The Sad Truth About My Childhood Role Model
Growing up I used to look up to this one girl... she was a smart , Strong, Independent, Ā highly educated and very passionate about what she believed and was basically a person who i believed was a very forward thinker in terms of race, culture and gender issues especially for our cultural community.
Ā I had a talk to her today in the car and I couldnāt believe some of the things she was saying, iām not sure if its just because iām older now which leads me to analyse her words differently than how I did when i was younger or if she herself has changed but the summary of the conversation or rather her lecture to me was that if we get ābombā of all Muslim immigrants in the country then we would be all better off, she then went on about how all taxi drivers are illegal immigrants and how we should get rid of them too.
It amazes me that someone that I looked up to and considered a role model could be so ignorant and down right racist especially because we both came from a Muslim immigrant families.... I can understand if she doesnāt believe in Islam but what i canāt understand is how she can justify stereotyping a group of people and then suggest that we should ābombā them for the world to be a better place...
For the world to be a better place, we need less people thinking like her and more people being accepting, understanding and generally just nice human beings.
I got out of the car today sadly disillusioned and honestly disappointing about someone i used to believe was amazing...
Growing up isnāt fun....
