Here's my yap on why Navi is exactly what horizons needs.
Navi is the cutest Pokemon character ever and I deeply adore her. First of all, unlike Max or Bonnie earlier, who were also confirmed to be way younger than rest of the cast; Navi has the pure whimsy which was missing for so long. We all know and try to pretend they didn't fuck up season 3, but they obviously did. After season 2, horizons really gave up on the fact that RVT are still supposed to be kids/teens. What made horizons special to me in first place was that the protagonist wasn't any kid with really big dreams that they achieve alone. Here, the crew cared for the kids and looked out for them the entire time. It's most easily seen in season 1. Friedad was the most supporting and his "death" really screwed the cast over, most visible with Liko and Orla. An unspoken fatality is Roy however. Roy had the role of outgoing social naïve kid till season 2 but they hard pivoted him to much more serious leader role from season 3 with him taking charge of the RVT. My boy lost all his whimsy and that the crew much more mature rounding overall. The adults didn't help much either cuz heck the kids have matured on their own and defeated a fucking demigod. Ult was introduced to fill Roy's whimsy gap and I do like him a lot has character but his presence simply never brought the charm there was in season 1 and 2 where the kids were still kids. Ult's gradual growth is great and isn't much spoken of really. He slowly went from being an annoying brat I couldn't stand to a nice pleasant presence and a person who understood to read the room and importance of friendships, while still being the right amount of silly. This is particularly well shown in season 4's first few episodes. Ult is a very introspective person and his growth wasn't supported the same way Liko's or Dot's was, but rather by simple nudges time to time, particularly by Lacey and Liko. I think it should have been either just Roy or atleast have more importance of Roy given how they travelled around for a year, but unfortunately we never got to see the full growth of Roy and how his dynamic with Ult evolved properly besides early season 3 episodes. The flashback Lumiose episodes didn't add much really. This left Roy as a nothingburger character whose personality barely came out entire season. After the exceed stuff is taken care of, everyone has got their growth and there isn't much room to explore besides tying up some loose ends. Certainly not enough for the children to fill alone, and I don't think horizons is much keen to explore the crew adults now, unless Friede comes back with some "oh didn't I mention that" and drops some batshit crazy lore. Speaking of, WHERE THE FUCK IS LUDLOW? IT'S BEEN IDK HOW MANY EPISODES WHERE THE HELL IS HE?
Okay I got sidelined, let's come to Navi. So we clearly see Navi is much younger than rest of the crew, even Ult, who already is pretty young compared to rest of the kids. Navi is a pure child of whimsy with an energy of a 6 year old brat and I love her. She makes for an amazing dynamic with Ult and it can finally make Ult shine and show what he learnt in past season. Her being a little brat also fits well with Ult's silly dynamic. Basically they couldn't get the adults to mentor kids so they introduced a toddler to be mentored by the kids, which is a smart idea actually. Not only does it bring the inner child free of the kids which has been through a lot of traumatic shit in past seasons and let them be free and whimsical again around Navi, while showing how come they've come far by teaching Navi. Who knows, maybe she even fixes Roy. Dot also looked comfortable around her and I really want her and Dot to have a personal connection that gives Dot the chance to shine. Dot isn't a really people person in terms of skills, but I despise how she has been sidelined after season 2. Giving her a dynamic with Navi can explore her more as a person and maybe let her get close with Ult too. Those two are currently the least friendly pair out of the four and I personally think Dot is just barely tolerating Ult's shit. Navi being a fresh character can bring out so much new from existing cast while not retconning their earlier adventure. I can see Liko act all maternal towards her (is that the right word??) and help her understand feelings, perhaps with nostalgia of her time with Hatenna. Liko is also much more friendly to kids in general so I can see her being Navi's #2 hangout buddy after Ult. Dot can act as mom, she has the vibe. Meanwhile murdock would look over crying seeing how much everyone has grown.
Yes, I wrote all this to justify her existence because look how adorable she is and we need her in the world.
