Her logic is that women deserve to terminate a pregnancy at any time for any reason, even if she doesn’t agree with it, because the moment we start adding exceptions is the moment it’s no longer truly a free choice. Why are you trying to make her say that sex selective abortion is okay? Her whole point was that when we start moralizing about whether or not an abortion is “okay” we’ve taken away a woman’s right to choose. Is your solution to the problem of millions of women being forced to abort female fetuses forcing millions of women to be pregnant with female fetuses when they don’t want to be? The way I see it, there is two options : 1) everything that a woman does for herself is OK, which then raises the point of other related issues, namely that women chooses to abort female foetuses, and that we just have to accept that, or that 2) social trends that can be oppressive need to be challenged.
A solution that was offered by indian feminist was to prohibit sex screening in maternal care to limit sex-selective abortions that end in feminicide. that is how you stop certain actions that are nefast to a class of people, in this case women.
She choosed to use the example of screening of homosexual people, knowing that it wouldn’t get much of a reaction because, let’s be honest people 1) do not care that much about homosexual lives (even on radblr, there is a homophobic radfems spouting nonsense avery week here) and 2) there is no screening for homosexual foetuses, so this is very much hypothetical. however, the hypocrisy of your argument is that is could be very much used to justify things like prostitution, porn, or other sexists actions, all under the pretext of “let people do things they want to do”.
It shows that you haven’t really studied the question of sex-selective abortions, whether in India or not, and that if you scratch a “radical” , a liberal will bleed. This isn’t about restricting abortions this is about how individual people, acting to what they think best for them, end up ruining things for everybody. The trans movement is based on misogyny and homophobia. Women and homosexuals acting in response to this bigotry is not hatred it is self preservation. You are not the “on the right side of history” simply because you perceive yourself to hold the popular opinion and moral high ground, which itself is not as widely held a belief as your echo chamber would have you think.
the fact that you can tell most trans people are straight because actual gay kids learn from an early age that most people aren’t attracted to us because they’re exclusively attracted to the opposite sex. like, gay teenagers with crushes on straight people have to figure out eventually that the crush is going to go nowhere. it’s never going to blossom into a full on relationship. it’s impossible.
straight people (especially men i feel) don’t really learn that. chances are that their crush will be reciprocated and if it isn’t then a majority of people are straight so it doesn’t really matter in the long run. this is how you get TIMS/TIFS who don’t understand same sex attraction.
