Pokeshipping moments in episode 2 of Pokémon aiming to be a Pokémon master
Pokeshippers how are we all feeling after the latest episode? I loved it! I didn’t expect much but I saw so much and am happy. I loved the banter and teasing in between ash and misty and the way their Pokémon really took care of one another/interacted. I noticed a few hints that I thought were huge and would like to share it with all of you
1. Clauncher and Corphish falling for each other-
Okay so it sounds random at first but let me explain what I noticed. Corphish is Ash’s Pokémon and Clauncher became Misty’s Pokémon. Throughout the episode we see how the two go from enemies to lovers. It sounds strange but I believe their Pokémon were meant to represent their trainers. Literally their whole relationship was the exact replica of ash and misty especially how they went from enemies to lovers and showed stubbornness while they developed their relationship. I believe this was the case even more due to the fact in the end of the episode misty was blushing while telling Ash that she would join him on his journey due to Clauncher and Corphish liking one another(don’t worry we know you like him and that’s why you are following him misty)
2. The red string of fate
This one I found major! In the recent episode Misty explains how she thinks her and clauncher were tied together by the red string of fate from their multiple meetings and ash questions her. So this hint ties into pokeshipping very interestingly. Earlier in the series Ash had to choose between two paths to go through. He choose one path over the other because he felt like it was the right way/had a good feeling about that specific path. That path led Ash to meet misty again and he was captured by the wrist with Misty’s string from her fishing rod. This scene proved that they were destined to meet like how Ash told her they were destined to meet before she had to go back to cerulean city and leave him on his journey. Now why is this important? Many of you may say ash was destined to meet all his companions but the difference between what Ash told her before and the current episode is that they mentioned the red string of fate and had ash get wrapped by Misty’s “red string of fate which has never happened with any other companion before in the series. What is the red string of fate? The red string of fate is a string that ties two people together regardless of place, time, or circumstances and these two people are DESTINED LOVERS. The string is able to be stretched or tangled but it never breaks. Doesn’t that remind you of Ash and Misty’s relationship exactly? They found each other in a tangled situation first meeting but overtime together they grew feelings for each other although they haven’t admitted it directly. Then when she left they got tangled and the string stretched the further apart but they were always linked to each other. Misty supported him from cerulean while Ash carried her lure even being possessive over it from other companions. But in the end both of them found each other again due to their fate and the red string that connects them.
3. Pickachupi-This shouldn’t be a shocker but they brought back Pikachu’s nickname for misty. The whole episode pikachu stuck by her side and even hugged her wanting her to come along with them. As I mentioned with clauncher and corphish pikachu also represents Ash. Ash didn’t say it aloud but pikachu was showing his true feelings. Also misty is the only female companion that ever has recieved a nickname from pikachu. Out of the entire series misty is the only companion in which pikachu holds her to a higher level of love and appreciation. Showing that the bond she has with ash and pikachu is on another level from the others. Also I would just like to add on that pikachu pulled a misty when he reunited with her lol. Psyduck wanted a hug from pikachu as he ran up to him but pikachu avoided him and jumped right to misty for a hug. Reminded me of that one pokeshipping moment with Danny lol.
4.Ash being himself- What I noticed was that Ash brings out his true nature with Misty. The smug/arrogance/teasing all came out in this episode. I love how ash doesn’t have to Put up an act with her. He knows he doesn’t have to impress her because she and him already accepted each other as they are. When misty saw cilans lure and asked him what happened with hers he teased her saying cilans was better for catching but avoided bringing up that he used her lure and almost lost it which was why he probably kept it secure and not used anymore. He got out of it this time but I’m sure that if the two meet dawn, dawn will expose him.
- That’s the hints I noticed in the episode and if I’m being honest I didn’t expect a lot especially some of the scenes the writers/animators did. All I have to say is I think the writers/animators showed where they stand with the ship. They knew what they were doing by mentioning the red string of fate and having Ash and misty meet again with her literally catching him with her string.
They also especially knew what they were doing by putting A giant heart with two hearts in between clauncher and corphish and putting ash and misty in the same frame with their dialogue/banter. Having the Pokémon represent them and adding them into that scene was icing on the cake. Even if they don’t officially announce pokeshipping I think the solidified it with this episode. The red string of fate mention was just showing that these two are destined lovers that will always find each other. They didn’t have to do all of this but they did and I think it was for a reason. Just look at the way he looks at her after everything and she joins him again!
It’s Pokeshipping Theories time!
Don’t you think Misty treasures her new hairpin too much?
Why “too much”?
1. Misty is so happy and talks about her hairpin all the way. - “But it’s what everyone does when buy something they like!”, you will say.
2. She wears it even after officer Jenny told them, that Banette was aiming for heart shaped things. - “But Misty said she forgot”? Though she spent half of this day choosing and talking about her hairpin! And no thoughts “oh, it is heart shaped too” at the moment after the officer told them about it? Do you believe in it? If yes, the what about next point?
3. She wears it right till the very moment they come to the home of Banette! - She knows already this Pokemon may attack her because of it! They cannot be sure they won’t meet Banette at the road! And still she prefers to risk! But she never was too reckless!
What do you think now? It is too much to do for the even beautiful thing you just bought in accessory shop!
What else we know?
4. Misty keeps silence and staring to nowhere when Brock shows the photo. She looks sad as if she understands already what will happen next. And her “Really?” sounds not like she’s surprised, but as she doesn’t want to believe.
5. She waits until Ash suggests to give her hairpin to Banette though she says she had the same idea. And Ash suggests it not immediately after seeing the photo, so she wouldn’t have time to act first. But she likes Pokémon and usually she is ready to help them! And look at the screenshot above: when they come to the house, she doesn’t look at the house, she looks at Ash!
Now, the main question: WHY THIS HAIRPIN IS SO SPECIAL?
THEORY №1 She wants to look pretty/girlish for Ash.
It isn’t the first time she want to look more romantic with all these hearts in her hair. But previously he laughed on her because of team R weird makeup. It wasn’t hard to go back to her usual style after such reaction! But what if he said something good now when she was choosing the hairpin, like it looks great on her or “in her style” or even that she is girlish with it? Something she wants he to think looking at her? But personally I’d prefer to imagine he said some compliment or reacted somehow without thinking, that it is even a bit embarrassing for him. And that’s why she asks again and again at the beginning of the episode how it looks on her: maybe, she just wants he pronounce it again! And that’s why she wants to be “so pretty” as long as possible and always waits for Ash’s reaction. And these “I forgot Banette haunting for heart shaped things” is just a lie to hide her real intentions as in case with reason to travel together.
THEORY №2 She wants to look like Sonia next to her Champion
The previous Champion —> new Champion Ash. The previous Champion’s girlfriend best friend —> new Champion’s girlfriend best friend with orange hair, one side ponytail and hearts in her hair. It maybe a way to show everyone or to feel who is she for him. Or a hint for Ash. (Do not forget what I wrote above: she waits for his reactions!) I don’t believe to much that Misty would choose this way, but really, Ash, with all these parallels and your Champion title, you don’t have a chance!)
THEORY №3 THIS HAIRPIN IS ASH’S GIFT!
Actually we hear that Misty has been choosing the hairpin for an hour, but there is no information that it is her, who bought it! And it changes everything!
Why she is so happy about it? Why does she treasure it too much that ready to risk ? Why Ash and Brock don’t ask her to remove it as soon as they hear about aim of the thief. Remember, Ash’s look at the second episode: he knows everything! And you know the answer too, Pokeshippers! Why didn’t she suggest to give it to Banette before Ash said it - because she cannot just give away his gift! But he can ask for it and that’s why he is so uncomfortable to do it. Just look at the episode by this angle! Personally, it’s my headcanon now!

Original Trio Grown Up! With Pokeshipping included!
It's adorable! Nice job💛
Thursday thoughts - I like Serena as a character, but not as Ash's love interest. I do see why some fans cling to amourshipping because they connect with Serena's feelings. Heck, I would probably get along with Serena really well. In terms of the better built relationship, however, Pokeshipping wins the award.
I want to clarify that in my anime headcanon, they are more like older teenagers than 10 year olds. (I teach 4th grade, and them being 10 just doesn't compute in my head!)
At the start of XY, Serena leaves on her journey solely because she has a huge crush on Ash and wants to find him. Fine, like kids/teens make big decisions based on feelings. Honestly, it is a bit cringy to me, but still realistic. Of course, throughout their travels she learns a lot about herself and Pokemon because of Ash. He has inspired a lot of young trainers! He is definitely kind to her and a great friend. However, just because Serena has a crush on Ash, it doesn't mean he returns those feelings.
Okay, well yes, you can argue that Misty followed Ash because of a crush, but that formed concurrently with their strong friendship and the fact that he really did owe her a bike. I would have been pissed too if someone fried my bike. Misty's crush developed as she watched this imperfect, young boy grow and find his true niche in the Pokemon world. She saw him. She saw him for who he was then and who he is now. They are truly equals.
In terms of compatibility, I just don't find Serena and Ash to be the best fit based on the 900+ episodes and counting that I have seen of Ash. While she is pretty, good at baking, gentle, and sweet, it doesn't mean that it is what Ash needs or wants. Ash is the type of character to charge in head first. He can be stubborn and dense. He is self sacrificing and heroic. He doesn't really care about frills which I would argue is a big deal for Serena who is fashionable and detailed oriented. And while Ash is shown to be more mature in XY, this maturity is a bit out of character since he seems to backtrack in Sun and Moon. (Don't get me wrong, I like mature Ash. I just don't think it is a consistent quality for him in the show. I think he is finding a balance in MPM.)
On the other hand, Misty matches his stubbornness head to head and is self sacrificing to a lesser degree. She also isn't afraid to chase after Ash into danger. She is bold and strong. She knows what she wants. She has a goal that is the closest to Ash's compared to any of his close friends except Iris. I get it that some people find Misty to be too abrasive and abusive. Yes, at first, Misty was too aggressive, but she has some of the best character development of anyone in Pokemon. I remember poking at the boy I liked when I was a kid! And, besides, Ash definitely was no saint to her in return!
To me, Serena kissing Ash at the end of XY was a wrap to her story. She started her journey because of Ash, and kissing him was part of the conclusion. She was no longer traveling because of her crush. She had found her love of Pokemon and performing. I felt like it was Serena sort of growing up and growing out of a childish crush. I'm not saying all of her feelings for Ash disappeared, but her journey became bigger and more important than them. Without this character development, she wouldn't have left Ash. Also, amourshipping isn't canon just because Serena kissed Ash. It is still one-sided considering Ash did not really respond with more than a small smile.
When Misty left, it did not feel like an ending. She didn't want to leave, but obligations arose. She wanted to travel forever by Ash's side, and she would have too. And maybe now she will in MPM. She was also the only departure that Ash ever cried over. It is valid that Brock left then too; however, Ash didn't cry when Brock stayed behind with Professor Ivy.
I really do understand why people like amourshipping, but Pokeshipping was designed and implemented more realistically which is why I have clung so hard to it. It truly was my first ship.
I know there seems to be a lot of other Ash ships around, but over the course of 26 years I believe that the amount of Pokeshippers (quiet and outspoken) would blow any other Ash ship out of the water.
Team Rocket In Unova - A Retrospective
@themattress stated in one of his Tumblr posts that Team Rocket’s Unova region-based arc in the “Best Wishes” series of the Pokemon anime has been the best evil team plot that the anime section of the franchise has ever done, unless you’re counting the Mewtwo saga of the original series as Team Rocket’s Kanto arc. And he was right! Three years later and TR’s arc in Unova is still one of the most thrilling, enjoyable, well written, well constructed, intricately designed and awesomely executed things the anime has brought us, moreso than the arcs for Team Galactic, Team Plasma, and even Team Flare. The expert handling of the Team Rocket characters (both the main TRio and the rest of the organization) and the pacing of the ongoing story arc certainly helps that, as does the role and tone direction for TR and the constant shift in genres that each phase brought to the table (super spy action for the Meteonite mission, crime thriller for the Nimbasa Subway misison, mythological epic for the Milos Island mission, science fiction for the Time Gate mission, Lovecraftian Gothic horror for the Meloetta mission, epic fantasy adventure that was the N arc, and classic TR antics for their more standalone or filler-ish escapades).
So this post here is a retrospective of the story arc covering Team Rocket’s ongoing quest to take over the Unova region, and from there finally take over the world and finally capture their coveted Pikachu. It gives the details on all of the arc’s events and summarizes the entire story in all of it’s mission phases. Please note that some of what I write here is off screen details meant to fill in blanks left by the actual show, and some of it, like at the very end, is my own headcanon.
