either you or whoever you reblogged from deleted my commentary from underneath the image, so actually, i did but someone decided to take it and do with it as they pleased (which they have every right to since this is the internet, hence my feeling obligated to reblog with further explanation)

i admit that my original commentary may have seemed ambiguous in regard to my own ideas about the subject, since intent is sometimes difficult to convey when being concise on the internet. next time, i will make sure to be more direct (see my edited post)

however, whether or not i agreed with the statement in the photo, the fact remains that men don't experience sexism, so honestly, my commentary really doesn't make a difference. my clarification is, really, only to save my reputation on the internet from the misunderstanding that i might, in fact, believe in the fantasy that is reverse sexism.

She is the pageant director of the Miss Indian Transgender competition, which is designed to bring visibility to transgender people in the Native community and the issues they face.

“There are numerous issues that affect transgender people in their everyday life. One of the most challenging of these issues is gender identity. Some girls don’t know how to come out to their families, who reside on the reservations, about their lifestyles. When girls come to the city they are able to be themselves, instead of living in the closet. Another issue is employment. Since most girls are unable to be themselves in the work place, they have to find an alternate way of surviving in the city. Stigma is another issue affecting transgender women since the majority of the general population is not educated about transgenderism; they automatically assume they are “men in a dress.”

She is also a tobacco-program liaison for Native Health, an urban Native American organization, coordinating programs to prevent smoking-related injuries or deaths. She is attempting to fuse smoking and HIV/AIDS policies together.

She is a member of the Arizona American Indian HIV Task Force, HIV Prevention Planning Group of Arizona, Central Arizona HIV Prevention Advocates and the National Native CPG Network. For her work, she received the 2008 Marty Prairie Award for the work she has done in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Native community.

The thing that sucks about those shows is that millions of black people look at them and can relate on so many levels to Hannah Horvath and Charlotte York and George Costanza, and yet those characters never look like us. The guys begging for money look like us. The mad black chicks telling white ladies to stay away from their families look like us. Always a gangster, never a rich kid whose parents are both college professors. After a while, the disparity between our affinity for these shows and their lack of affinity towards us puts reality into stark relief: When we look at Lena Dunham and Jerry Seinfeld, we see people with whom we have a lot in common. When they look at us, they see strangers.
