A concept: A Star Is Born but it’s jimmy and robert
okay 1. I totally did not watch ASIB just because of this ask and 2. anon you can’t just send me stuff like this and expect me not to want to write a 200k slow burn fic based on it what the hell
I’m just so blown away by how well this works. Jimmy is 100% Jack, the established (blues rock) musician who has an intimate relationship with his music; he’s pretty damn proud of it but it never seems to come out just right, you know? He has yet to find a voice for his songs, someone who truly understands him and his art and that causes him a lot of distress to the point in which he even wonders if there is a point in making music if it isn’t just as he envisions it. His stay in the music industry is accompanied by alcohol, hard drugs and constant misery.
The moment he hears Robert sing for the first time in a shady bar he realizes he’s found it. His voice. And perhaps maybe more.
They play together and write together and eventually they fall in love. It’s not something any of them wants to admit at first because it’s goddamn scary. The morning Robert wakes up to the thought of Jimmy and the feeling of love swelling up in his chest, he panics. He knows Jimmy isn’t good for him; he is both his rise and fall.
To his credit, Jimmy does try to get better for Robert, and when Robert gets the chance to make it big, he does everything in his power not to be the one to ruin it. He really tries, but addiction isn’t something you can get away from that easy. It’s a disease that consumes Jimmy’s entire being at this point.
So he fucks up. Again and again.
Ugly words are spoken and hearts get broken. And each time it happens Robert forgives him.
Jimmy wishes he didn’t. Because it’s harder to forgive yourself than earn your loved one’s forgiveness.
When Jimmy singlehandedly almost destroys Robert’s entire career, he is sure there is no chance of forgiveness.
Ending it all just seems so much easier. For him. Perhaps for Robert too.
