September 18, 2023 I held my father’s hand while he took his last breath
September 10, 2024 I got a call that my older brother had taken his own life
September 14, 2024 I said goodbye to a beloved cat who had changed my life
September 10, 2025 I got the news that my cat I rescued in July has squamous cell carcinoma in his face and would have to be put down
September 13, 2025 I say goodbye to my boy Statler
Loss follows but one thing remains…everyone who has ever been there for me passed or living will always remain my anchor lights
This poem is called
Anchorlight
You are my Anchorlight
Your love is holding me through the night
When my feelings are ashes buried deep
It cradles me in dreams when I fall asleep
In the dark you take my hand
Giving me a place for my heart to land
Though the fog grows thick and I cannot see
Your light is still there, guiding me
You call me “sister,” you call me “daughter,”
Through fire, through grief, through endless water.
A father’s wisdom, a brother’s song,
A love that endures, that keeps me strong.
My mother’s strength, my best friend’s care,
My lover’s laughter filling the air.
The paws of our Statler, curled at our side,
The joy of my niece and nephews, bright-eyed.
Even in silence, even in loss,
Your light remains, no matter the cost.
In every shadow, in every fight,
I carry the glow of my Anchorlight.
It shines in laughter, in gentle embrace,
In every warm and familiar place.
The love that surrounds me, steadfast and bright,
Forever my beacon, my Anchorlight
