Pokemon Protagonists’ Parents: F you, my child is completely fine.
Meanwhile their kid is fighting unknown horrors, taking down evil organizations, and capturing literal gods in small little spheres and then beating the champions of said region. All while being like… 10.
No but seriously imagine the trauma these kids went through afterwards;
Dawn literally fighting a megalomaniac, the Pokemon equivalent of god and satan, and (since I believe in the Dawn is Akari AU), getting sent back in time, she’s gotta at least be somewhat messed up. Like maybe she can’t tell what’s real or what isn’t anymore thanks to the Distortion world, or maybe she’s just apathetic and cold as the top of Spear Pillar because of Cyrus and Arceus using her like a tool. (Also fighting Volo who had Giratina and that probably caused some flashbacks)
Hilbert fought an organization that was crazed and dangerous. Went up against N who sort of betrayed them. Hilbert probably hates liars now and also is fully aware of the suffering of Pokemon under their trainers. He probably wonders if N was right about everything and if he was in the wrong. He also fought Ghetsis (that boss battle was hard) and survived. Not to mention Plasma took down the gym leaders of Unova (manga-verse) and imagine a kid fighting the leader of the organization with nothing but stupid bravery and his Pokemon team.
Elio going through Ultra Space had to have messed him up too in some way. Especially with Lusamine fusing with a Nihilego and attacking her own children. Plus he fought Ultra Necrozma. And throughout the game he just has this blank smile (graphics I know) but I think it’s to hide the pain and fear he went through when running into the Ultra Wormholes and trying to stop everything despite being a kid and under-leveled.
Victor took down Eternatus when Leon couldn’t. And while his trauma isn’t as prominent as others he probably still has nightmares about it. As well as the betrayal of Chairman Rose. He probably wonders what would’ve happened if he couldn’t take Eternatus down and if Rose would’ve won. And he still went through the gym circuits afterwards.
Then you have May who witnessed the rise of Groudon and Kyogre and probably had to watch the stupidity of Archie and Maxie and the consequences that followed. And her having to stop both because they’re rampaging and then come back out as if nothing happened. (Also the manga traumatized me)
Ethan with Giovanni and Team Rocket. That alone is traumatizing as it’s a kid going up against someone who’s essentially a mob boss. Where even were the authorities?
Calem taking down Lysandre and Team Flare. He probably has a few burns from that and again there’s a huge betrayal aspect. Not to mention a kid stopping a literal geo-weapon isn’t good for anyone’s mental state. Not to mention how brutal Lysandre’s death was in the manga. (And out of all the protagonists I feel Calem is the one who’s least remembered)
Juliana and Florian probably don’t know what to even think of the future or past at this point. Fear of what may come of it and the fact they witnessed Turo or Sada’s android’s death. How they just wanted to have fancy crystallized pokemon and then got roped in to some whole situation.
But these actual kids stopped these events, fought every organization, and still came out smiling but possibly broken. Pokemon could be a lot darker if the games focused on the aftermath of all the events. Imagine the trauma and pain the protagonists had to recover from, all at young ages. And that’s probably what made them so driven to be champions (or not).
