Fun facts about immigration in the US you might want to share with friends and relatives for no particular reason
The United States actually had open borders until 1924. There was no cap on immigration, and people were only denied access based on race and disability. (x)
The Immigration Act of 1924 had an overall negative impact on the economy (x) (x) and foreign relations with Asia, but Hitler praised it (x), because it was just blatant eugenics (x).
ICE didn't exist until 2003 (x)
Being undocumented is not actually classified as a crime (x). If it was, cases would be handled by the judicial branch, and defendants would receive the benefits of due process. But because it isn't, it is handled by the executive branch, and defendants do not get due process, in clear violation of their rights. That means no lawyers, no jury, and no real judge.
Immigration "judges," who are not required to have nearly as much experience or education in law as real judges (x), face no consequences for wrongful deportation, they are only really evaluated based on how many people they process.
While it's difficult to pin down an exact number, there have been an estimated 4,000 wrongful detention/deportations by 2010 alone (x - this one suggests a possible 20,000) (x - this one confirms over a thousand), with several reported on in mainstream media (Mark Lyttle, Pedro Guzman, Roberto Dominquez, Andres Gonzalez, Esteban Tiznado-Reyna).
In April 2025, there were several more confirmed wrongful deportations, including a 2-year-old citizen deported to Honduras (x) (x), a 10-year-old with brain cancer on her way to a medical appointment (x), and a 7-year-old and her 4-year-old brother with stage 4 cancer (x).
There were more deaths in ICE concentration camps in 2025 than almost any year prior, tying for first place with 2003 (x). If nothing is done about it, that number will increase in 2026.
ICE doesn't need better training, the murder and terror is the point. ICE needs to be abolished and every single agent needs to be tried at a minimum
Saying ICE needs better training is at best saying you want them to just be more discreet in their abduction and murder.
Beating the world's deadest horse but it's hilarious to me how american liberals in the year 2025 keep doing the whole "If [democrat] had won we'd be at brunch rn" thing at protests and when votescolding people online and shit because like. It would be hard to intentionally come up with a slogan that makes them come off as any more unsympathetic to anyone who is disillusioned with the democrat party. Like to anyone who's underprivileged enough to be fucked regardless of what party's in power it's literally impossible for it to come off as anything other than "I'm privileged enough to ignore your problems as long as there's a democrat in power and I wish I could go back to doing that right now"
I don't think it's possible to overstate the degree to which every mass liberatory movement in the US has failed because of racism. Like there really cannot be functional working class unity until we figure out how to systematically liquidate all forms of white chauvinism in progressive organizations
To the people saying that misogyny and transmisogyny should be added to this: I hear you, I get what you're coming from, but we need to recognize how racism specifically (and anti-blackness especially) have played a much more significant role then any other systemic prejudice in dividing the proletarian movement here. This is in part evident through the fact that racism played a significant role in diverting both the feminist and various queer liberation movements over the past century! Intraorganizational misogyny and transmisogyny in the US are problems which we need to solve, but racism (and, again, especially anti-blackness) is arguably the biggest barrier to proletarian solidarity in this country
I so desperately want to be able to convince Trump supporters with facts and logic and empathy, but it’s so important to remember that their ignorance is INTENTIONAL. my mom didn’t let us watch Sleeping Beauty growing up. I asked her why recently and she said, “it was evil.” when I pointed out other movies had similar themes and depictions of evil, and asked what the difference was, she couldn’t. I pressed one more time and she just said, “it felt evil to me. I didn’t like it”. same thing with dune 2: she said it was “dark”, and I was, “literally, like the movie’s lighting? Or the themes?” and she said “I don’t know” and didn’t want to talk about it more. many conservatives genuinely cannot tell the difference between “I don’t like it” and “this is evil” and they do not care to learn despite many chances
and while I’m at, this can also be true of left-leaning people!!!! please think about things. you are not necessarily smarter than conservatives and you are not immune to propaganda
This goes for the reality of Covid, unconscious bias, and white supremacy. One of the hardest things ive had to internalize and getting over my superiority complex over conservatives and thinking liberals are inherently safe. The cognitive dissonance can be just as strong in people who think of themselves as liberal or even leftist. It's truly broken my heart to see people who i thought held the same values as me, be as selfish and hard headed as conservatives when presented with facts that would make them change anything about how they live.
whenever people say they can't watch/play/read anything slightly upsetting or scary or challenging because it's... upsetting or scary or challenging all i can think of is this lol
musk is going to die in a Tesla explosion in 6 months after sticking his nose where it doesn't belong and we will never get a conclusive answer on whether it was a CIA car bomb or just a normal Tesla malfunction

Idgaf if you don't want to write essays for school. I don't care if you don't want to write corporate emails yourself. I don't care if you can't draw well, I don't care if you can't write well, I don't care if you just really really want to talk to your favorite fictional character but don't want to RP with a real person because you have social anxiety or whatever
If you're still regularly using generative ai, chatgpt or midjourney or character.ai or literally whatever the fuck, im personally blaming you when my utility prices start going up.
Why would utility prices go up because of ai?
(I am not defending the usage of generative AI/ChatGPT/Character.ai etc etc i am very much against it - I am just curious as to the correlation between using it and utility price surge please don't come at me this is a genuine question)
Happy to help.
ChatGPT uses so much energy that the US is literally reversing course on coal and gas usage to make up for it. In Santa Clara, for example, data centers used 60% of the ENTIRE CITY'S electricity.
ChatGPT uses 1-3 bottles of water for cooling for every query you put into it. This is FRESH WATER, which is evaporated and eventually mostly returns to the ocean, effectively removing a lot of it from our already dwindling fresh water supply on the planet. It also consumes 17 THOUSAND TIMES more electricity than the average American home.
The AI boom wastes so much electricity that we are very immediately risking US cities having to have rolling blackouts just to keep up with the energy demands, as early as NEXT YEAR
Gen AI's water usage is projected to hit 6.6 BILLION meters cubed by 2027
More AI use = more data centers = power drain on local cities = gas, electricity, and water utility prices rise because all of our resources are being funneled into a machine that makes garbage
