she’s  been  sitting  on  a  stool  in  the  loft’s  kitchen  for  a  while  now ,  reading  an  article  on  her  phone  &  quietly  sipping  coffee  she  had  helped  herself  to  ( she’s  sure  santana  won’t  mind ) .  quinn  doesn’t  ponder  on  what  santana’s  reaction  to  her  unannounced  visit  would  be ,  but  she  can  only  hope  its  good  --  she  wasn’t  in  the  mood  for  a  verbal  confrontation  today .  so  when  she  hears  the  door  opening ,  she  doesn’t  turn  around ,  instead  keeps  her  gaze  fixated  on  her  phone ,  taking  a  sip  of  her  americano  &  addresses  santana  from  the  kitchen .  “  you  always  did  know  how  to  pick  a  mean  brand  of  coffee ...”

a  constant  source  of  vexation ,  especially  after  lakewood’s  gruesome  murders  began ,  leaving  quinn  persistently  panicked  &  in  constant  wonder  about  her  safety  ( her  mom’s  safety ) ,  &  the  fate  of  her  peers .  tragedy  liked  to  follow  her  wherever  she  went ,  though  realistically ,  she’s  aware  this  calamity  had  nothing  to  do  with  her  re-arrival  to  the  eerie  town .  even  lakewood  high’s  hallway  had  a  sinister  quality ,  navigating  the  red  tinted  lockers  after  an  impromptu  visit  to  the  counselor’s  office .  she  told  very  few  about  her  struggles ,  but  ultimately ,  quinn  was  attempting  to  change  her  behavior ,  forbidding  herself  to  bottle  her  problems  &  let  them  overwhelm  her .  she  would  not  commit  the  same  mistakes  she  did  in  lima .

its  her  desire  to  hold  off  on  returning  to  her  english  class  though ,  that  allows  her  to  witness  jake  ducking  into  an  empty  classroom  ( didn’t  he  have  math  at  this  hour ? ) .  curiosity  makes  her  follow ,  eyebrows  creasing  together  as  she  wonders  what  he  could  be  up  to ;  he’s  been  acting  strange ,  though  not  particularly  out  of  character ,  but  when  she  quietly  opens  the  door  after  he  disappears  behind  it  &  sees  the  little  bag  of  white  powder ,  a  sickening  line  on  the  teacher’s  desk ,  &  a  ghostly  look  on  jake’s  face  ,  quinn’s  inquisitiveness  turns  into  unsettled  anger .  next  thing  she  knows ,  she’s  snatching  the  bag  from  jake’s  hand  with  gritted  teeth .  “  what  the  hell  do  you  think  you’re  DOING ,  jake ?  are  you  out  of  your  MIND ? ”

“  &  i  apparently  have  a  future  as  a  medical  practitioner ...”  she  masks  her  worry  with  a  humorous  dab  at  his  attempt  to  break  the  tension ;  she  appreciates  it ,  appreciates  him .  once  she’s  sure  he’s  cleaned  up ,  she  discards  the  used  material  from  the  first  aid  kit .  gently ,  she  runs  her  fingers  through  sam’s  hair ,  before  her  hand  settles  on  his  jaw .  affection  shows  she  cares  about  sam  in  vast  proportions .  “  i’m  glad  you’re  not  starting  them .  i’m  also  glad  you’re  okay . i  worry  about  you ,  you  know ? ”

Sam didn’t exactly tell his friends that QUINN FABRAY would be coming over to their hang out spot. He told them he had company, which they took the completely wrong way. They didn’t take much convincing and Sam received pats on the back and cheers of ‘GET SOME!’ But it wasn’t like that, and he could have actually punched his friends for talking about Quinn in that way, even if they didn’t know it was her they were talking about. It still infuriated him. Sam’s intentions were purely innocent. He really wanted to get to know Quinn, not get her into bed.

Sam observed Quinn’s uncertainty on where to sit, and he quickly shrugged his leather jacket off and handed it to her. “You can sit on this if you want.” He lightly laughed, before sitting down on the couch casually, bringing one foot to rest upon his knee. “Uh yeah. Yeah, they’re fine I mean we all kinda share the place so it’s not like we need permission or anything, we just tell each other to NOT BE HERE. You know? What about your friends?” He challenged with a smirk. “Do they know you’re hanging out here with a SKANK?” He gasped for dramatic effect. 

her  last  intention  was  to  come  off  as  standoffish ;  while  she  had  an  unmistakable  talent  for  pretending  lionization  of  her  own  celebrity  was  the  only  thing  she  cared  about ,  she  found  it  difficult  to  feign  a  pseudo  sense  of  narcissism  around  sam  (  quinn  fabray  was  more  than  what  met  the  eye ) .  for  once ,  she  felt  like  she  didn’t  have  to  fulfil  an  invisible  expectation .  she  could  be  herself ,  no  shiny ,  red  cheer - leading  skirt ,  no  high  pony  that  entitled  her  to   fabricated  power  &  entitlement .  obviously  sam  didn’t  have  an  interest  in  the  superficial  nonsense  of  mckinley  high . 

“  thank  you... ”  she  has  to  admire  his  chivalry ;  it  suited  him ,  despite  the  paradox  between  his  grunge  aesthetic  &  his  actions .  she  casually  wraps  sam’s  jacket  around  her  waist ,  casually  taking  a  seat  beside  him ,  crossing  one  leg  over  the  other .  his  inquiry  makes  her  visibly  fidget ,  biting  down  on  her  bottom  lip  before  she  lets  out  a  breathy  chuckle .  “ believe  it  or  not ,  i  don’t  tell  my  friends  everything  i’m  doing .  its  not  exactly  a  conversation  you  bring  up  to  someone  like  santana  or  brittany on  the  fly .  i  like  you  sam ,  but  my  friends  always  stick  their  noses  where  they  don’t  belong  &  you  don’t  deserve  to  put  up  with  that  just  yet .”

she  knows  she  shouldn’t  be  SNOOPING  through  santana’s  private  affairs ,  but  she  has  to  wonder  what  had  gotten  her  so  riled  up .  realistically ,  she  knows  santana’s  more  than  capable  of  catching  up  to  her ,  especially  when  quinn  is  trying  to  evade  her  &  read  something  from  the  book  while  she  descends  down  her  stairs ,  but  she  pauses  at   the  bottom ,  scrolling  through  pages  she’s  not  really  READING  ( she’d  rather  get  the  confession  from  santana  herself ) ,  muttering  under  her  breath .  “ i  knew  she  was  lying  about  the  money ...”

“  sure ,  santana .  money .  that  makes  complete  sense ...”  she’s  not  buying  it ,  but  for  santana’s  sake ,  she  pretends  to  take  the  bait .  quinn  turns  around ,  pulling  her  backpack  from  the  floor  &  sliding  santana’s  enigma  of  a  book  from  inside  --  that  is  until  she  practically  waves  it  in  front  of  santana’s  face  &  makes  a  run  for  it  ( ! )  .
