a new poem about a new lover
i am leaving all that I have ever known but you will forever remind me of home
please keep your accent even in the places no one will understand
please keep the mountains in your heart so i can continue to keep them in mine
and the house on the hill will belong to someone else all too soon but looking into your eyes will bring me back to the lazy days spent in the dust of my upright where the keys are cracked
but that isn't why it hurts to play
your eyes keep me blissfully illogical
and i wish i had known you when your father was sick so we could have belt abbey road to lessen the blow
all that is evidence is the chain around you neck
and my mother celebrated 46 on the day that he had left you
and when you celebrate 46 i will rub your back and make sure he knows i will always protect you
i am finding it hard to write of you because i have only known poetry in the light of my pain
no need to write when i am no longer waiting for the world to beg me to stay
-
i am leaving all that i have ever known but you will forever remind me of home
you will be far, too, but the image of you humming the beach boy in a warm bath belonging to a tennessee cabin is enough to get me through this eve of parting
i wanted to say i loved you long before we did but i resisted in preparation of this eve of parting
i did not want to depend on my dependence of you
i did not want to distract myself from feeling every feeling that comes with this age
these feelings make the world more real than i am used to
and many times do i question your reality
feeling your warmth has me convinced of a future of laugh and light
i love this land, i love its people, i love that i am alive to witness it
yet you make this experience all the more vibrant
and there are moments where i want to drive to evarts early in the morning to manically thank you for simply being around
thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!
my god, thank you!
you are dew
-
i am leaving all that i have ever known
leaving a childhood that ended long ago
nostalgia will possess my bones
and i will kiss your lips years from now in a blank apartment of a blank faced city, after the hill has already crumbled, and still feel harlan burning joyously
you will forever remind me of home
