Lady Bug on a Leaf
I took this a few weeks ago while strolling through the Bywater of New Orleans one evening. I'm in the process of moving back to town after a six-month stay in the country and can't wait to be home!
Enjoy this picture of the day!

Two pics for the day. I snapped these on Monday right after a little rain shower.
A few snapshots taken today...
Mystery Plants
Last spring, I planted some seeds which never sprouted. Among the ones I remember planting were lavender and oregano. This year, I've had a couple of "mystery plants" sprout up out of some pots and can't remember what I'd planted in which pot and am wondering what these may be. These may or may not be from the same batch of seeds.
They're about 9"-10" tall and look a lot alike, though the larger one does have some tiny white and yellowish flowers growing on it.
If anyone can help identify the two plants below, I'd so appreciate it!
In Love with the Garden: An Exploration of Passion and Magick in Plants and Photography
Having actually forgotten about this blog, I rediscovered it right around the time I began to get more serious than ever about two of my favorite hobbies: gardening and photography. I seem to remember my original plan for creating this blog was to display random shots of interesting things I encountered where ever I might have been, often photographed with only my Blackberry.
I captured many interesting things with that Blackberry, but it has gone into hibernation during my relocation to Ponchatoula, Louisiana, where I've resided and watched over a friend's home for the past seven months. A few days after moving, my phone service would no longer work as I was so far out in the country that I had to discontinue service. Also discontinued was using the phone's camera to take pictures of things.
Instead, I picked up my real cameras again, and started re-teaching myself how to capture images of things I came across that I loved and experienced first hand. Living in the country and having a whole lot of extra solitary time opened the doors to two hobbies I'd previously only dabbled in. One being the aforementioned photography and another being gardening.
It started out with taking pictures of my surroundings. This is a natural process for me, this photographing of my present environment. I find it helps in truly taking in and appreciating what is here, present, now, adoring that moment and the magic therein so much as to want to create an everlasting memory of it. So, that is what I do. I take pictures of what I love. I create forever memories of moments and experiences that might otherwise be overlooked.
That is only a small fraction of what this blog is about. It is also about discovery. Discovery of ones surroundings, discovery of new ways of living, discovery of self. An exploration of nature reveals that tiny miracles are taking place all around us every single second of every day. Some of the most amazing miracles are those of the plant in bloom, a baby seedling sprouting, a playful lizard darting across the screened in porch, devouring insects. It is in these things that I have discovered true magick and joy.
That, and getting my hands dirty. As in, getting down in the dirt, digging up soil, planting seeds, watching them grow into glorious plants. From sweet-smelling blossoms to herbs that withstand the harshest conditions, I've been indulging in gardening for a little over ten years, only just within the last year or so becoming more serious about it. There is nothing quite like the feeling of fresh, cool earth between ones fingers, especially when putting something equally wonderful back in it.
With that said, I suppose this is an okay beginning to this journal. There will be pictures. There will be blogs. There will be lots of plants, gardening experiences and possibly gardening tips in the future. There will be things I love and find beautiful in the world photographed and shared with the reader here as I embark on yet another new journey in creating. While this is starting out for mostly personal enjoyment, it would be super cool if anything I end up sharing makes someone else smile. Better yet, if it inspired anyone to plant something!
On with the magick!
