Today was no exception. You’d asked him to pick up a few simple things from Sam’s shop after class, flour, sugar, chocolate chips, eggs. Nothing complicated. You wanted to bake muffins once you got back to ramshackle.
Floyd had grinned that sharp, lazy smile and said. “Sure thing, Shrimpy~ I’ll take care of it.”
And of course, when you walked into ramshackle that afternoon, there he was, sprawled across your couch like he owned the place, long legs dangling over the armrest, scrolling on his phone.
“Hi Shrimpy~” he greeted, flashing you a big, sharp smile.
You smiled back at him. “Hey. Did you get the stuff I asked for?”
Floyd tilted his head, pretending to think. “Hmm… oh yeah. I forgot.”
Your smile dropped instantly. “You forgot?”
“Yeah…” he said casually, sitting up and stretching like a cat. “I’ll just grab it tomorrow. No big deal.”
You felt the annoyance flare up immediately. You crossed your arms, staring at him. “Floyd, I wanted to bake today. I planned everything around it.”
He shrugged, still smiling. “You can bake anytime. It’s just muffins.”
That was it. You marched over to the couch, now properly upset. “You’re acting like a huge dick right now, you know that?”
Floyd stands up fully, mismatched eyes sparkling with mischief. “You’re overreacting. The world not gonna end over some eggs and flour.”
That pushed you over the edge. Your voice rose. “I’m overreacting?! You’re so irresponsible and childish sometimes! If I annoy you that much, maybe you should just…”
He didn’t let you finish.
Floyd surged forward, one hand cupping the back of your neck as he pulled you into a deep, sudden kiss. Your eyes flew wide open. You planted both hands on his chest and tried to push him away.
“What are you… mmph!”
Another kiss. Harder this time. His arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him until your knees bumped the couch. The fight drained out of you faster than you wanted to admit. Your hands stopped pushing and instead gripped fistfuls of his shirt as you kissed him back.
When he finally pulled away, just enough to look at your flushed face, he grinned wide, teeth sharp and delighted. “You feel better now, Shrimpy?”
“You’re insufferable….” you muttered, still breathing hard.
Floyd giggled, that low, playful sound that always made your stomach flip. Then he snapped his fingers like he’d just remembered something. “Oh wait~ I’m so stupid. I did buy all the stuff. It’s in the back of the kitchen cabinet. Oopsie~”
Your eyes went wide. Then narrowed again in fresh annoyance. “You did this on purpose?!”
He let go of you and flopped back onto the couch with dramatic innocence, arms spread out. “Me? Neveeeer… or maybe~ If you’re still mad, I can kiss you again. I don’t mind.”
You stared at him for a long second, then you rolled your eyes and turned toward the kitchen.
“I hate you!” you called over your shoulder.
Floyd laughter followed you. “No you don’t~”
You really, really wanted to argue with that. But as you pulled the hidden bag out of the cabinet and saw he’d gotten everything you asked for (plus a few extra things he knew you like), you couldn’t stop the small smile tugging at your lips.
You hated how much you loved him.

"Lizzy, go slower." (Y/n) said as she got dragged by her wrists by her best friend.
"Come on! Ciel is waiting for us!" Elizabeth, her best friend, didn't even stop for a breather and continued to drag her up the stairs towards the Phantomhive Manor. Their maid and butler followed after them, (Y/n) butler slowly followed while Paula quickly ran after them as they neared the front door of the manor.
Before one could even knock on the door they swung opened and the Phantomhive's butler came into view. Sebastian Michaelis greeted them with his usual smile and bowed. "Good morning, Ladies. Please do come in."
Without hesitation Lizzy skipped passed Sebastian, still dragging (Y/n) behind her. She quickly gave a greeting to Sebastian as she gets dragged through the door and tried to not stumble over her own feet. Sebastian chuckles as he waits for Paula and (B/n) to enter the manor before closing the door behind them.
"Ciel!!"
"Hello, Elizabeth. (Y/n)."
"Hello, Ciel." (Y/n) greeted Ciel calmly, at least as calm as she could after getting dragged towards and inside the Phantomhive manor. Meanwhile, Elizabeth placed her hands on her hips of her pink dress, while also finally letting go of her friends wrist, and pouted as she looked at her finacee.
"I told you to call me Lizzy!" Already used to her antics Ciel sighed tiredly, while (Y/n) had to surpress a laugh at the scene. Everytime (Y/n) would see this scene when she visited the Phantomhive manor with Lizzy. The difference between a hyper fiancee and a calm and serious counter part is always an interesting combination for every viewer. Even though, (Y/n) could understand those that aw her best friend as annoying. It wasn't every day that someone as bubbly and happy like Elizabeth Midford would grace your doorstep with her sunshine and drag you around the town without explanation. To Ciel and (Y/n) fortune, they were already very used to her and didn't mind it much apart from a few moments.
(Y/n) still couldn't believe what had happened the first time Elizabeth was throwing a party at the manor. She had arrived later than her friend had wanted but her family had an event planned before hand and she couldn't leave until a little later. She didn't think she would ever see Elizabeth feel so angry that she would destroy her fiancee's family ring and moments later see it fly out the window by the same someone who had treasured it because it was the last real thing he had from his family.
She could still see it vividly how she had to calm Elizabeth down and later on, on their way home, how such and action was inappropriate even if she wanted to simply help. She loved her friend, truly. But even as her best friend she loved and hated her some times. She knew that Elizabeth means well but sometimes her actions make things worse than they were in the beginning. She wished her best friend would act like she truly was, it's not like Ciel wouldn't like her true her but she feared it so much to not be like other noble girls that she threw her whole personality away just to fit into an image that didn't suit her. Though saying it didn't suit her would be a lie. It did suit her well but after growing up with her and knowing what she is capable of, (Y/n) had a hard time combining both images together sometimes.
Watching them going back and forth, Ciel tried, like many times to deny her and resist her tugging on him. She had a tendency to drag people around when she was exited, mostly she dragged them or her brother around. (Y/n), like always when she was here with Lizzy, tried to calm down any arguments and listened to their conversation but stayed quiet at the side. Her heart ached a little every time when she watched them close. She never knew when it started. The warmth. The heart rate that went up. Her daydreaming. Her crush.
Although, no matter what, she knew it could never come true or continue to manifest inside her. She knew it would never happen either. She knew she couldn't do it with a good conscious. Elizabeth Lizzy Midford is her best friend. She could never tell her best friend that she had harboured a crush on her fiancee for who knows how long. (Y/n) can't even recall when it started.
When they were younger? At one of the tea parties she got dragged to? Events she had to participate with her parents and saw Ciel standing on the other side of the ballroom?
She didn't know. She needn't know. All she needed to know was that these feelings she had needed to be buried deep. The best would be to make them disappear. Anything for them to not surface to the outside. Anything. Even if it hurt her to do so. But it would hurt her even more to see her friends dream be destroyed by her own best friend who she trusts with all her heart.
Arriving in the garden, it was decorated, not as extravagant like Lizzy would have done it but it was a beautiful sight. The flowers in the garden were in full bloom and the table was already filled with different pastries. Ciel had invited them to test a few new products they were thinking of selling. And since Lizzy loved to eat delicious desserts and tea parties and (Y/n) had good taste for what the general public loved, Ciel decided to invite them. Not only to test out the new desserts but also to spent some time with his cousin and friend.
Sitting down, Sebastian presented all the different pastries while (b/n) was filling their cups with tea. It was a very nice day out and they listened to Lizzy as she was gushing about the taste of sweets and the newest interest she had developed. Ciel and (Y/n) kept quiet for most of the time, only sometimes adding their own comments.
After a while, (Y/n) started to feel tired of only sitting and listening the both engaged couple and excused herself for a bit. She waved (b/n) away, telling him that she would be back shortly after freshing up and went to the bathroom.
Standing in front of the mirror, (Y/n) scolded herself, she promised herself that she wouldn't feel jealous or envious about Lizzy's relationship with Ciel. She told herself that she would be completly fine with just standing by their side. Just a friend that spent time with them, nothing more. But still, she couldn't help but feel her heart ache with sorrow. What was she suppose to do with her feelings. She never thought it would be so hard to crush her love for the only person she ever loved before, someone she knew so long and always felt like that he was the most lovable person there is. But in the end, she can't do nothing about it.
(Y/n) splached some water into her face and dried it off before stepping out of the bathroom, trying to gather her last composure.
"What's wrong?"
Slightly flinching, she looked up to see where the sudden voice came from and saw the Lord of the house leaning against the wall opposite to the bathroom, with his arms crossed as he stares at her, waiting for an answer.
"C-Ciel… What are you doing here?" (Y/n) stood up straighter as she stared back at her secret crush, hoping that her face wouldn't betray her as she felt warmth flood in.
"Waiting for you. You don't seem so well today. Is something wrong?" She was shocked when she heard the question, not because of the words he said but about the way his voice softened a little, like… like he cared about her more than he should or dared to admit.
"Nothing is wrong, Ciel. Don't worry about it."
"Really? Because I could have sworn that you looked dejected."
(Y/n) avoided his gaze, hands interlocked with each others as she squeezed her fingers more. She was nervous. She didn't know why. Was it because Ciel found out since she wasn't careful enough? Internally she was scolding herself again. She couldn't believe that he noticed. That wasn't something she wanted to happen.
"You know if it's about Lizzy you don't have to worry." Ciel suddenly said.
"What do you mean?" (Y/n) tried to stay composed as she heard that, not only was she shocked that he would say something like that but she was also very confused on what he meant by that.
"Lizzy will be getting another fiancee soon, so you don't need to look so dejected anymore." (Y/n) didn't know how to answer that and simply stood frozen as Ciel walked closer to her, taking one of her hands he lifted it up towards his lips and placed a soft kiss on the back of her hand. "I had asked my aunt for an annulement, of course not without reason."
"Why would you do something like that…." she mumbled, cheeks flushing as she felt his breath ghost over her hand.
"I have found someone more in my interest that I want to marry, that's why." He stepped even closer and pulled her closer to him. "If you haven't caught on yet, you are the one I want to marry instead of Elizabeth Midford, (Y/n) (L/n). I thought the message already came across at the balls I normally don't attend or the gifts that I had send over to your estate."
Shocked at the new information, (Y/n) thought back to the balls and different invitation she and her family had received, and now that she thinks back to it, Ciel wasn't the type of person who would attend unimportant events unless they were really necesarry.
"But… what about Lizzy?"
"Don't worry about it. She already chewed my ear off about it. Cried the first half and lectured me in the second half about how I should treat you." Ciel closed his eyes and sighed.
(Y/n) smiled slightly and finally relaxed, she still couldn't believe what was happening but for now she decided to feel happy and face anything else later. She placed her head against his shoulder and hugged him back as they stood in the hallway, enjoying the silence before they returned to the garden and continued to spent time with everyone else and sampled new sweets.
