for this, we must revisit each one's first meeting. let's dive in!!

simon and daphne

nope. although maybe we are encouraged to believe so by the whole world-slowing-down-heartbeat-sound-effect thing, in this moment it's clear daphne is not paying attention to literally anything else besides getting the fuck away from berbrooke. her eyes are wild, she's panicking, she would have spoken to anyone to get away from the situation. even after the initial 'sorry' 'pardon me' they kinda start to walk away from each other, but she looks back to find the berbrooke walking towards her so begins a conversation ('tell me your name'). simon on the other hand is dismissive, convinced she's just another lady trying to get his attention. conclusion: not love at first sight, but a love that grew <3

2. kate and anthony

see this one's complicated. i'd like to say yes for anthony, kate i think is just enjoying her victory and showing off her riding skills, but anthony seeks her out again so they ride together a little and start a conversation. but then what exactly is the definition of love bc he does still court and completely seriously plans on marrying her sister for the whole season. so maybe he doesn't realise it's love? maybe he's just fascinated by her and can't understand why? not sure, feel free to discuss in the comments..

3. polin

yea no probably not lmao they were babies, but i think since their meeting colin's always had a soft spot for her because he knew he could trust her, she teased him ('mercilessly, in fact'), she was truly herself. her humorous, witty, insightful self, and that's our first peek at whistledown in the making, folks ;) but also, how beautiful that the first peek of each other they got is such an honest one? its funny in the show penelope is often seen as shy, quiet, reserved, but in truth it's just she's not allowed to be herself, she hides that part away for the only people she knows won't judge her (colin at the corners of balls, eloise). its adorable to think that baby penelope wasn't constrained by all that yet, that she was just a kid who teased and laughed and chatted :)

4. benedict and sophie

uhh.. yeah idk. he's enchanted by her for sure, by her enthusiasm for something that's his day-to-day, if i were to pick a look of 'true love', benedict's first glance of sophie comes the closes. perhaps this is love at first sight for him, but also we come to learn the lady in silver isn't.. real? that there's a person behind that mask, a person with a life, with a story, and i'm of the opinion you can't really fall in love with a person until you know them. its been a joke i've seen that ben is in a love triangle with the same lady, and in his confession he does say 'the reality of you is more tantilising than any fantasy' in similar words, so is he in love with the lady in silver if he falls more in love with sophie? dude yea i feel so unqualified to answer this lmao..

in conclusion, i guess i don't think anyone fell fell in love with anyone at first sight, but perhaps their first meetings inspired later feelings (or feelings they didn't yet understand) :)

see, now i am no regency-wear specialist and let's take into consideration the bton costume department takes some liberties with the dresses, but here is how i would hope the loveliest of colours, yellow, could make a comeback if for only just a moment on penelope (and met with colin's amused and crinkle-eyed gaze, i am sure):

Penelope is rich rich. girl got money. i kept doing a double take as i watched s4 because i'm almost certain that little sache(??) she carries around with her and to meet the queen is probably gold-clad? just a hunch? so. i would love to see her in expensive lyon silks.

ones that shine like the sun (almost gold)

or glow like pearls

honestly, the pastel version of yellow i think would look so good on her with her red hair!!! like!!! i cannot be the only one who sees the vision!!!

2. if we're talking more textures, any kind of yellow embroidery!!! (probably gold-threaded, colin would settle for no less tbh)

i personally would love little flowers in bloom (even a wallflower can bloom) or even a bee?

3. if she were to wear the colour her mother had confined her to for years again, she would do it in her own way, she would mould it to her, not the other way around. and so the fit of her dress would hide nothing - it would show her off

4. and for decorations and details? PEARLS. like pls. their home is a shrine to the sea, they dressed like pirates for the masquerade. she is aphrodite incarnate and you cannot (will not, do not want to) convince me otherwise 😌

What would you rate the first four Bridgerton Couples first kisses in order from what ones you liked the most to the least how would you rate them?! 💙

oh this is gonna be fun, but you should know i am a yapper ;) i will rank them from my absolute favs to the less so as we descend (keep in mind this is my very subjective opinion)

polin - i mean come on, 100% my fav, no notes, literally SQUEALED the first time i saw it. there is so much in that kiss i adore, but probably most prominently the way it shifts them, kinda like those dutch angles the show liked to use in s3, just like that something's tilted, something's clicking in colin's very being saying 'wait a minute, it's her, her her..' and she's just indulged in something that will have to sustain her for the rest of her life, a little piece of the sun as she moves on with her future, as she lets whatever happens next grow around her heart where this moment glows.

kanthony - i'm sure i am not surprising anyone lmao, but it was a beautiful, feeling kiss that carried so much weight after everything they'd been through. the physicality of it too - the distance they cross towards each other, the force of it is so fierce. for me, personally, this season's will-they-won't-they stretched for a little too long, in moments i felt really bad for edwina because she went out there, being herself and putting forward her gorgeous bubbly personality, being vulnerable, just to feel kind of like an oblivious kid. but the kiss in isolation tho - absolutely beautiful <3

saphne - now this may come as a surprise, also ik there's mixed opinions about this season, i know it definitely left me feeling a little iffy towards the end BUT but. i'm only a few weeks into bridgerton lore after bingeing it all so this season's still fresh in my mind, it's what got me hooked on the world and it's characters. i think this kiss is beautiful because it's complex, because it's an answer - daphne's upset and confused about simon's behaviour and his hot-and-cold and she keeps asking him things and he's so overcome by passion he can't get it out, so he answers her by kissing her. and then his immediate apology, the genuine remorse, almost fear on his face of what he's done and, more so, what he's capable of doing when his passion goes unchecked. anyway, very interesting, very cinematic <3

benophie - okay im sorrY IM SORRY. I KNOW. this is a personal thing i think, because i very much invest into relationships only after getting to know people, i love characters who are at least a little familar with each other, who know their equilibrium of banter (polin) or pulls and punches (kanthony), who have some kind of established playing field. so to me, even though i have nothing against the characters, oppositely i think they're very endearing in their own ways, it was still hard to feel flutters at their kiss. and i felt guilty about it too - like girl a whole ass new season and its finally benedict's time to shine and no response from my heartstrings?? maybe it was too fairytale for me, maybe it was something else, i'm really not sure, but i'm hoping so hard i can love them deeper when part 2 drops.

well well well. if it isn't yet another reason for me to rewatch my fav polin scenes :)

in all honesty tho- my first and second fav polin moments are very closely related:

for me is the little incredulous 'we really did that huh' laugh they share after the carriage action which is just so sweet and so them and kinda felt like the two overlooked kids finally saw each other and created a little world of their own

would be the little laugh they share after their first time- vulnerable, sweet, still a little breathless

i just think its so cute that they're friends and they feel so human in these scenes, that they kinda take a step back from what's happening just to sort of soak in the moment of each other's closeness and new ways they discover each other..

I agree with Polin being like a cameo in S4 - they weren't well utilised as returning leads for Ben's story imo, even though LW exposes Araminta in the book and Colin has the fencing scene with Ben. It was strange how much promo they received vs actual screentime - Colin's "time alone with Penelope" promo line seemed especially odd as they didn't have any actual scenes alone together that lasted more than a few seconds? I would have liked some better insight, even one or two short scenes, into how their lives are now as new parents managing an estate, and they missed out on comedy gold with Colin & Portia not having their own subplot together in my opinion, but I've made my peace with it at this point. They are happy and writing romance novels together with their little ginger babies, hopefully also travelling, Pen is free from LW and that's what matters!

my honest honest belief is that they did have more scenes at the time of shooting, they were just cut, like, significantly.

one of the major proofs for me is their dance scene which, thanks to the bts clip jack murphy shared, we know existed. i've seen a few pen and eloise pics floating around tumblr as well as promo clips that were never seen in scenes which make me think they had more plot points at some point. and just from a logical/strategic pov, i dont know if luke or nic would sign on to be there for such a huge chunk of the filming only to be in background scenes in dances or have the occasional interaction, let alone luke being part of the press tour. my hope is that there was more, we just simply didn't see it for one reason or another. i get it, especially with how much hate s3 seemed to get for not having enough of the main couple, s4 went slow and steady with ben and sophie, fully giving their relationship time to evolve. as a film MA, it's not too unreasonable they shot many more scenes and re-pieced everything together in editing after they had a better view of s4 as a whole

but yes, much like you, in my head polin are travelling the world together with their ginger babies, that's actually the reason why i started my fic lmao

in all seriousness - i think it’s got so many sentimental memories attached to it for her, it’ll always symbolise the time he came back from seeing the world and stayed. plus im sure no one missed the way she ran her hand over it in his study when hiding from eloise, i think its such an essential colin thingTM in her mind, that she loves it deeply, just like she does him.
