering out a quick warning of âAnathema.â
âIâm not going to hurt you,â Simon muttered. âNow, anyway. But someone clearly needs to keep an eye on you. What were you doing the past eight weeks?â
Baz tried halfheartedly to shove Simon off, not hard enough to really do anything. Really, he sort of wanted him to stay in bed with him, even if the intentions behind Snow crawling on top of him in the first place werenât exactly what heâd wanted, but he had to put up at least a little protest. He could feel the effects of that damn cross, but it wasnât eliminating the desire to kiss him. Or bite him. He growled softly, hardly noticing how much he sounded like Simon in that moment.
âCrowley, youâre thick,â he muttered. âDo you snuggle all your potential threats?â
There was no response. It took awhile for him to relax into the feeling of another body pressed comfortably against his own, and he was careful to wait until Simon was asleep before letting his arm drape loosely around his waist. The awful, endearing idiot had tucked his head right up under Bazâs chin, almost entirely on top of him, like he was cradling some sort of giant teddy bear. He did his best to memorize every detail. This was what had kept him sane in that dark coffin.
Simon tossed and turned in his sleep, apparently. When Baz woke up in the morning, he was no longer on top of him, but hugging him tightly, face pressed against his neck.
âIâm in love with Simon Snow,â he muttered quietly to himself, knowing he wouldnât be heard.
He pretended he was asleep when Simon disentangled himself without a word and got ready, waiting until the other boy had left the room before getting up himself. His sheets smelled like Simonâs magic, and without that, he might not have believed the previous night even happened.
Nearly a year later, when they were laying in bed together in almost the same position, in Simon and Pennyâs flat, Baz brought up the memory, almost laughing at how back then heâd thought that was as lucky as heâd ever get.
Simon just rolled his eyes, nuzzling in closer. âShouldâve snogged you then, I suppose. Put you out of your misery.â
âOh, shut up,â Baz growled playfully, kissing him. âYou were just as pathetic, you know, snuggling me like that.â His arm snuck in around Simonâs waist, pulling him a little closer. This certainly wasnât the life heâd ever imagined for himself, even when heâd been falling asleep with his then-enemy in his bed. It was much better.

When he woke up in the morning a few days later, Sollux felt more confused than he had in quite awhile. It had been a couple of days since Eridan first arrived, and it had all felt a little surreal since then. Like both of them were pushing invisible boundaries, seeing if they pressed a little closer, or held the otherâs hand a little longer, things would snap back to reality.
It wasnât normal to start acting all affectionate like this with someone you werenât close to, especially with neither person even mentioning it, right? It wasnât normal to act like it was normal. And yet, he didnât want to stop. The memories probably didnât help matters. Remembering how soothing and kind Eridan had been then made him want more of the nice Eridan now. Everything was so unstable with the collapse of society and all, so he wanted something soothing and reliable.. That made sense.
Sollux was just thinking in circles, but he couldnât help it. He wasnât even fully sure of his own feelings or actions, much less Eridanâs. What he did know, however, was that he didnât think he could bear to be without him again. Being alone wasnât all that bad at the time, but the contrast made him realize how lonely he'd truly been. Eridan wouldnât leave him though, right? Right. He had no reason to. He wouldnât leave him. He promised.
He sighed softly, curling a little closer to Eridan. The floor wasnât a comfortable place to sleep, but heâd gotten used to it, and it was especially nice when he could rest his head on Eridanâs shoulder or chest, listening to his heartbeat.
Eridan shifted in his sleep and held Sollux closer, glasses starting to fall off his face. He always seemed to sleep deeper and longer than Sollux, who was lucky to get four or five restless hours a night. Before too long though, Eridan yawned quietly and opened his eyes, grip on Solluxâs waist loosening.
âMorninâ, Sol,â he murmured, taking his glasses off momentarily to rub at his eyes. Sollux had gotten used to the nickname, and always called Eridan âEDâ in turn, not even mentally questioning the familiarity anymore.
âYeah, morning, lazy,â he teased, a smirk playing at his lips. âIâve been awake for almost an hour already.â
Eridan frowned at that, sitting up a little.
âDid you sleep at all last night?â he asked, fingers brushing through Solluxâs hair.
âA little. Not much less than usual. Donât worry. Iâm sleeping better now than I was before you were with me.â Sollux sat up as well, stretching a little and leaning back against Eridan. It was probably only a matter of time before theyâd start kissing and acting like that was normal too, he thought.
âAlright, alright...If you say so.â
âI do. Iâm fine. Iâve never slept all that much.â He shrugged, looking over at him. âAnyway...todayâs the day, huh?â Sollux felt bad having to talk about it so much, when it must be so hard for Eridan to even think about.
âYeah,, todayâs the day,â Eridan sighed. âGetting rid of the rest of my old life. My dad, my home...All gone.â
âIâm sorry,â Sollux offered weakly, not sure how he was supposed to comfort Eridan.
âItâs alright. Fuck it. That me was pathetic anyway. Maybe this me will actually be good for something.â Eridan nodded, biting his lip.
âWhat, goodbye spoiled rich boy Eridan and hello survivalist Eridan?â Maybe trying to crack jokes would be best. There werenât a whole lot of genuinely funny things to laugh at anymore.
âSomething like that.â Eridan forced a small smile, absently toying with one of his rings, spinning it around and around on his finger.
âHey, itâll be fine, eventually, maybe,â Sollux offered. âAnd maybe it wonât be, but at least weâll suffer through whatever shit life has in store together, right?â
âYou need to get better at comforting people,â Eridan replied, rolling his eyes. âYouâre just as pessimistic as me, so it doesnât really work.â
âAt least Iâm honest. Shitty honesty is better than fake optimism.â
âI suppose youâre right,â Eridan agreed.
âIâm always right. Now, we should probably start getting ready...â Neither of them knew exactly what theyâd be facing outside, but itâd probably be a lot of boring nothing. Corpses, maybe a wild animal or two...Nothingness.
âYeah, we should just get it over with. No point in sitting around thinking about it.â
Sollux slowly got up, stretching again once he was standing. They'd already packed some supplies just in case; food, water, first aid materials, and of course they'd each have a weapon. The plan was to spend the night at Eridan's house and then decide what to do. As they'd already discussed, they couldn't live in the school indefinitely, but they weren't sure where that more permanent home would be yet.
As soon as Eridan stood up, he grabbed one of the backpacks, folding up a blanket to add to it before slinging it over his shoulders.
"Oh, you want to go now?" Sollux furrowed his brow, utterly confused. "I thought we'd at least have breakfast first."
"I want to go now. No breakfast. Let's just do it," Eridan's voice was firm, but Sollux doubted he was really that confident about it.
"Okay, ED, if that's what you want." Sollux added a blanket to his own bag and picked it up, glancing around the room. The essentials were all packed; the rest would be left behind to gather dust like the rest of the school.
Checking weapons, taking a last look around...it all only took a few moments. Then Eridan was opening the door, and they were stepping out into the hall, walking towards the exit.
Right outside the front doors, Sollux saw the first body. At first, he just stared blankly, frozen on the edge of the bottom step. Then, when he noticed the flies, he wound up retching into the grass, Eridan's hand resting at his lower back.
"You're gonna have to get used to seeing them. The bodies, I mean," Eridan said. "They're everywhere."
Grimacing, Sollux glanced up at him, an irritated expression on his face.
"I know. I just wasn't expecting one right here. You don't have to treat me like someone who can't handle this stuff." He straightened up, starting down the sidewalk, away from the school.
Eridan wasted no time in following him, catching up easily and taking his hand like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"It's just...I've been out here more recently than you. A month ago, it was bad, yeah, but not this bad. More people were alive a month ago."
"I don't want you to see me as weak," Sollux said. "You know some shit about me, but I don't want that to make you see me as weak."
   "I don't. I wouldn't."
   "Good."
It was a slow, boring trek towards Eridan's fancy neighborhood, avoiding all sorts of debris. Sollux became convinced that they wouldn't see a single other living person. That maybe there were no other living people in town. Then, he saw a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye.
Judging by Eridan's tight grip on his hand, he'd seen it too. A very slight movement, and a hint of what looked like a torn black sweater, exposing the tan skin underneath. A real, live person.
"Careful, Sol," Eridan whispered as they crept closer.
There was no adrenaline-fueled confrontation, no weapons pulled out. They just stared at each other; Eridan and Sollux on one side, and this person on the other, both openly staring.
"What, are you just gonna gawk at me like a couple of brain-dead fuckpods?" The stranger's voice was rough and a little raspy, like he hadn't had reason to use it in awhile. It certainly broke the silence though.
"I guess that depends on if you're gonna keep acting like a scared zoo animal," Sollux retorted automatically.
"Oh, you think I'm scared, huh? At least I'm not cowering behind my boyfriend for protection."
Finally, Eridan interjected, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet with impatience.
"Yeah, yeah, you're both a couple a pansies, now can we get going, Sol? Uh, you too, I guess, if you want," he said as an afterthought, gesturing towards the other boy.
"Karkat Vantas," he said by way of introduction. "I'm a little surprised you'd offer a spot in your group to a stranger so fucking quickly, and honestly, you both seem pretty pathetic, but I'll take you up on it."
"Right...I'd argue that, but that'd just delay us further. Eridan Ampora." Eridan kept walking, squeezing Sollux's hand. Karkat followed.
"Sollux Captor," Sollux said, glancing back at Karkat. "Welcome to our dysfunctional...whatever this is."
Conversation was minimal on the rest of the walk, mostly consisting of Karkat asking a few questions about where they were going and what the plan was, with either Sollux or Eridan answering. Theyâd stopped holding hands, though they were still walking close together, hands or arms occasionally brushing. Karkat referring to them as boyfriends was still lingering in Solluxâs mind, and he wasnât sure whether it was a good or bad thing.
As they walked up the driveway to the house, all three of them were dead silent. It felt like it would be wrong to speak, like chatting during a funeral. And really, it kind of was a funeral, if an unusual one.
The body was in what appeared to be a comfy sitting room, sat on a couch. The smell of rot, along with other things Sollux didnât much want to think about, permeated the room, making it impossible to forget that there was a corpse there. He tried not to breathe in the mingling smells of sickness and death, chewing anxiously at his lip.
âIâll take care of it. You guys donât have to help,â Eridan said, walking over to his father and closing his eyes, making sure he was really dead.
âGod, you really are stupid,â Karkat scoffed. âYou canât dig a grave and bury him all by yourself just because itâs your duty or some other, equally pretentious bullshit. Iâm helping.â
Eridan didnât respond, just striding down the hall, presumably in search of something heâd need for this.
âHeâs really dramatic sometimes,â Sollux admitted once Eridan was out of earshot. âYou get used to it.â
âI doubt youâre any better,â Karkat said as both of them followed Eridan to the garage, where he was comparing a couple of different shovels.
Karkat grabbed one of the shovels and waited for Eridan to take the other, while Sollux found a couple pairs of old gardening gloves. The idea of using gardening gloves while digging a grave was almost laughable, but he knew they'd need some sort of gloves.
Next was finding a good location. It took awhile, but Eridan picked a spot in the shade of some trees in the backyard. He and Karkat started digging, Sollux wishing he could do something more helpful than standing around.
Eventually, they settled into a pattern of two digging and one resting to take over for whoever got tired and needed a break first, and repeating that cycle until they had a large enough hole.
"I guess I'll need help carrying him out here," Eridan muttered, going back inside the house. Once Sollux got to the living room to join him, Eridan was carefully wrapping his father's body in a sheet, likely both for ease of carrying and to try and partially make up for the lack of a coffin.
Once it was drawing closer to sunset, everything was done, including a valiant effort at a hand-carved gravestone that neither Sollux nor Karkat could bear to mention the ugliness of. It was sweet that Eridan had tried.
Dinner consisted of MREs that'd been stored in the basement, and they actually sat around the dining room table, not saying much of anything while they ate.
"We can sleep in the study," Eridan announced, the first time he'd spoken in a few hours. "It's nice and tucked away, but not as easy to get trapped in as somewhere upstairs."
"Works for me. It's probably more comfortable than the floor at school," Sollux said. "I'm assuming you have plenty of pillows and blankets and shit we can use."
"I haven't slept in a couple of days, so I really couldn't care less how comfortable it is, as long as I can actually sink into blissful unconsciousness," Karkat chimed in, getting up from the table. "And as long as I won't be forced to listen to you two fucking across the room from me."
"Uh, we aren't-" Sollux and Eridan said it in unison, glancing at each other.
"Mhm, sure. You just act like a couple for the hell of it."
"Are you planning on accusing us of trying to seduce you the moment we get comfortable around you too? You're reading way too much into this." He was actually pretty accurate in his assessment, but Sollux was determined to deny it until he could figure out what Eridan thought of the idea.
The answer to that was pretty damn comfortable, judging by Eridan's next comment.
"Maybe we should seduce him, Sol. Living through the apocalypse deserves some kind of reward. What's better than two hot boyfriends?" The smirk on Eridan's face was unmistakably devious, and it seemed like he was actually considering the idea. Sollux could work with that.
"I'd say three, but that'd throw off my whole duality thing. So I'm gonna have to go with nothing."
Karkat didn't respond as he scooped up all the plates from the table and dumped them in the sink, but his face was bright red. Not as much of a stoic grump as Sollux thought, if he blushed at the two of them joking around like that.
"Mhm, that's what I thought," Eridan said faux-thoughtfully. "Now we just need to make our dream come true." As he and Sollux left the dining room as well, he grabbed Sollux's arm gently, tugging him into a kiss. "We gotta be the most badass power trio on Earth though, or no deal."
"How could we possibly be anything else?" Sollux managed to say, the words feeling clunky and awkward as they came out of his mouth. Eridan kissed him. Eridan just kissed him, in front of Karkat no less, and had made it feel like the most natural thing in the world.
"As much as I'd love to gloat about how I was right about you two being a thing, I'd love to get some pillows and blankets together and actually lay down even more," Karkat cut in, something that seemed to already be turning into a trend.
Eridan glared at him, but turned to lead the way to a well-stocked linen closet they could take bedding from. It didn't take long to set up a cozy sleeping area in the study, but it was all done in awkward, uncertain silence. Something had begun to change, but none of them knew what to do about it.
"So, uh, KK, what's your story?" Sollux asked once they were all sitting on the thick comforters they'd laid out. He had to break the silence somehow, and it was important to know more about Karkat anyway.
"My story?" Karkat rolled his eyes, leaning back against the wall. "Well, I assume you only care about the shit since the virus broke out, right? I lived with my dad and my brother in a shitty apartment building, but we had food and everything. We would've been fine. But my dumbass father decided he needed to help the less fortunate. Playing nurse to the victims. He got sick within a week of starting that, and gave it to my brother pretty quickly after. I gave them tea laced with Vicodin. It's, uh, what I would've wanted, you know?" His voice cracked on the last word, and he wiped at his eyes.
Sollux nodded, once again not sure what to say, just like when heâd been talking to Eridan about his dad. He didnât have some sob story about infected relatives, so he didnât know how the people who did wanted him to react. His family had gotten stuck out of town, and heâd just never seen them again. That was it. No closure, no tough decisions.
Eridan still hadnât said much of anything. With the exception of that boyfriend quip and kiss, heâd been uncharacteristically quiet all day. Heâd curled up under a blanket with his eyes closed, but was clearly still awake. Sollux reached over, taking his hand. Eridan squeezed it back, but stayed silent. Karkat was just looking at them, and Sollux could practically see him thinking.
âIf you guys were serious about all that before...I donât think Iâd mind,â Karkat finally said. âI mean, I have to admit youâre pretty hot for people who probably havenât had a decent shower or clean clothes in God knows how long.â
âYouâre not so bad yourself,â Sollux murmured with a smirk, and Eridan offered up a tired sound that was probably meant as agreement.
They settled down for the night shortly after, Sollux and Eridan wrapped up in each otherâs arms as had become customary, and Karkat a short distance away. For now, they were at peace, oblivious to the creaking sounds of the ceiling above them.

2 to 3 percent of the population is naturally immune to the virus. 2 to 3 percent of the population is naturally immune to the virus. 2 to 3 percent of the population is naturally immune to the virus. He just had to keep telling himself that. He was immune. He had to be. Almost his whole neighborhood had been dead or dying when heâd gotten the nerve to pack supplies and ditch his house, so he mustâve been exposed at some point. Exposure without getting sick meant immunity.
Sollux was sitting curled up in the corner of the computer lab at his high school. Former high school now, he supposed. Heâd just been a month away from graduation when the schools had closed to prevent spreading of the virus. Now it seemed pretty damn unlikely that things would calm down enough for something like him getting his diploma to matter. No disease had even been close to this devastating since the Black Death in the 1300s, and even that had spared portions of the world.
Heâd been alone for about a month, he figured. He hadnât been keeping precise track of the days, and it was difficult when they were all more or less the same. The school had a pretty sizable stock of food, a lot of which didnât need to be cooked, as well as several cases of bottled water, iced tea, and so on. Between that and the computer lab filled with laptops whose lingering battery charge he could carefully ration, there were definitely worse places he could be.
Sollux sighed softly, running his fingers through his hair and taking a sip of his water. He was a relatively solitary person, but he was really missing some human interaction. What if he was the only one left around here?
As if in answer to his mental question, he heard footsteps in the hallway. Gentle, surefooted thuds, not the weak stumbling of the dying. Another immune, then, like him. He got to his feet, taking hold of the wickedly sharp, serrated kitchen knife heâd found. It wasnât a weapon made for combat, but it was better than nothing if this person turned out to be violent.
The hand not holding the knife shook slightly on the doorknob, and he wondered if it might be better to just go back to his cozy corner and hope this person didnât think the computer lab warranted investigation. But he knew he couldnât do that. Not when there was a chance he could get an ally out of this.
He steadied his shaky hand and opened the door, quietly stepping out into the hallway. The figure was turned the other way at first, so Sollux had a moment to inspect it. Taller than him, and more athletic looking. Expensive-looking clothes, and a gun tucked in their pants. Overall, someone he really didnât want to have to fight with his dumb kitchen knife. Sollux didnât have a chance to make any more observations before they turned to face him.
Neither of them said anything for a long few moments, just staring at each other. They werenât friends or anything, not even really acquaintances. The amount of people in their grade was just sizable enough to make it possible for the top two students not to know each other. It wasnât like who was valedictorian mattered anymore, but all through high school, heâd known that itâd be between him and some guy named Eridan Ampora. Heâd been pointed out to Sollux a few times, no big deal.
There was that one time junior year too, but Sollux didnât want to think about that. Couldnât think about it now, when Eridan was staring at him, had a gun, and knew exactly what one of his biggest weaknesses was.
He bit his lip, hand getting shaky again. This time the one holding the knife. Not good. Sollux took one tiny step back towards his computer lab, watching carefully for a sign Eridan was going to reach for his gun.
âSollux...â Eridanâs tone was hesitant, the sort you might use when talking to a feral animal. He was just as scared, then.
âEridan...â He replied just as hesitantly, not at all sure what to do.
âI didnât think anyone else would be here,â Eridan finally said. âI donât even know why I came here, really. Just needed some sort of familiar place, I guess.â
âYeah. Me too, I guess.â What else could he say? âAnd thereâs a lot of computers here, so...I just wanted to be around them.â Ugh, that sounded so stupid. But Eridan was acting different too, going by what heâd seen of him over the years. Maybe they were both just that desperate for someone to talk to.
âWould you mind some company? Iâve been doinâ fine on my own, but who knows how many people there are around here...And we kinda know each other already, so...â Eridan shrugged, moving a little closer.
âYou want to team up or something?â Sollux raised an eyebrow, more than a little surprised by the offer. It was all he could do not to ask how long. Eridan seemed to figure that part of the question out anyway though.
âYeah. Indefinitely. For however long you feel like putting up with me. I figured in this situation, itâs probably better to have someone with you.â
He had no reason to trust him, or to trust anything he said. That one encounter aside, he didnât know Eridan. He could be tricking him. But he certainly seemed genuine...
Sollux wasnât able to carefully consider the pros and cons very long. Even if it was a terrible idea, heâd probably say yes, no matter how much he might like to pretend otherwise.
âOkay, if you really want to spend your days with a dysfunctional computer geek, Iâm not gonna stop you. You can be my friend or whatever.â And with that, Sollux stepped back into the dim computer lab, wasting no time in getting comfy where he was sitting before.
Eridan followed, sitting next to him and carefully taking a half-stale dinner roll out of the bag in front of him. The schoolâs food offerings had been much better a month ago. After a moment of consideration, Sollux offered him half his blanket. Even in the summer, this part of the school could get a little chilly.
He had a small stack of textbooks off to the side, mostly science and programming. Even if they werenât very exciting, they were something to read. Sollux had one on his lap, skimming through it. Maybe random science knowledge would come in handy in this world.
âWe both know I kicked your ass in Chem,â Eridan teased when he noticed what Sollux was reading.
âJust like we both know you pretended to be a science wizard the whole year,â Sollux retorted, a slight smirk on his face. They hadnât been in the same Chemistry class, but pretty much the whole school knew about that.
Eridan rolled his eyes, scooting a little closer, both for more effective blanket sharing and so he could read over Solluxâs shoulder.
âMagic is fake as shit, Sol. Everyone knows that, including me.â
âI never said you didnât.â
âWhatever.â
Once again, they lapsed into silence, both going back to reading the Chemistry textbook. There were plenty of other books sitting there, but Eridan chose to keep reading over Solluxâs shoulder.
Sollux lost track of how long that went on, but when he woke up some time later, the textbook was still half on his lap, and Eridanâs head was resting on his shoulder, their fingers just barely touching, like theyâd moved towards holding hands in their sleep. Odd, considering they hardly knew each other, but comforting.
He just watched Eridan sleep for awhile, glancing down to notice that even now, the Aquarius had all sorts of sparkly gold and violet rings on his fingers. Flaunting his wealth even in the apocalypse.
Before long, Eridan woke up, blinking sleepily. He yawned, picking his head up from Solluxâs shoulder.
âHow long was I asleep?â he asked, clearly a little disoriented. Sollux had gotten used to not always knowing what time or even what day it was, but apparently Eridan hadnât, wherever heâd been until now.
âI donât know. Thereâs no windows in this room, and the clock batteries died about a week ago,â he replied, letting their fingers brush again.
âYouâve been holed up in here over a week?â Eridan sounded surprised, like that possibility hadnât even occurred to him.
âYeah, probably about a month by now. When everyone in my neighborhood got sick, I walked here, since I didnât know where else to go. My family was away when it started getting bad, so they couldnât make it back. And I havenât had a reason to leave here since, so I havenât.â He shrugged.
âI was at home up until yesterday,â Eridan finally said. âWe were pretty much set for awhile with food and a generator and everything. It all kinda went to shit when my dad got sick...I tried to take care of him for awhile, figuring Iâd get it too before long. But I havenât. Yesterday I couldnât do it anymore. I just...left.â
Sollux nodded in understanding. He doubted anyone could bear to take care of someone in that condition for long, especially a loved one.
âI was planning on going back in a couple of days...to finish taking care of things. You donât have to come with me for that, but I feel like itâs something I need to do.â Eridanâs fingers interlocked more securely with Solluxâs. âHe deserves a proper burial, and I need to gather up some things, so...â
Again, Sollux wasn't quite sure what to say. He'd never exactly been taught what to say to someone who was waiting for their father to die before going back.
"No, I'll go with you. We're a team now, right?" He gently squeezed Eridan's hand, offering him a half smile. "We'll do it together."
"Thanks, Sol." Eridan squeezed back, still pressed close to him under the blanket.
âNo problem,â he said, staring down at the blanket, tracing the stitches at the hem of it with his fingertip. This was all artificial closeness, created from needing to share a blanket, or both of them reading the same book. He couldnât let himself think Eridan truly cared for him all that much, because that couldnât possibly be true.
âAnyway, uh, we should probably have some kind of plan. We canât just stay here indefinitely like a couple of fuckinâ idiots who canât be bothered to think anything through,â Eridan said suddenly, eyes glowing with a clear need to talk about concrete logistics instead of emotions.
âWell, yeah, no shit. The supplies here arenât going to last forever, and thereâs a lot of other things we still need. Plus, this building isnât something we could easily secure or heat or anything like that...â Sollux chewed thoughtfully at his lower lip, trying to remember all the things theyâd have to keep in mind from now on.
"We need something smaller," Eridan agreed. "A house would be best, out of the way of any potential looters. Supplies, I'm sure we can find around town. There's hardly anyone left to take them."
"So we'll just...look for a decent house and whatever supplies we can find? I guess that works for now, but eventually we're gonna need a longer-term plan than that. Supplies run out, ED." Sollux hardly even noticed the affectionate term he used, too caught up in his thoughts.
"Obviously. I know that. But don't you think it's better to focus on right now first? We don't even know if we'll live that long."
The silence dragged on until Eridan finally continued.
"We'll talk about it after we take care of things at my house, okay?"
"You were the one who was so insistent on talking about a plan right now, but okay. We'll wait."
The mood was tense after that little discussion, and there was only minimal conversation for the majority of the day in between brief snacks and pacing around the room. Not exciting by any means, that was for sure. Sollux was fed up with such boring days, but he knew that he should be savoring it now, since things could be very different outside the walls of the school.
When it started getting late, the insignificant little argument faded away, and they got comfortable with all the pillows and blankets Sollux had stashed in the room. Unlike the night before, when they'd accidentally fallen asleep close together, they laid down next to each other, cuddling up close.
"I still think about that time..." Eridan said quietly.
"Yeah, I do too." Sollux pressed closer, resting his head against Eridan's chest.
Sollux and Eridan, despite what most people might think, are actually incredibly fond of each other. Eridan, not wanting to risk his father suspecting that he might be in a relationship with the boy next door, continues to act cruel to him at school, their only affectionate moments when they sneak into each other's rooms at night through the window to fall asleep in each others' arms. After awhile though, that's not enough.

Sollux couldn't sleep, yet again. His thoughts just kept spinning around and around in his head, not offering any kind of respite. Clearly, just laying here in bed wasn't going to be very helpful tonight. It rarely was. He sat up and sighed softly, assessing his options. He could just pull an all-nighter wasting time on the Internet, or even do something productive like write the English essay due next week or clean his room.
Taking a sip of water from the half-full bottle sitting on his nightstand, he glanced out the window. Sure enough, the window directly across from his own had the violet curtains drawn, but there was warm light leaking out into the night from the crack between them. He was awake. Sollux ran a hand through his messy hair, just staring out the window for a minute. It was just his side yard, with the familiar, sturdy tree, and then, a little farther away, the house that looked far too fancy to belong on this street.
There was a little gazebo in the huge, shared backyard. It had started out as two smaller yards, but no boundaries were ever drawn and over time they just melded into one. Quite a few amazing memories had been made behind the gauzy curtains hung around that gazebo the past couple of summers, and he was sure there would be more, now that things were warming up again for the spring. Thinking about the gazebo would do absolutely nothing for his sleeplessness though. He had to decide whether it was bad enough to warrant the daring maneuver he'd done so many times before.
Finally he decided that yes, it was.
The lanky teen got out of bed, tugging on a pair of soft, worn pajama pants, which he'd bought especially for these late night outings. Sneaking across the yard in just his t-shirt and boxers would be a bad idea, and putting jeans on at 1:00 or 2:00 AM wasn't usually appealing either, hence the comfy flannel pants. Sollux then shoved his feet in his sneakers and walked over to the window, opening it as quietly as he could and praying it wouldn't creak.
Getting the screen out of the window in the dark with minimal noise was something he'd gotten better at with practice, as was fitting it back in once he was outside, crouching on the rather precarious ledge just below his window. Tonight, Sollux did all of that with ease, going from ledge to tree branch, to other tree branch, and finally to the matching ledge of the house next door. He didn't want to mess with the ground or front doors; this was faster.
He gave the glass of the window three quick taps, code for 'I want to come in.' They'd never sat down and made up the window tap code, figured out what meant what. It'd just naturally evolved over time. At first, he worried that Eridan had fallen asleep and hadn't heard him. But then, the curtains parted, and a familiar face smiled at him, opening the window and helping him inside.
"Couldn't sleep?" Eridan asked quietly, almost a whisper. The concern in his voice never failed to tug at Sollux's heartstrings. When he acted sweet like this, it made up for every transgression done in the daylight.
Sollux just nodded, slipping off his shoes as Eridan closed the window and the curtains. This room was almost as familiar as his own, even though he'd only seen the rest of the house's interior a handful of times.
"I'm certainly not havin' any problems feelin' tired, but I only just finished my Physics homework," Eridan said, gesturing to himself, still fully dressed and public-ready. "It's alright though, I suppose. This way I was awake to let you in."
Sollux nodded and wasted no time in crawling into Eridan's luxurious, king-size bed, slipping out of his pants as he did. Meanwhile, the other boy padded between the bedroom and the attached bathroom, getting ready for bed. He looked so oddly sweet and vulnerable with all the gel out of his hair and the icy attitude disposed of. When he took off his shirt, Sollux couldn't help but stare for a moment, taking in the sight of that lean swimmer's torso that he ordinarily only got to sneak peeks of in the locker room before gym class.
Soon, Eridan was laying next to him, one hand sliding under his shirt to trace along his ribs with his fingertips as his other hand worked the TV remote, putting on some dumb house hunting show on low volume, just for background noise.
"I'm sorry about today," Eridan said softly, sounding almost like he was close to tears. Even as he did though, his fingers kept mapping paths along Sollux's skin, like it was as necessary as breathing. "I'm sorry you had to hear it."
It wasn't like he hadn't heard worse things about himself come out of Eridan's mouth. This time it was just some jibe about how he was some psycho freak. Nothing too detailed or personal. He knew they had to keep up appearances.
"I know," Sollux replied, pressing closer. "You know I just want you safe." He'd offered so many times that Eridan could just stay with him if his father kicked him out, but he'd had none of it. It was clear that being disowned by the Ampora family would break him.
"Someday it'll be different, Sol," Eridan said. "After graduation. Maybe it'll be easier after graduation." Sollux noticed his hands getting frustrated navigating the tangles of fabric, and he just took off his shirt, letting it drop to the floor.
"Right. After graduation." Eridan's hand rested over his heart, the Aquarius seeming to draw comfort from its steady beating.
"I swear it," Eridan breathed, lips dragging leisurely over his collarbone. "I wanna be with you forever. I just...can't come out right now. You know that."
Sollux made a soft noise of assent, arms wrapping around the other's waist, pulling him closer.
"Enough of that talk for now though," he urged lightly. "Tell me about your day."
"You were there for most of it," Sollux protested, muffling a laugh against Eridan's shoulder.
"Not really. I mean, yeah, I was there, but...as an outsider. It's not like I can lean over in the middle of History and make a joke about the stupid educational movie we're watching, or see the bruise on your hip in Gym and tell you how much I wanna kiss it. I'm just one of those rich jerks who makes your life hell." Once done with his explanation, Eridan just sighed.
"Well, what do you want to know?" Sollux's lips quirked into a smile, unsurprised when Eridan ducked under the covers briefly to press a tender kiss to the curve of his hipbone, just as he'd mentioned.
"Did you think about me?" Eridan asked that relatively frequently, so Sollux already had a reply prepared.
"Yeah, of course I did. All day, I was hoping I'd be here tonight. Plus, those pants you wore today make your ass look great."
That made Eridan grin, clearly thrilled at both the reassurance that he was on Sollux's mind, and at the compliment.
"I'm gonna buy us a mansion like that someday," he murmured sleepily, pointing to the house being shown onscreen. It was ridiculously ornate, and far more expensive than Sollux could ever reasonably hope to afford, coming from a family who just managed to scrape by.
âOh, really? Are you going to get us a private island too?â Sollux teased, resting his head on Eridanâs chest.
âMy family actually does have a private island,â Eridan replied. âIn the Bahamas.â
âBullshit, no, you donât.â Sollux refused to believe that the Amporas, as rich as they were, actually owned their own island. And at that, he had to wonder yet again why they lived here, in the same neighborhood as him. Heâd never asked. It would feel like tempting fate. Just a few years ago, he wouldâve dreamed of Eridan moving somewhere more suited to his wealth, so that heâd only have to put up with his torment at school, not at home too. But now, if they couldnât do this, heâd be devastated.
âYes, we do. Maybe Iâll take you there someday.â From the tone of his voice, it was clear that Eridan was drifting off to sleep.
âYour alarmâs set for early, right?â Sollux double-checked. Mornings were always a little scary, trying to sneak out and back to his own house before either of their fathers noticed.
âMhm, 5:00, like always,â Eridan said, kissing his nose. âThatâs just a couple of hours away, so get some sleep, babe.â
âI donât know if I can...My thoughts just keep swirling around in my head...â He sighed, nestling closer to Eridan. âCan you keep talking to me a little longer?â
âSure. Anything in particular you want me to talk about?â
âNo, I just wanna hear your voice.â
âOkay.â
True to his word, Eridan kept talking softly to him, about what his plans were for after school the next day, how maybe if he framed it to look enough like a joke, they could be partners for their History presentation...After awhile, Sollux stopped fully absorbing the meaning of what the other was saying, just allowing himself to be soothed by the familiar voice.
By some miracle, he almost always managed to sleep soundly when he was next to Eridan, snuggled up under the violet duvet, and this time was no different. When the alarm went off at 5:00, he'd at least gotten a solid three hours of sleep, which was better than nothing.
"Mmh, too early," he groaned, burying his face in the pillow and silently willing Eridan to turn the incessantly chiming alarm off.
"Yeah, I know, Sol. But you gotta get up." Eridan ran his fingers through his hair, smiling sympathetically.
"Maybe we should just ditch school today," Sollux suggested. "So we can actually have some time together."
"I have a Latin test this morning that I really can't miss...I could probably make up some excuse to get out at lunchtime though, so we can have the afternoon," Eridan offered, hands wandering over Sollux's thin torso.
"Yeah, that works," Sollux decided. "I guess I'll go just for the morning too, and then we can leave together and go get lunch."
"Alright. We can meet up at noon or so outside."
"You know, it'd be a lot easier if you actually gave me your number," Sollux grumbled. "It's not like anyone will know."
"Fine, fine." Eridan sighed, passing Sollux his phone. "Put your number in, but then you have to go home, love."
Sollux did so, setting Eridan's phone down and giving him a kiss before getting out of bed and starting to get dressed again.
"See you in a few hours," he said sleepily before opening the window and crawling his way out onto the ledge, making his way back to his own room with no problems.
When he was back in his own house getting ready for school, his phone buzzed quietly with a text from a number that must be Eridan's, that said only "you should really remember to close your curtains wwhen youre gettin undressed. someone might look in your wwindoww."
"ii thiink you'd be awfully dii2appoiinted iif ii diid," he replied, looking up to see Eridan looking out his own window at him.
"im just lookin out for you, babe." That made Sollux smile, and he waved slightly before he left his room.
When he was walking to his first period programming class, which was coincidentally right across the hall from the Latin classroom, he nearly bumped right into Eridan.
"Watch it, Captor," he growled, shoving him slightly. His hand then slipped down from his shoulder to his ass, copping a quick feel before anyone could notice. Sollux almost laughed, simply because Eridan had never once dared to do that in public before.
In the middle of second period, Eridan chose Sollux to be his partner for the research project, striking the perfect balance between sarcasm and sincerity to not make anyone else suspicious, but also to not upset Sollux.
All morning, it felt like things had decisively changed for the better, like Eridan had finally figured out that just occasionally sneaking into each other's rooms at night didn't constitute a relationship.
When it came time to make their lunchtime escape, Sollux got his things and slipped out a back door between classes, completely undetected. He waited in the parking lot for Eridan, sending him a quick text to make sure he remembered. "ii'm waiitiing for you out2iide."
For a nerveracking few minutes, it seemed like maybe Eridan wasn't coming. Sollux shifted from foot to foot, glancing at his phone and hoping that nobody would come outside and see him there.
"Shit, I'm so sorry, I got held up by someone askinâ about prom stuff, since you know, Iâm on the committee anâ all..." Eridan was out of breath, like he'd been running to keep Sollux from having to wait any longer than necessary. "Where do you want to go?"
Sollux shrugged, secretly just relieved that Eridan hadnât bailed on him. âI donât really care, anywhere you want is fine.â
They wound up at a little diner on the other side of town, where there was virtually no chance of anybody recognizing them. Nobody even asked why they weren't in school. They ate lunch, chatting and laughing the whole time. It felt more carefree than Sollux had ever imagined something with Eridan could be.
"What do you want to do now?" He asked as they wandered out of the diner towards their cars, letting his fingers loosely interlock with Eridan's. Eridan reflexively tugged his hand away.
"I don't know..." He trailed off. "Bein' in public like this just makes me feel all antsy. Like someone's gonna see me."
"Eridan...You've been doing so good today, and you have to go back to worrying about that now? Nobody's going to see us."
"You don't know that!" They were standing in the middle of the parking lot right now, and Sollux hoped for both their sakes that nobody else would walk out and witness their argument.
"Fine. Whatever. I don't want to fight with you right now." He lifted his hands in defeat, unlocking his car. "Do you just want to go home and go back to pretending you don't love me?"
"No...no, Sol, you know I don't want that." Eridan grabbed Sollux's arm, stopping him from getting in the car. "There's a park near here, with a pond and everything...We could go there to be alone."
Sollux pretended to think about it for a few minutes, but really, he knew from the minute Eridan said it that he'd agree. "Okay."
Eridan actually held his hand as they walked through the lush grass towards the pond, not talking much.
"I used to come here with my ex-girlfriend," Eridan finally said. "She kinda tainted the place, so I thought maybe we could make new memories here. Better ones." His smile was so hopeful and innocent that Sollux couldn't resist leaning over and kissing him while they walked. Eridan froze for a split second, but then kissed back.
"Of course we can," Sollux said.
They sat down at the edge of the pond, but soon wound up laying in the grass in a tangle of limbs, just like in Eridan's bed the night before.
"This is nice," Eridan said quietly, carding his fingers through Sollux's silky, black hair. "I want it to be like this all the time as much as you do. I'm just scared...We don't know what he'll do."
"I know. I'm not gonna push you to tell him. But we're not going back to you pushing me around and treating me like trash at school. I shouldn't have put up with it as long as I did, but now I got a taste of what it's like for it to be different, and there's no way I'm going back." It felt like his heart was going to burst right out of his chest, but he had to say it. "If you're not willing to at least be civil to me in public, I can't do this."
It was silent for a long time, and Sollux actually started to fear that Eridan was going to end it. The fingers in his hair had fallen still. After almost ten minutes, he heard a tiny, stifled sob.
"I'm so sorry, Sol," Eridan breathed, voice cracking and tears starting to fall as he clutched him tighter. "I'm so sorry I hurt you for so long. I really don't deserve you."
"It's okay," he replied. "It's okay, I know." It didn't make all of those things hurt any less, but he really did know that Eridan felt awful about having done them. "Just promise you won't do it again."
"I promise. I love you so much, Sol." Sollux shakily wiped away Eridan's tears, feeling some well up in his own eyes. Before too long, they were both just laying in the grass crying and holding each other.
"We'll figure this out together," Sollux murmured against the soft skin of Eridan's neck.
"Do you really think your dad would let me stay with you?"
"Yeah, I do. He might make you stay in the guest room instead of mine, but he'd definitely let you stay," the Gemini assured.
"I think maybe I'll talk to him tonight, if that's okay," Eridan said hesitantly, playing with the hem of Sollux's shirt.
"That's...wow. Are you sure? I mean, it's okay, but are you sure?" Sollux had no idea how to react.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Like I said, I love you, and I haven't really been the best at showing that all the time, but I want to fix that as much as I can."
When the school day was officially over, Sollux texted his dad to ask if it was okay if he brought a friend home for dinner. At the same time, Eridan told his own father that he was going to a friend's for dinner, and would probably spend the night.
They picked themselves up from the cool grass and walked back to where theyâd parked hand in hand. Eridan gently plucked a small leaf out of Solluxâs hair, laughing.
âHonestly, Sol,â he said. âWhat would you do without me? Youâd constantly look like a wreck.â
âI would not,â Sollux retorted. âI just didnât know there was a leaf in my hair. I look fine most of the time.â
âYou go entire weekends without changinâ your clothes,â the other pointed out, raising an eyebrow skeptically as he unlocked his car. âBut besides that, what are we gonna do about my car? My dad would notice if it was in your driveway or somethinâ...â
Sollux hadnât even thought of that, but once Eridan pointed it out, it seemed pretty obvious. They lived next door to each other, so if Eridanâs car was right there, there was no way his family wouldnât know he was at Solluxâs.
âOh, yeah, shit...â He frowned, unlocking his own car and opening the door while he thought.
âYâknow what, fuck it. Iâll leave it here for the night,â Eridan decided. He got the important things out of it and then got into Solluxâs car.
The drive back to their neighborhood was surprisingly relaxed, considering. They chatted, sang along to the radio, and just didnât think about any of their difficulties. The thought of falling asleep with Eridan in bed with him for the second night in a row did cross Solluxâs mind though.
When they walked into the house, Solluxâs father was visibly surprised that Eridan was the friend his son had brought home. He didnât question it, however, beyond a bewildered âUm, does your father know youâre here?â Eridanâs downright frantic ânoâ was apparently answer enough, since the man just went back to cooking then.
Sitting together doing homework and playing video games before dinner felt completely natural to Sollux, like this was a daily occurrence. The actual meal was uneventful too, with Mr. Captor treating Eridan like just another friend of Solluxâs, and Mituna giving a couple suspicious looks.
A few hours after, when Eridan still showed no signs of preparing to go home, was when things got far less mundane.
Sollux heard the quiet sound of footsteps on the stairs and then in the hall just a moment too late to do anything like pause the movie they were watching or adjust his position into anything other than blatant cuddling with Eridan. They were a tangle of limbs splayed atop the bed, thankfully fully clothed, with Eridanâs head resting on his shoulder, trailing idle kisses down his neck.
âI...â Eridan was completely tensed up as he searched for words, almost like he was prepared to flee.
Simon Captor was about as socially inept as his sons, so at first all he managed was a bit of a chuckle.
âDonât worry, Eridan, I donât mind,â he assured. âI actually had assumed Iâd walk in on a situation like this from the moment you two walked in the door this evening. But going by what I know about your father, Iâm guessing he would be far less...accepting.â
Sollux finally did pause the movie, sitting up a bit. He was tempted to chime in to move the conversation in the right direction, but he knew that he should probably leave that to Eridan.
âYeah, um, youâre right about that,â Eridan agreed hesitantly. After that though, his words seemed to flow much more freely. âHe wouldnât even like me beinâ friends with Sol, much less...this. Anâ I thought I was okay with pretendinâ, even though that meant beinâ completely awful to him at school and barely even havinâ time to sneak around. But thatâs not fair to anyone, especially Sol, and I canât do that anymore. I know this is probably really sudden for you, since you didnât know anythinâ about this âtil now, but...I love him.â His voice cracked, and his hand crept towards Solluxâs, squeezing it gently.
âMaybe this sounds stupid, âcause weâre just teenagers and all, but I really love Sollux, anâ Iâd do anythinâ for him, but if my father finds out about any of this, heâll kick me out,â Eridan finished, barely able to look Simon in the eyes.
âIt doesnât sound stupid,â he finally replied. âHonestly, I think youâre pretty damn brave for realizing the situation wasnât fair and deciding to do something about it.â
The conversation continued awhile longer between the two of them, with Sollux staying mostly silent and continuing to hold Eridanâs hand. Finally, Simon said the words that both teens were hoping for.
âIâll do whatever I can to help you out,â he said. âBut for now, why donât you just stay here for the night, if it wonât get you in any trouble?â
âIâd say Iâd get the guest room ready for you, but I have a feeling youâd wind up back in here anyway,â the eldest Captor quipped with a soft laugh. âJust remember that you two have school tomorrow, so you might want to get some actual sleeping done.â
âDad!â Sollux exclaimed, face flushing red at the implications.
âWell, Iâll leave you two alone now,â Simon said, still smiling as he left the room.
They were both rather embarrassed, but went back to cuddling and watching the movie pretty quickly, not talking about what had just occurred. Sollux leaned in and kissed Eridan, smiling.
âThat went pretty well,â he said, smiling. âI told you itâd be fine.â
âYeah, it did,â Eridan said, nuzzling closer. âIâm really glad your dad didnât mind any of it, even when I admitted weâve been doinâ this since middle school.â
âI think he really was a little surprised by that part, but whatever,â Sollux muttered, unpausing the movie.
By the time they were laying under the covers together like the night before, it really felt like this could become a nightly sort of thing. Eridanâs hands were wandering over his body, smoothing over any inch of exposed skin as he kissed him softly.
âI love you,â Sollux breathed sleepily. âLove you so much, Eri...â
âLove you too,â Eridan replied equally sleepily. âI hope it can be like this all the time.â
âIt will be,â Sollux assured. âI wanna be with you forever.â
Before the conversation could continue much longer, they both drifted off to sleep, without the alarm set extra early for one of them to sneak out the window. For the first time in almost four years, they felt safe together.
âHoly shit, Eridan, you told me this was safe!â Sollux was nearly frantic, staring at the wreckage of the ship theyâd been on just moments before. âI thought it was,â Eridan replied helplessly, opting not to tell him just yet that they were even further away from the mainland than the yellowblood thought.
send me a ship and an au and iâll write you a 3 sentence fic!
Priorities in order as always, Solluxâs first concern was that there was no internet on this island. If that wasnât a problem, it might not be so bad. But it was, and so heâd resorted to continually pacing back and forth across the sand, until Karkat pulled him down to the ground and kissed him to get him to stop complaining.

For the three sentence drabble... can you make a Gamzee/Jade, please?
sure. you didnât give me an au, so iâll just choose the always cliche coffee shop au.
Every morning when Jade walked into the local coffee shop, there was the same goofy looking barista behind the counter to take her order. His face paint was a little unusual, almost creepy at first, but he had the most endearing smile. About a month into their routine of sorts, she noticed a phone number written on the side of her cup.

daverezi for that one au where your soulmates first words are tatted on you? :)
It had been years since she could actually see the tattoo running across her arm, but she often still ran over the surface of it with her fingertips, imagining the day when sheâd hear them spoken to her. She was doing just that in the park when she heard a male voice say âUh, could you move your legs out of my way? Iâm kinda trying to get through.â It was such an innocuous statement, but she knew, wordlessly holding out her arm to show him.

(i went and looked at ur ships for this lol) pairing: dave/terezi AU: trolls are all REALLY BIG. as in not a single one of them is shorter than 7ft
(omg thatâs a beautiful and hilarious au)
Before, Dave thought that height differences when kissing could be kind of cute, in a certain sort of way, not that heâd ever tell anyone that. So when Terezi claimed that she was way taller than him, he didnât worry too much about it. Now though, when he had to practically climb up her like a tree to kiss her, he was rethinking that. Terezi, of course, found it hilarious.
