ok. i think it's insane that we're all just chill with anthony having tried insistently to send his sister away to marry fucking berbrooke in s1 but we can't forgive pen for writing a few lines of gossip?

like. i'm sorry if i'm not getting something here but why was anthony so adamant about it? when asked about it he said something like 'he's decent, i looked into him' but do you not see him? do you not see the way he makes daphne uncomfortable? he would have really rather married her off to that guy than let her find anyone decent or her age at all? was it ever explained why? he literally was like 'berbrooke, bro, i promise you you've got first dibs idk what all these men are doing here' after callers arrived for daphne that one morning as if she's some thing to be handed off. and then when berbrooke got beat the fuck up and was like 'im gonna tell the ton daphne's ruined if she doesn't marry me' then he became the villain and anthony started working against him and feeling guilty about trying to arrange the marriage? then??

well well well. if it isn't yet another reason for me to rewatch my fav polin scenes :)

in all honesty tho- my first and second fav polin moments are very closely related:

for me is the little incredulous 'we really did that huh' laugh they share after the carriage action which is just so sweet and so them and kinda felt like the two overlooked kids finally saw each other and created a little world of their own

would be the little laugh they share after their first time- vulnerable, sweet, still a little breathless

i just think its so cute that they're friends and they feel so human in these scenes, that they kinda take a step back from what's happening just to sort of soak in the moment of each other's closeness and new ways they discover each other..

I agree with Polin being like a cameo in S4 - they weren't well utilised as returning leads for Ben's story imo, even though LW exposes Araminta in the book and Colin has the fencing scene with Ben. It was strange how much promo they received vs actual screentime - Colin's "time alone with Penelope" promo line seemed especially odd as they didn't have any actual scenes alone together that lasted more than a few seconds? I would have liked some better insight, even one or two short scenes, into how their lives are now as new parents managing an estate, and they missed out on comedy gold with Colin & Portia not having their own subplot together in my opinion, but I've made my peace with it at this point. They are happy and writing romance novels together with their little ginger babies, hopefully also travelling, Pen is free from LW and that's what matters!

my honest honest belief is that they did have more scenes at the time of shooting, they were just cut, like, significantly.

one of the major proofs for me is their dance scene which, thanks to the bts clip jack murphy shared, we know existed. i've seen a few pen and eloise pics floating around tumblr as well as promo clips that were never seen in scenes which make me think they had more plot points at some point. and just from a logical/strategic pov, i dont know if luke or nic would sign on to be there for such a huge chunk of the filming only to be in background scenes in dances or have the occasional interaction, let alone luke being part of the press tour. my hope is that there was more, we just simply didn't see it for one reason or another. i get it, especially with how much hate s3 seemed to get for not having enough of the main couple, s4 went slow and steady with ben and sophie, fully giving their relationship time to evolve. as a film MA, it's not too unreasonable they shot many more scenes and re-pieced everything together in editing after they had a better view of s4 as a whole

but yes, much like you, in my head polin are travelling the world together with their ginger babies, that's actually the reason why i started my fic lmao

ok so.

i have never read the bridgerton books and do not know their plots. here is how i think eloise's season is gonna go:

i think it's marriage of convenience time? hear me out. that's a trope they haven't touched on the show yet, and i feel like she would do it to make her family happy (im not saying its good or bad im just saying) and for them to feel like they don't have to worry about her. it would be a suitable marriage, one kinda like lord debling was offering penelope. one where he has his interests and she has hers, maybe even has kids from a previous marriage so eloise doesn't have to worry about that. perhaps it's a quiet kind of love? we've yet to truly see one like that on the show-- they all end up loud and passionate and fiery. john and fran's story was like that at the start but it turned out it was more so two people who truly understood each other in a world hard for both to navigate, but i bet (hope) there will be a fiery hot love between fran and michaela.

so eloise and this imaginary marriage of convenience man kinda keep apart, only attend functions they must and stuff, but find more and more out about each other-- perhaps they both like books? maybe even the same authors? and maybe this man is a feminist, maybe he supports worthwhile causes or attended university and retells what he learned to eloise so she may experience it. i'm talking nerdy, not-certain-how-to-get-there kinda love, i'm talking love through kind gestures and unspoken care. something eloise will find curious and refreshing after the chaos of bridgerton house. and maybe that's how they will find love <3

the absolute peak in life for me would be to end up on someone's fic rec list. like i think i would reach true nirvana

my absolute wish list hea for polin at the end of s3 would have been for her to quit lw because she doesn't need or want to stay in mayfair anymore and she and colin go traveling.

like- think about it. they're both incredibly adventurous people. colin is a traveler. half of lws appeal for penelope was the thrill it gave her and how it occupied her life. they're young and in love and filthy rich. why wouldn't they go off to all the places he wrote to her about so she could see them with her own two eyes, and then to a whole new tour neither of them have ever been on to experience it together?

the show kind of baffles me with the way they slotted the couples. kanthony being the traveling endless honeymoon couple just doesn't make that much sense. they would enjoy themselves absolutely, but they're the heads of household. vs. polin being the pairing that stays in mayfair and raises their baby in london and featherington house becoming the new hub immediately after marriage feels out of place when they're the youngest couple and consist of two people who both love stability, sure, but also crave freedom and excitement.

my version of polin has no heir race. no baby at 19 years old. no being shackled to mayfair. no queen breathing down their neck. no mother in law who refuses to let them grow up and run their household on their own. just two people who have struggled for so long to feel accepted finding their person and then going off in the world knowing anywhere they are, they're loved.

in a modern world, pen and colin are those two childhood best friends who get together in their early 20s, get a degree (or three) each, and then decide to go all over the world together. they'd be paragliding and bungee jumping and tripping balls under the stars and backpacking through South America and renting a van in California so they can long distance road trip through the USA. they'd join a random boating crew to see Antarctica and travel to Sweden to see the Northern Lights and parachute out of a plane. they'd take dance lessons at almost every major city they land in and go to high end hotels and slum it in a tent. they'd join the mile high club and the high seas club (offshore drilling club?) and the in general thank god for birth control club and they'd spend a solid decade learning about the world and each other and having dumb successful blogs about it and a couple's account on the side and a bank account that never emptied.

and with how the show went, in which colin and penelope don't have any real narrative of note since their season has passed, i just wish with all my heart they could have given us that. that they could have sex without getting a kid right away, and that they could have a honeymoon, and that they could enjoy their time being married before they became parents. that they could explore together and figure out what they like and appreciate the world together. that they could have freedom portia and london and all the eyes and audience. that they could learn who they are together away from everything that had formed them at one point in time.

polin was a golden opportunity to show us a pairing who could have had a different outcome to marriage other than immediate babies ever after but it feels like the show just painted all of the pairings with the same broad brush and called it a day and it makes my heart hurt

at least i can rest easy knowing in a modern world, these two praise the hell out of an iud and a frequent flyer card

unironically, this was exactly in my s4 predictions- i thought oh, since they didn't let polin travel and do the honeymoon thing in s3 cause of the whole baby featherington heir plot point, they must by the end of s4 right? right??

i wholeheartedly agree with op, my hc is that colin really desperately wants to show penelope all the places he's travelled to during his world tours so she could see them for herself and not through his letters-- like i'm picturing him so happy and excited to finally share his world with someone- "look pen, it's the broken column i described when i wrote about the colosseum!!" "this is where i bought that perfume brought back! pen!!" "look this is where i fed ducks!! aren't they so cute pen??"

Re : Nicola in S5: I'm paraphrasing, but she said recently in an interview that she'll always be happy to come back and pop into the background if Bridgerton ever wants her, and how it's nice that she had her time as lead and now it's others turn. I got the sense that she is moving on to new projects and if she is in S5 & S6, it's most likely a cameo similar to Simone in S4. By the same token people are taking this to mean Luke won't be in it either, given he didn't really have his own scenes or separate side plot without Pen in S4. I wasn't expecting much from them in S5 but I admit I will be disappointed if we don't see Polin featured in Eloise's season, given their important connection with Phillip/Marina and how much El was in S3. I will be happy to see them both in new projects regardless!

i'll always be happy to support any new projects nicola or luke take on, quite selfishly i would love for nic to do something with fashion like an avant-garde fashion magazine photoshoot or runway or be a brand ambassador for like an epic outrageous brand (because i love fashion and she wears anything so. fucking. beautifully.) and for luke i hope he gets back into musicals and broadway- he's got so much talent to give and vocals that speak for themselves so 😌
