My favorite part about ONE is that despite his lack of ability to draw characters and backgrounds (a lack of ability which is rapidly going away. Look at early OPM vs. current Mob Psycho) he’s really good at perspective and the rules of like, motion.

So much so that before Mob Psycho (and possibly the Manga of OPM) people were under the impression he was intentionally drawing at that level to satirize the low-budget and sketchy art of popular shonen.

Someone remind me to do a full post on recurring themes in Nanou/CIVILIAN’s songs. Because he mentions “sin” a lot and atoning for it, and life being either punishment or a blessing (like the fact that living and breathing is painful and so much effort, or it’s actually just a miracle). In earlier songs, he also writes about wishing that everyone else in the world would just disappear, but ultimately realizes how isolating that would be to be left as the only one to suffer. And another theme is anti-war—wishing that there weren’t things like nuclear warheads, and conflict amongst humans just because people are “different” from you.
