practicing self care less out of self love and more for the sheer logical reasoning of it’d be kinda stupid of me to expect myself to be able to function without proper maintenance
“oh i don’t deserve rest and relaxation, i haven’t done enough, i haven’t earned it” and my car’s breaks don’t deserve break fluid because they aren’t breaking well enough to earn it. that’s what you sound like!!!!!
just thought y’all should know this post has gotten so much traction that my own roommate has referenced it and i never even, like, sent it to her, and she’s not even active on tumblr.
any time somebody says something like 'but! but! do you really want to have to take meds for the rest of your life?' all I can think is 'would you stop wearing your prescription eyeglasses to drive your car?' because lemme tell you, that thing where the optometrist turns little wheels and switches pieces of glass around until suddenly you can actually read signs for the first time ever and it's like magic? Why would you not want that for your brain that doesn't make dopamine the way it's supposed to?????
it's better for everyone if you are not running pedestrians over with a 2 ton car, in every practical and metaphorical sense. It's a win-win situation. Everybody gets to go where they need to go and nobody gets randomly killed at every single 3 way intersection or merge lane.
Backrooms lava lamp no. 3
Level Fun is one of the most terrifying Backrooms levels in my opinion, both aesthetically and dangerously. Can you imagine an entity of unknown size and shape barreling towards you beneath an infinite ballpit, plastic orbs shooting out at all angles while loud air inflating sounds drone on in an otherwise dead background. Oh yeah and the bouncy floor runs the risk of actually swallowing you whole if you stop moving!? Hell to the no.
"One time a piano student asked me: 'Why play the piano if these days my tablet or smartphone can do it automatically better than me?'
He then showed me several apps that played music using scores.
I explained to him: 'Your cell phone always plays that Debussy score in exactly the same way. You, on the other hand, with your emotions and flaws, will never play the score the same way twice. You will not play the same way on a sunny day when you have just fallen in love as on a cloudy day when a relative has just died. Music is not just a score - you too are part of the music. Art includes you in the experience; your human imperfections are also part of the work.'"
- Nobuo Suzuki, Wabi Sabi: The Wisdom in Imperfection
Reminds me of the time my boyfriend was struggling on the banjo. He told me his mother grew up being reprimanded by her piano teacher for any deviations from the music as previously composed. It gave her a lot of problems (duh).
Fast forward to him struggling past a mental block on his banjo, he’s doing scales and replaying one of the songs he knew, pretty rigid but not unpleasant, and I asked if I could futz around on it.
I have neither training nor skill in any instrument aside from some dabbling on the piano and kalimba, (oh and I had a guitar i later gave to a friend, i forgor) I just wanted to make some pretty noises, and so I start plucking away and mostly just letting it flow, and he said (later) that he was jealous of how freely I was playing.
He’s gotten a lot better and had more fun since

Adobe is going to spy on your projects. This is insane.
For general graphics: use GIMP For vector graphics: use Inkscape For drawing and illustration: use Krita For print and web publishing and design: use Penpot For PDF authoring: use LibreOffice For PDF reading and form filling: use Okular
All are free, open source and cross-platform. None use AI.
Reblog for everyone
friends don't let friends use GIMP. use photopea
