❝ Well, yeah ! You look way, way younger than – that. I thought you were my age or, I dunno ; twenty-ish? ❞ Honestly, Marty wasn’t very good with pegging people’s ages. He knew he looked younger than he was, that was for sure.
It was likely obvious that the teen was having some difficulty processing everything that was being said. Though, she did have him at one point ; seeing her through that window wasn’t something he could easily dismiss like her age or her peculiar vernacular. And Marty liked to believe he could be as open minded as anyone in his generation could possibly get. After all ; Doc had taught him to believe in the impossible & if he put his mind to it, anything was possible.
As of right now, that particular subject of anything was growing at an exponential rate. Wide-eyed and mouth agape, Marty finds himself holding his breath as the fine emerald glitter passed between her lips and spiraled about. There wasn’t any FEAR etched within azure gaze ; wonderment easily taking over as a hand reached forward to graze any of the little flecks of – stardust…
❝ Whoa… ❞ Marty exclaims, breathless and unblinking. Staring off into the distance until the last of the glinting dust fades away. ❝ How…? ❞ He asks, though the query is barely audible as only a soft whisper of bafflement. But his chest is heaving with exasperation as she continues. How in the hell was he supposed to get any kind of question out with a word limit?!
❝ This – this is way too H E A V Y ! I mean, that was I N S A N E. But so freakin’ cool at the same time and !! How did you- H O W– ?! ❞
Obviously Marty was having a hard time articulating a proper sentence from being so astounded. A hand rubbing down his flushed face, reeling in his lack of composure before attempting to speak again. At least the trepidation had left his system by now. Cheeks puffing up as he held a breath, releasing it in an attempt to get his act back together.
‘Alright, McFly, get a grip. Think logically, like Doc always says.’
“Sorry, this is all a lot to take in all at once, y’know? “ Another brief pause, glancing over a shoulder at the inside of the DeLorean. ❝ O K A Y. You’re basically an E.T. that breathes… stardust. I can work with that. Alright. But you can help me, if I show you the car? ❞ He’s squinting at her again. How could he know he could trust her? Anyone could act innocent & sweet, then leave him stranded in time – or dead.
❝ I’m not so sure breathing on the time circuits is gonna get them to work. ❞
❝ Wait - yer not in yer twenties? I swear, I can never tell anyone’s ages anymore. ❞
She scratched her head, ruffling her wild hair a bit. Was it illegal for minors to time travel here? Or was that a morally grey thing?
Personally, she was still young and stupid so maybe she shouldn’t judge. But where she came from, there were laws about kids messing with time unless you were a traveler. The sole purpose of them was to fix time and not have reckless kids messing it up again.
❝ Do you, uh, need yer parents to sign a permission slip or somethin’? I dunno if it’s illegal fer me to jus’ take ya through time. ❞
His excitement is enough to make her pink cheeks light up scarlet. It wasn’t every day that people found her so amazing without wanting to cut her open and steal her stardust. But he seemed so innocent and curious about this new idea that the world was more than what he was probably taught as a kid. She knew how special that was.
❝ I ain’t jus’ gonna breathe on ‘em, ya dork, ❞ she said, still sure that ‘dork’ was a word kids still said. Maybe.
❝ A car’s jus’ like any otha machine - ya see what’s inside of ‘em, get ‘em ta open up ta ya an’ then it just becomes like, I dunno, a pet? You humans like keepin’ dogs an’ stuff an’ yer not sure how they work, just picture a machine like a more complicated dog. ❞
The alien was still blushing with embarrassment.
❝ Well, okay, if that doesn’t work, yeah I’ll breathe on it or somethin’, ❞ she cracked a smile at him, hoping the joke would calm him down some.
