F*cking AY!
I think one of the things that increasingly bothers me about modern feminism is the fact that, at its heart, it’s so virulently anti-femininity; it claims to be working for equality, and does so at the expense of celebrating anything that makes women or men special, in ways that overwhelmingly hurts women by reducing them, in so many ways, to lesser men.
want to have children? want to be a homemaker? Sorry, the women who did that for thousands of years were just weak and oppressed, if you want to be empowered you’ve got to reject all of that. “Well-behaved women rarely make history” means that to make a difference and leave your mark you need to act like a man - not that the nurses, the midwives, the women making a difference behind the scenes, are just as valuable as the conquerers.
We’re all equal, so sorry, you’re not a fantastic female athlete; you’re a decent human athlete. Forget the fact that the boys at my high school had to break the women’s pole vault world record to earn their varsity letter, Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth once so there’s no reason male MMA fighters shouldn’t get the opportunity to try to beat female fighters to death.
Promiscuity and casual sex is empowering, and forget the fact that it’s overwhelmingly damaging to women. Women should try and get over the “hang-ups” that they use to protect themselves, even though women who sleep around before marriage are overwhelmingly more likely to end up divorced afterwards. Use sex to get what you want, ignore that the ones this mindset is ultimately empowering are lowlifes like Harvey Weinstein.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that most of the men caught up in the Hollywood scandals claimed to be feminists, or that conservative women who showed up at women’s marches were attacked by male feminists. I don’t think lowlifes like this are solely adopting these labels to try and make themselves appear nonthreatening, or to get laid; I think it’s because it’s ultimately an ideology that can benefit them.
Claiming that women can do anything men can do isn’t a celebration of women, or empowering or whatever else, and ultimately it isn’t true. If you refuse to acknowledge that there’s anything inherently valuable in the things women can do better, the things that men can’t do, then you’re hurting women far more than you’re helping them.
Excellent post! Well said, @kompanie-mutter.
