I currently have the enviable job up uploading a series of survey results into an spreadsheet for my museum. One respondent rated us 8 out of 9. 

So far, so good. But when they get to the question about how their experience could have been improved, their answer was simple:

“More things please.”

Dear Visitor - Could you elaborate on these…”things” that  we need more of? Are these things that you’d like to see? Sculptures? Paintings? Prints? Photographs? Or, perhaps you meant things you’d like to read? Kiosks? Wall Text? Rack Cards? Things you’d like to do? Interpretation stations? Tours? 

We currently have four floors worth of “things” of various types. There are many things in this world, and in order to improve the experience for next time, we’re gonna need a little more direction there.

I find it amazing and almost magical that I can catalog a specimen from 1962, look up who collected it, and discover he must have prepared it as a student. It's held up beautifully, Dr. James D. Rising (he's retired, and studied birds) #studyskin #biology

you hear this whole “not like the other girls” thing espoused by young women and reiterated in romantic comedies over and over.  it’s the idea that she’s a “real girl” who’s “different” because she’s NOT giggly, concerned with her appearance, anti-intellectual, obsessed with boys, vapid, etc.  

it’s no wonder girls end up feeling like they’re different from “other girls”.  women aren’t stereotypes, we’re human beings.
