The tariffs situation of last year knocked me on my ass and a bit of burnout on top of that caused me to fall behind... I really got in my own head about doll making for a while there. I'm feeling a lot more confident again, sewing is fun actually!!

On top of that, I've been having a lot of fun with my sublimation! An artist I've followed online in the JP plush space released a lovely Nui pattern on their shops
I was working on my own Nui pattern last year when I felt the urge, but this is basically what I wanted exactly... So I snatched it up!!! I do want to make one with more leg going on but for now I'm just enjoying myself with this one!

I'm getting the hang of making them a bit more layered and complicated, without making them /too/ layered and complicated, if ya know what I mean. These are meant to be simple and fun and remake-able! So I don't want to get bogged down in the nitty gritty.
On that note, I've been doing conventions again! I tabled at AEX in PEI earlier this year, and went to Animaritime the other week. I really do enjoy grinding out stock for a convention, but damnnnnn I'm tired! I need a break!! I'm on one right this moment!
I debuted this style of Nui at Animaritime and was so worried that the higher price point would scare people off, but people barely even registered they cost money. The Krislings and G'raha Tia nuis flew off my table within the first hour. People were ravenous!!!
This has given me a nice confidence boost, I must admit. I've always preferred making character dolls, but things like bats were just easier to make and sell, because my usual character doll fair is CUSTOM and COMPLICATED and EXPENSIVE IN TIME. So having a version I can more speedily make AND remake is huge for me. I want to make my dolls more accessible and this is a great way to go about it!
I plan on just making new designs and doing lil shopfills now and then. I'd also like to see if I can get into a bigger con like Anime North next year and see if I can knock their socks off! Lots of people only sell like, prints and charms! Why can't I just sell Nuis??? No one can stop me!!!
The reception to the Kris Nuis has also been pretty overwhelmingly positive, with a lot of people asking where to buy them, so I plan on doing a shopfill over on Ko-fi next month. I'd like to do 10 of each, with maybe a couple Kumatora's just to add a bit of variety haha.
I'll probably also open up commissions sometime this fall. I'll be returning to putting everyone in a big pot (google form) and picking out options as I feel good about taking one. Last time I did 10 slots but ended up taking 14 dolls... That was a mistake... I have re-learned my limitations. Thank you to everyone who was patient with me while I remembered I was human.
As always I'll be updating where when I have a firm date I plan on re-opening slots. I'll also be taking nui commissions this time! I think it'd be fun to also allow commissioners who choose the nui option to buy extras at the standard non-commission cost, in case they want to give their FF14 oc to their static mates or something. (Throwing out fake numbers, so for example if a commission was 150$ I'd be willing to do extras for like 60$ extra each or something. The work was already put into the custom design phase, so it'd just be standard pricing for remakes!).
Also the CPSC united states bullshit is happening, which as always, affects me, as a Canadian who mainly sells to America. AS OF NOW, UNTESTED, There are codes I can apparently use as well as the option to ship to the states without my CUSMA tariff-exemption according to my courier service. So if worse comes to worse, I'm still able to ship down to the USA. Tariffs are now 10% instead of 30%, so while it'll increase shipping costs, it's a lot more manageable a bullet to eat than it was last year.
I'm on vacation rn and will be doing a stint in the hospital soon (I'm fine), so I'll figure out if shipping to the USA is good next month once the dust has settled some.
