I've recently started to accept that I'm some level of aromantic on top of being asexual, which got me thinking a lot about what love looks like to me and what my understanding of it is.

The thing is, I'm autistic and don't know how else to communicate my thoughts on it.

So instead, here's 10 relationships in media that have helped redefined love and what it means to me on a fundamental level.

Evan and Sam, from Misfits and Magic

Love is home being another person. Love is comfort and safety and the knowledge that not only do they like your company, but they actively want it too. Love is them seeing you for who you are, and trusting them when they tell you they love who they see. Love is getting a sofa for them to crash on whenever they want.

Kasuga and nomoto, from she loves to cook she loves to eat

Love is quiet moments. Love is sharing a meal, and it tasting better because the other person is around. Love is wanting nothing more than to be each other's family. Love can be slow and steady and still just as meaningful. Love is being able to decide with your partner what you want your relationship to be, no matter what the rest of the world expects from you instead.

Love is being irreplaceable to each other. Love is being fun and silly. Love means doing whatever you can to make sure you still have the life you built together. Love is your own personal hell being completely the same as your regular life but without them in it.

Love is communication. It's respecting boundaries and not letting the tension simmer until it boils over. Love is taking the weight off their shoulders when they need it. Love is not wanting to just be protected, but for you both to protect each other. Love is learning about each other little by little every day, and being excited to know more about them every time.

Love is kind and gentle. Love is feeling lost without them. Love is both of you doing whatever you can to stay together. Love is being together for ages and still feeling giddy around each other. Love is never getting tired of being able to look at them. Love is an experience.

Love is relying on each other. Love is meeting the other person where they're at. Love is seeing them in a way no one else does, and loving them at their lamest. Love is matching each others freak, whatever that looks like. Love is equal and honest. Love is wanting to do things, big or small, for each other all the time.

Love is grief biding it's time. Grief is love never leaving you. Love is not wanting them to be alone when you're gone. Love is looking for them everywhere when they leave. Love is fond memories and patience. Love is wishing you had just a little bit more time together. Love is finding and planting their favorite flower in their memory.

Betty and Simon, from Adventure Time/Fionna and Cake

Love can be heartbreaking, but it can still be worth it. Love is understanding and aching all the same. Love is wanting to keep them safe no matter what. Love is being able to say goodbye but never being able to forget them. Love is them being your everything. Love is still accepting that you have to let them go anyway. Love is moving forward in their memory.

Love is hard work, but that's part of what makes it so special. Love is balancing each other out. Loving is doing for them what they always do for you. Love is being in each other's corner when it counts. Love is growing older together and being goofy. Love is wanting to be with them in any capacity, even in death.

Love is a promise. Love is finding compromises to meet in the middle. Love is a song that's both hopeful and sad at the same time. Love is thinking about them all the time when you're apart. Love is anticipating the next moment where you can see them again. Love is missing someone. Love is returning home to them.

I have other ships in media that almost made the list, but these specifically are the ones with moments that ring in my head now when I think about loving someone.

I want more content of Grace suffering of scurvy, but more specifically I want more of Rocky reacting to Grace slowly dying in front of him, while he can't do nothing but trying to comfort him. I just want Grace and Rocky trying their best to pretend they are fine and that everything is going to be okay, even when they are not sure of this.

Imagine with me that trip to Erid once Grace is been affected by his lack of food:

Grace trying (very wrongly) to lift spirits by making dark jokes about how he was so concern about the radiation that he had not thought about the scurvy.

Grace soothing himself by remembering his days as a teacher by explaining Rocky how the scurvy is affecting him.

Rocky who have more food that he could ever eat in their way to Erid (things that happen when your mission was always to go back home with your 22 coworkers, and now is only you), and not been able to give any to his friend who needs it.

Rocky who decides to go eat less that what he needs for empathy to Grace and he would have keep doing it, if it wasn't for Grace who begged him to eat for the sake of Erid, because they couldn't risk to lose the taumeba just because they both were sick.

Rocky who notices how Grace is sleeping more and more, each time with a weaker breath and pulse.

Rocky's accidental thumps against Grace leaving dark bruises in Grace's skin.

Grace coughing blood, the effort making him cry a little, and then commenting that for Rocky he had to "seem very leaky right now no, jaja?", but Rocky not saying anything, just getting closer to Grace.

Rocky who once again starts eating less, because eating makes him sleepy and he has to watch Grace sleep. Grace sleeps most of the time now.

Rocky fighting against his own need to sleep, finding funny that now is him who doesn't want to go to sleep and Grace the one who wants do it all the time.

Rocky remembering that his friends also died like this; slowly and painfully, getting tired and tired, sleeping more and more, until they didn't wake up.

Rocky speaking specially loudly and high becuase that makes Grace stay awake longer.

Rocky singing eridian lullabies to Grace.

Rocky trying to knit blankets (with any material he can find) for Grace, who is having goosebumps and spams.

Grace who gets more easily irritated and have outburts against Rocky, to then broke in tears and ask him to forgive hin, Rocky never takes it personally and he always forgive him, because he knows is the fever and hunger speaking, not Grace, not really.

Extra: They getting to Erid.

In my mind when they got to Erid both of them were in very bad shape, Rocky been the only one conscious, but barely.

Rocky getting out of the Hail Mary explained everything to the scientists in a rush babbling in frenzy things like: "Grace and I found the solution, a cure to save the stars", " a predator, we found a predator", "you can't get in the ship, his atmosphere has oxigen, it would burn you, and is so cold it would freeze you", "You...you can't get him out of the ship, our atmosphere is toxic to him, and it would melt him.", "He needs food, he needs medicine, treatment.", "He is a hero, he is my best friend"

Rocky who doesn't move from Hail Mary door, blocking the entrance to the others eridians, until he looks at Adrian and runs to be besides them, to lean on them and hide between their arms "He needs to surive, he can't die, not after...not after he save me, he can't die" and Adrian who is very confuse and happy to have their mate there with them, promise him that they are going to make sure that his friend survives.

Rocky who after hearing that promise can finally relax, and having a moment of coherence let himself take the presence and contact of Adrian against him and says "I missed you so much." To then fall sleep on the spot because he have been pushing himself to the limit for weeks.

fyi to those of you who still haven't read the phm book, you're missing out on some pretty hardcore Yearning after grace & rocky part ways. there's whole chapters of grace like, staring sadly after rocky's departing ship in the petrovascope every single day while thinking mournfully about how great his best friend is and how much he wishes rocky was there, before doing an insane amount of complicated relativistic math to calculate the exact moment when he'll no longer be able to see the blip-a's light in the distance bc he already misses rocky so much. it's great stuff
